    I could have gotten a much better experience elsewhere for the same price. Was looking for new restaurant so I decided to try Cafe La Vie. Highlight was our server. She was excellent. Cornish Hen was the lowlight, closely followed by the mid-century decor and the low table/chair backs. Prices charged suggest a certain amount of luxury. Mid-century design does not say "luxury". This combined with the so-so food experience make me not want to go back.

    We waited for 30 minutes and never received anything but water. Many other patrons decided to leave also due to lack of service. Afterwards we decided to go to another restaurant.

    First off, it was a HORRENDOUS experience. We had a reservation at 7P. By 7:45 all we had were waters. We saw our waiter once. Didn’t even have a chance to order food. Will not be returning EVER. He tried to come back and offer us drinks for free to comp his horrible service. We didn’t take it.

    We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated. We received water about 5 minutes later and our order was taken. We then waited an hour and nothing…no water refill, no food, no acknowledgement of the wait. We left. We saw other couples leave as well. They were clearly understaffed but there was no communication of anything. And they kept seating people…will not return.

    The food was very good, Our server did a very good job, considering the number of tables she was handling. When we made our reservation I specifically asked for the ability to order from the menu and not take the pre-fix meal. When we were seated we were told that we had to take the set menu. The food was very good, but we only had 2 choices on each course. Since we don't like oysters, we only had one appetizer choice. Having had filet and shrimp the night before, we really only had one choice for our main entree, too, without copying our previous dinner. I don't think we will go back in the near future. The open seating to the hotel lobby isn't our preference when having a nice meal. the staff was very friendly.

    My boyfriend and I went to cafe la vie for a date night during restaurant week and ordered the Boursin tartine, Cornish hen, and eclaire. We also ordered a Caesar salad, martinis, and the steak sandwich. We were seated right next to the server station which was not ideal or romantic. We were given water upon being seated, but it was at least 10 min before we were greeted by our server. Once he greeted us though, the rest of our service from him was superb. The app, salad, and drinks were wonderful. However, the Cornish hen was so cold. There was not a single bit of warmth in the dish and it had very little flavor. The dessert was also bland and soggy. My boyfriend enjoyed the steak sandwich. While I would recommend cafe La vie for their apps and drinks, I would not recommend it off of their entrees or ambience.

    We visited for restaurant week. Food was mediocre but we had a nice time at this hotel restaurant in Clayton. Starter was basically toast with goat cheese, procuitto and tomato. Cornish hen was difficult to maneuver but squash puree was good. Homemade gelato was delicious. Bar area was lively and designed beautifully.

    The food was good and the waitstaff seems hardworking. We always like being waited on by Corinthian. But the food took SO long to arrive. We arrived about 625 for our 630 reservation and were seated right away but it took 30 minutes for our first course to come out. Then our second course came quickly but it took over 30 minutes after our second course was completed to get our 3rd course--which was just ice cream! Corinthian kept coming to update us that she was checking on it. She even brought me the check, I paid her and got the receipt back all before it arrived. I finally left without finishing it because I had to get my son to bed (it was 9 pm by then). The restaurant was not crowded so I don't know what the hold up was. Corinthian was very sweet and we like her a lot. But something needs to change because the food has come out SO slowly every time I eat here.

    We were at Cafe la Vie for the Thanksgiving buffet. The food was tasty and fresh, although it wasn’t very hot, in fact cool. The ambiance was pleasant and modern, the service for drinks was slow, although servers attempted to be attentive, unfortunately not at the appropriate times. I would go back to try a meal from the menu next time.

    Everything was bad! The food, service, the table was dirty, there were pills on the floor under my chair. Not sure how you mess up orange juice but they found a way to do that! Never again!

    Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the drink and food menu and made phenomenal recommendations that my date and I both enjoyed. The decor is modern and clean, and the space was very welcoming all around. I’ll definitely visit La Vie again.

    Randomly selected the restaurant looking for somewhere new to try in Clayton. Was not aware that the restaurant was inside the Le Meridian hotel rather than a stand-alone. May have explained why only four tables occupied at 6pm on a Friday night. Limited menu but dining room has a very modern decor with large bar, bright lighting, televisions and appropriate background music. Probably a great place for a business lunch, but not if you’re looking for a dimly lit date night location. Our server/bartender Niko was very pleasant. With the perceived lack of volume, we avoided the off-menu seafood “special” and stayed safe with a burger and chicken salad on croissant. Both were very tasty and to temp, but took a great deal of time to arrive from the kitchen. Parking validated at Front Desk. Would return only if staying as guest in the hotel.

    A friend and I decided to have lunch at La Vie to celebrate her birthday. The sandwich we each ordered, Smoked Salmon Club, was terrible and neither one of us ate it. The toasted bread that the salmon was on was overly toasted to the point of almost burnt. Insult to injury when the parking lot validation did not work and I was charged $9.00 to get off the lot. The only bright spot was the server. She was very nice and attentive.

    I’ve never wrote a negative review for anything but this dining experience was probably the worst I’ve ever had. Cafe La Vie had seemingly priming reviews online but that was far from the experience I had. First when my date and I arrived there was not hosts and only a bar tender insight despite having a reservation. Once seated we quickly realized the table we were seated at was being swarmed by nats. We them moved tables to only be swarmed by nats again. It was so distracting and frustrating it ruined the entire experience. Even if the nats were not there the quality of food was not worth the price. We ordered the ratatouille but when it came out it was a piece of Texas toast with chopped zucchini and squash on top of it. Not at all a traditional ratatouille.

    We usually love Cafe La Vie but it fell short on this visit. The restaurant was down a server or two so one very earnest server was covering the entire restaurant with backup from other staff but it was insufficient. A glass of wine took more than 15 minutes to be served, and that was after two additional requests. The lobster bisque came out with the dinner rather than in advance, so the dinner grew cold while the bisque was eaten. The French Fries with the main course were totally cold, but our server quickly replaced them. The woman cleaning the tables sprayed the cleaning spray on tables without first removing the salt and pepper shakers. This is such a nice restaurant with such good food when served warm and in the proper order that we were disappointed the service made our dining experience so much less than enchanting. Hope the management team can figure out another way to reallocate responsibilities so the service side of the business can accommodate for sudden staff shortages. There's a great opportunity to better train serving staff on the finer points of service to match the prospect for fine dining that Cafe La Vie could offer.

    We came based on the online menu. Everything we had planned to enjoy was no longer on the menu. Asked if the mushroom salad could be made for us as there were only two other tables with customers. Not possible. We were there to celebrate our 59 Anniversary. Nothing offered in response to our disappointment. We had attended a cooking school at which Chef Brennen had created a menu we had hoped for. Not the festive evening we had hoped for!

    First dinner at Cafe La Vie. Everything we ordered was very good, and the staff were very nice. On the other hand, the staff were poorly organized and they didn't seem to know very much about what they're serving. Different people served us at different times. Our soup & salad course came out at the same time as our entrees, and the person who delivered them didn't seem to know there was anything wrong with that. And despite their premature arrival, our entrees were lukewarm. This paints a picture of a restaurant that is not very well managed. Again, our meals were very good but it's too expensive of a place for so much to go wrong.

    Appetizer was fine, but didn’t enjoy chicken fricasse. Very little meat on bone in skin on thighs. Short rib had good flavor but obviously had large bones and little meat. Service was not prompt and hard to find

    Our overall experience was awesome. A pet peeve of mine is making a reservation, being on time, and still having to wait for our table. When we arrived at Cafe La Vie, our table was set aside, reserved, and ready. We were definitely impressed. The food was excellent, and our server was so attentive. Corinthian made sure our needs were met. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and our dietary needs. It was a great experience.

    Food was excellent, pleasant ambiance, comfortable. They didn’t have guests waiting and let us stay for hours! Easy parking validation. Only concern is the wine came to the table already opened, because the waiter said he didn’t really know how to open it. Turned out the first bottle wasn’t what we had ordered, so that was a waste for them. (A different server could have come with just the wine while the very nice new server is in training.) Overall, fantastic and we’ll ne back!

    My friend was craving French Onion Soup, so that is how we ended up here, but I think the universe knew the ambiance and service was exactly what we needed. It was a soothing atmosphere with carpet and cloth seats which helped to buffer any loud clanging noises. The service made us feel like we were the only people in the room and that our server was invested in making sure our needs (spoken and unspoken) were met. We will be back, as there are many things on the menu we are curious to explore.

    The sigh by the hostess stand sais seat yourself . Why were reservations even an option ? There were only two staff to serve a very crowded breakfast rush . The silverware didn't come with spoons , the items we ordered odd the menu resembled waffle house plating . Very disappointed based on hotel brand .
