Perfect place for a business lunch. Food is fine, the house red is really good, the service was superb. The decor is impressive and it's really quiet so you can have a conversation.
Third time here. Very accommodating to my special request ( a table that could easily host blind people (ie accessible and not too noisy). Great food and service.
Lovely atmosphere good good relaxed meal.
Lovely restaurant close to theatres. Slightly limited menu but adequate for lunch. Staff were very attentive but kept their distance. Would definitely return.
This was our second visit to Cafe Monico and it was most enjoyable. A continental atmosphere in Shaftesbury Avenue with very good reasonably priced food and friendly service. The fish and chips was the best ever!
Perfectly situated for the Sondheim Theatre. We had a pre theatre lunch here which was very good.
The menu is small but varied and everything is done very well. Lovely food, at a reasonable rate, served with efficiency and a smile. And the setting itself is wonderful, and right in the heart of theatreland. We had a window table and indulged in a little people watching on Shaftsbury Avenue, but from the first floor you could equally look over the balcony to ground floor diners. I really couldn't fault the whole experience.
We came an hour before our reservation to have a drink. The bar service and drinks were very good, as was the subsequent table service. My criticism is that the food was less impressive. Portion sizes were small - so small that we both had to buy more food at the theatre we went onto. If you don’t feel able to produce a decent meal for the set-menu price then either scrap the pre-theatre menu or increase the price so that you can deliver on quality and quantity.
Excellent service, food & drink. Great ambience. So close to theatres
Good food in fantastic setting. Wonderful service 😁
I was made to feel immediately welcome by the excellent usherette who showed me to my table with a smile. I was seated on the balcony where I had a fabulous view of the bartenders below shaking exciting cocktails at breakneck speed. I was also able to watch the chefs at work preparing the food.
I was asked if I was going to the theatre (which I was) and the service speed was increased accordingly.
Starter of green olive tapinade was superb and the portion rather generous. Main course of duck and lentils was flavoursome and hearty. House red wine was excellent.
The decor is pre-war French vintage with Morris-esque wallpaper, unpretentious chandeliers, cosy lighting and lots of warming wooden tones.
This restaurant is very versatile. It would impress a date; it would be intimate enough for a couple; it would suit friends catching up. Not too many tourists; fellow diners seemed like well-heeled professionals.
Considering the location (on Shaftesbury Avenue, the main drag in Soho) the bill was not eye-watering and represents good value for money.
I wish that I had stayed at the restaurant for brandy and coffee rather than going to the theatre!
A perfect pre-theatre dinner in a large two storey bistro akin to a Cafe Rouge. Good food and service.
Food good value. Waitress friendly and helpful. Had to wait a long time for dessert and asked 3 times when it was coming. Waitress very apologetic
Good location, friendly staff (although not enough of them so it impacted the service). Food disappointing.
This was our 4th visit to Cafe Monico in 3 months so it has become a regular 'go to ' pre-theatre spot for us. As usual the food was very good and we had an enjoyable early evening dinner. The slight disappointment was that having asked for a specific table location, we were sat elsewhere despite the requested location becoming available a few minutes after being seated. Just as we were about to ask to move, someone else just took it (without asking!) We mentioned it to our waitress but she was unable to help. A small negative - but these things are important (especially to regulars).
Music very loud, Seabass lovely served on bed of spinach- but too much spinach. Staff fr
Always come here if we are going to the theatres nearby. Lovely atmosphere and prompt service, plus the pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money.
Food and value poor
Didn’t collect plates when finished
Lovely atmosphere which we loved. The linguine was great but the beef bourgignon was watery and not as flavoursome as previously. Great and attentive service though!
More vegan choices please. Held at bar, despite table being ready .
Really poor service with inattentive staff. Food was of small portions also and drinks were a very long wait! Just wanted to get out of here and cancelled our drinks order and left
Really enjoyed this restaurant. The food and service was impeccable and its location perfect for our theatre visit.
Amazing restaurant and great for the theatre's
Don’t expect the food to be outstanding, but definitely worth a stop pre or post visit to the theatre for a drink & bite.
The atmosphere is lovely but the food was terrible.
Very good atmosphere, good food, quick service. Overall a very good experience.
My and my partner went here for a valentine's dinner last night - I'd heard good things about it and we like french bistro food. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience. We ordered drinks and got them fairly quickly. But half an hour in and we still hadn't had our order taken for food. It was difficult to get a waiter or waitress to pay any attention to us. Eventually after about 40 minutes we found someone to bother to come to our table but we were not very happy by then and could tell we weren't going to get good service or a good night. We promptly left. The only salvation for Cafe Monico was that they gave us the drinks for free. We would never go back.
Food was lovely but such tiny portions for the price (even through the price was pretty fair!)
Very good for a pre theatre dinner. Good service, nice food
Excellent location for pre Theatre meals. Good value as there is fixed price menu too. Beef bourginion very nice but rather too much for me so maybe the fixed price menu would’ve been better as I assume smaller portions for price. Would eat there again was lovely x
Nice venue but service wasn’t great and pudding came out cold.
Having made them aware that it was a pre-theatre booking and that we would need to vacate the table by 7:15 at the latest, it was disappointing how slow the service was. We arrived at our booked time of 6pm, it took about 10 minutes before we were seated and barely had enough time to eat a starter and main course before we had to leave. The food itself was good but I would stay clear of this one if you are on a time pressure, despite it's location being ideal for several theatres.
Lovely staff and nice setting but service slow, food ok but not great. Seems kitchen overwhelmed. Waiting staff great but a bit inattentive. Drinks were good. For the location, very reasonable but I wasnt wowed.
The food was lovely and so was the service, but it was extremely noisy in the restaurant and very difficult to have a conversation with your partner. The lighting was too lower for me as I prefer to see my food clearly. In addition, I hate jazz so did not like the background music. I was disappointed after looking forward to the evening.
Parsnip truffle oil soup was the biggest let down. V oily.
Ravioli was also very buttery.
The cocktails were fantastic and the service excellent. Great decor just a shame about the standard of the food.
I would go back but only for the cocktails.
Starter was ok burratta with salad. Main of steak and fries was awful. Asked for medium to rare. First pass was lightly cooked on the outside, with most of the steak cold and raw. Sent it back. Came back much better cooked, pink and rare in the middle, but was so tough impossible to cut, even with a serrated steak knife. I left it. Apple crumble was all overly sweetened apples, very little crumble, left most of that. Waiter was very attentive & obviously embarrassed by the food. He did his best, so he got a decent cash tip. Tourist trap, they aren't concerned about repeat customers, so don't seem to care about the food.
Very nice restaurant, ideal for a meal before going to the theatre.friendly helpful staff. Birthday great was a free pudding
Amazing atmosphere! Will be back again to try something more adventurous!
A beautiful restaurant. We were only having a pre-theatre snack but I look forward to coming for a "proper night out"
