Food is exquisite and price is moderate. But the menu seemed to be different from what is posted online.
This was a very disappointing dining experience, a dramatic change from my last visit some months ago. The menu was unimaginative, the wine list extremely limited (the ONLY rose was out of stock!). The service was generally inattentive. It is hard to believe that a restaurant that had been a favorite could decline so rapidly. New management?
I can only hope that when the Bar Dupont reopens it does not suffer the same fate- it had been a jewel for lunch.
I had the steak and eggs and I was thoroughly impressed. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the steak cooked perfectly, and the fried green tomato was amazing - I did not care for the hash brown. I also had a juice - the Mercer - that I was I could get every morning. Super refreshing and energizing. The ambiance was great - I will be back the next time I am in DC.
Great service & good food in a very convenient location—always a good bet to dine here!
We ate outside and although our drink orders were taken quickly our server seemed to disappear and it was 30 mins before our dinner order was taken. It then took a long while for our food to appear. Food was good. But when it came time for our check once again it was a very long wait.
Having never dined here before, we had the bad fortune to arrive for lunch as some sort of construction project involving jackhammers began literally next to the windows of the restaurant. One might have expected management to figure out a way to beg, bribe or otherwise influence the timing of the horrific cacophony (like maybe delay your efforts until, say, 2 PM when most of the midday customers were gone??). Absent that possibility, some acknowledgment to those already trapped in their chairs would have been nice - a manager could have come around to explain, apologize, offer a cookie - something. The wait staff was overwhelmed, food was okay, but my guest and I could hardly hear each other speak. A most unfortunate and unpleasant experience.
great food...great ambience...
Excellent breakfast for both those on the run and those able to linger. Very friendly, attentive, and accommodating staff!
Went early and sat outside. Inside looks very slick but chilly. Outside much better. Good crowd of people. Food well prepared.
I have enjoy coming here for brunch, but my last experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, so much it motivated me to write this review. This would be the second time me and my partner have gotten the same waiter. He was very rude, specially in the way he talked to us, almost as if he was talking down to us. If this was not of putting enough. We notices there was an older gentlemen in suit going around all the tables and assuring everyone was well taken care of. I thought he would make his way to our table since are food was taking a while. He never did. He did how ever go to the table next to us to assure they had coffee and everything they needed sever times. We thought things where starting to turn around once our food got to our table. Sadly though it was not our food it was our neighbors food that by mistake arrived to our table even thought they arrived after us and also ordered after us. Just to be clear I enjoy this place and supper excited that you are remodeling and expanding your outside seating are. But if this is the type of service I am going to expect from your location I might stop going and definitely tell friends to avoid your place. I am a gay, Latino man and never have I felt so out of place like I did at my last experience dining at your establishment.
We were there at lunch and it was busy, but not overly so. Food was very good, but service was very, very slow.
This restaurant was very nice. The food was delicious and very well plated. The servers were great and helpful with suggestions. They even gave us free dessert for the date. The dessert was very rich. I would definitely recommend this place.
We were fortunate to get a last minute reservation on Mother's Day and enjoyed a lovely brunch. The menu choices were excellent versions of tried and true brunch items. I had the avocado toast (excellent); others at the table had an omelet and the French toast. Everyone pronounced their food quite good. We'll be visiting Cafe DuPont again the next time we're in D.C.
Great - Highly recommended!
I love this place, especially when you can sit outside on a nice evening. Relatively quiet and perfect for conversations over delicious food and wine! Inside can get too noisy when full, so I always prefer outside.
Service very poor at first. Annoying music on patio. Apart from that, excellent food and nice setting
Great location. Love the atmosphere. Food was very good. Have to say scallops, though good, we're very salty. Steak was superb. The branzino was good. I asked for it GF, so no sauce. That made it pretty bland, but that's my fault.
Excellent service and the mussels were very fresh and well prepared
Wine list. A little weak
Food was ok, nice warm bread Wait service was slow but informed by hostess only 3 waitstaff working; to their credit they did the best they could given the circumstances. Too bad management doesn't value service and staffing.
A delightful Sunday afternoon brunch after visiting the Renwick Gallery! Nice walk, friendly, fun and attentive staff, delicious food and drink ... we'll be back! Thanks
Food was OK at best. Really nothing interesting at all - either on the apps or the mains - and really not worth the prices as better food available nearby for less. Great people watching if sitting in the front of the bar on Dupont Circle, though!!
Used to be one of my favorites but all four in my party did not like their food. I had the risotto which has always been my favorite. I’m pretty sure it was pre-made and reheated and was very dry. Having dined here for many years I was disappointed.
Jackson was very pleasant but the kitchen was very slow
Nice brunch menu with outdoor seating which was beautiful today. Service was excellent.
First, and most important, Café Dupont is NOT open for lunch. The bar/seating area serves lunch, not the restaurant. To say that the service was lackadaisical would be high praise -- and it wasn't busy or crowded. We waited forever for someone to come over. We waited forever for someone to take our order. We waited forever for out lunch to be served. We waited forever for someone to ask if we wanted dessert. We waited forever for someone to take our dessert order, and we told the waitress that we needed to have it come quickly as we were running out of time. We ran out of time, cancelled our dessert orders, and left. The food is alright, the setting is comfortable and relaxed, but the service is WAAAAYYYYY too relaxed. So, only go if you have more than 2 hours to spare for lunch.
The food was under seasoned and bland. Service was amazing though.
A favorite of mine for a long time. Consistently good food and service. Quiet enough for a conversation. Great view from the main dining room. Great place for Sunday brunch and for afternoon drinks. Also has a great outdoor space. Hotel and restaurant staff are very nice and always helpful.
I searched the internet to find a place at/near Dupont Circle that was walking distance from our hotel near GWU and found the reviews for this restaurant ranked very high. We had a delicious meal (duck, and the short ribs) and though we were early customers, we were treated very graciously. The menu was varied and well-priced --hard to choose just one entrée!
We will definitely return!
Very nice. Loved the salmon, lentils entree. Good spacing between tables. Helpful staff
The cafe was closed so we had lunch in the bar, which has a limited menu. The salmon salad was very pleasant and tasty. Good service. I would definitely go back here because it's a great location, just a block from the metro, but it really isn't a restaurant, it's a bar. I was surprised they took a reservation on open table.
Met in the bar to start. The cocktails were excellent and it the view of Dupont Circle and the night life was fabulous. It was pretty noisy, but it was obviously a very popular bar, so this was to be expected. On the other hand, the restaurant was really quiet and intimate. The food was fresh and delicious.
My wife had a hard day and needed a smile, she found one at Café Dupont at the bottom of her martini.
The food and service was very good EXCEPT that they added nearly $100 in food and drink that we did not order. One cheese plate showed up on the bill as two and a glass of wine became a bottle. We were very disappointed overall because of the incorrect charges that did not seem to be genuine mistakes. I doubt we will go back.
Food was cold; we had made a reservation and were seated on time, however, we were told they were behind schedule. We asked for juice and the waiter informed us that there was apple and orange juice but I recalled from a previous visit that they had healthy juices and mentioned it, at which point the waiter went for a small menu with juice bar type combinations. The food was sub-par. I would not recommend this restaurant for breakfast.
Came to Cafe Dupont for Valentine's Day. We were told when we got there was only a prix fixe menu offered tonight, and the kitchen was not making any of the other items. The Prix Fixe menu for $55/person was pretty limited in options, but we decided why not...let's go for it. Unfortunately, the entrees were not very good (we both had the fish, which ended up being a very bland option...should have gone for the venison). The appetizers/dessert were hit or miss (my girlfriend's appetizer was outstanding, components of mine were dry/bland). "Is it possible to have a flavorless chocolate dessert" is not what you want to hear from your significant other on Valentine's Day.
To make things worse, we ended up with a $10 water bill at the end of the meal (the busser at the beginning, who told us there's only a Prix Fixe tonight, also offered sparkling water, we said no thanks still is fine for us...we were unaware that their still/tap were separate).
All that being said, the waitress was outstanding, and took the water charge off our bill. I mostly felt bad for our server (there were 20-25 tables set up for Valentine's Day, and there were maybe 6 couples total). One couple got up and left before having a meal, and one party of 4 ended up leaving as well (didn't want to pay $55/person for dinner).
To add insult to injury, as we walked back through the bar and lounge/booths on our way out of the restaurant (which were packed), we saw people eating the Burgers, Duck, Fries, and everything else offered on the normal menu. Turns out that wonderful menu Cafe Dupont is known for was being offered, but not in the main dining room. Woof.
according to the manager cafe dupont closes at 11am on weekdays. why they then accept lunch reservations is beyond me. we were sat in the bar area, but this is not conducive for a lunch meeting. service was terrible. food was so-so at best.
Both of our entrees were terrible. My superfood salad was watery and tasteless. His salmon with eggs was also tasteless. Our server was lovely, but we won’t be back.
Nice quiet spot (during the morning/early afternoon hours) and great view of DuPont. Service was great, food/beverages were tasty, no complaints, would go again!
Had a great brunch here. Good coffee, great pancakes!
