I think there was only one waitress in the whole restaurant. Took a really long time to order anything. Couldn’t even ask for side of sour cream because waitress didn’t come over. We were there over 2 hours for 2 apps and food.
Brunch was delicious and servers were friendly. Great place for drinks!
The food was delicious. Good sized portions. The only complaint was both mine and my wife’s dishes could’ve been hotter. They weren’t cold but felt like they sat for a few minutes too long.
Beyond that, everything about the experience was great including the bar manager who talked about tequila with us and helped educate us in time for a national Margarita day.
Our server was lovely and very efficient. We were a party of 4 and we had an order of guacamole which we enjoyed it so much that we had to order another. The cauliflower tacos were superb and the margaritas were tangy and dry not sweet and syrupy. Overall we had a fabulous time and wonderful experience.
Amazing meal and amazing margs. One of, if not thee, best Mexican food spot in the city.
SO GOOD! Service was great and so were the margaritas! The brisket topped nachos are a must
Delicious food and margaritas! Also, very friendly staff.
The Nachos (vegetarian) were loaded and delicious. Their main course as well as the toasts were tasty and filling. The drinks were well made too.
My wife and I are so happy this restaurant has survived COVID. The food here is always amazing, the servers are always so sweet and knowledgeable about the menu, they are careful with COVID precautions, and they always make our special occasions just a little more special. You must try the bestia margarita with passion fruit flavor...it’s our new favorite!
Absolutely love the tacos here. Reminds me a lot of El Vez, honestly. The yucca fries and the plantains are excellent! Will definitely be back.
Food was amazing! Drinks were really great too and I loved the environment.
Great food and service!!! Perfect local neighborhood spot
Friendly service, large menu, and delicious margaritas! We were satisfied with drinks, apps, and main course.
Sorry to see the change in ownership (I think, because of the name change and many changes to the menu) but food was excellent. The Carnitas bowl was incredible!
Hi Michael, Thank you for your review and we are delighted you enjoyed your Carnitas Bowl! We actually are under the same ownership as the past nine years and we have the same great team, same menu (with some seasonal changes), and the same delicious Carnitas recipe. The only thing that changed is the name to be unified with our sister restaurant in the suburbs. Thank you for supporting us and we look forward to seeing you many more times in 2021!
The guacamole was one of the best I’ve tasted!! Service was excellent, and food amazingly delicious!
Awesome outside with the heaters
Thank you for the feedback!
Under difficult circumstances our server was outstanding.
We sat out side in the street for Sunday brunch. Temp was around 60 degrees .
She was pleasant and checked on us a few times. We had no complaints.
Huevos Rancheros were delicious.
Thank you for joining us Thomas! We hope to see you again soon for brunch. Happy New Year!
Great food, it was a good time. The menu was pretty plain, but I would go here again for the carne asada.
Good Drinks & Wonderful service. The Nachos are amazing!!!
Great food and service, we will definitely be coming back
The food was great quality and very flavorful, our server recommended us the tropical margarita and chicken enchiladas and they were amazing! Will be back again
Everything was spectacular as usual! Food/drinks are delish! My food came out pretty cold, I never send anything back (used to work as a server and I know what it’s like) but I asked them to warm my tacos. Server handled it flawlessly and apologized. Everything was great! Favorite carnitas in the city!
Our server was great and the food and cocktails were delicious. Highly recommend the baja fish tacos and the mezcal margarita!
The food and ambiance were all okay but my friends and I ended up being kicked out mid meal.
We went early, around 4-4:30. It was pretty quiet as there was just one other party sitting with us. It said outdoor dining in the reservation which i thought meant in front of the building but they actually have a fake gazebo like tent INSIDE the restaurant. Tables were not well spaced, if it had been crowded it would definitely be note for caution.
We got nachos for the starter as well as 2 drinks each. The tropical margarita was so sweet and so good! First marg I’ve seen to have honeydew in it so it def piqued my interest. I later ordered sangria but it was significantly watered down. We ordered blackened mahi tacos and carnitas tacos which were both cooked well, I just wish they had more sauce and toppings because the fish was slightly drier.
Here comes the service issue.
Our reservation was for 4 PM and apparently the restaurant has a 1.5 hour seating limit? Very strange considering most dinner outings I’ve been to will last 2 hours at minimum? Around the hour mark someone approached us and informed that we had 20 minutes left. Whatever, we figured if we were eating they weren’t actually going to kick paying customers out. We decided to order tacos. We were very wrong. Apparently they booked the table for 3 older white women and when these women arrived the servers brought us the check and to go boxes and essentially stood over us making that fake service “I’m so sorry I have to do this” smile saying they needed the table and we were going to have to leave.
I recognize restaurant policy but this was unnecessary and embarrassing to my friends and myself. Although I would have understood had we been loitering for an excessive amont of time, I think if you do not have the capability to allow patrons to sit and complete their meal comfortably maybe you shouldn’t double book!
Food isn’t worth it overall! Go somewhere else
Loved the Cauliflower tacos and spicy Margarita!! Lots of options for non-meat eaters.
So glad you enjoyed our newest vegetarian addition! See you soon!
The food and service is outstanding!!!! Seated in the back patio which i would recommend
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Philly. The black bass may be the best dish in all of Philly. The margaritas are always perfect. I can’t recommend this place enough!!!We go here every chance we get.
This was my first dining experience since March. We sat in the outdoor court yard and the tables were very socially distant. I was very happy to see the high level of care they took to be clean and the use of protective gear (including face shield and gloves). The food was outstandingly delicious and our portions were plentiful. Our waiter was very helpful and personable and in-spite of all the protective gear it was easy to hear and understand him. I look forward to returning soon!
I have always loved La Calaca, but returning after covid was a wonderful experience. They are clearly concerned about both staff and guest safety here. We waited outside for our table to be ready and they took our temperature upon entry (to get to the back outdoor patio). The service was wonderful and attentive, the food came out fast and hot, and a few managers stopped by to check on us. I am grateful that there are places like La Calaca where we can (safely) forget the state of the world for a little while. Thank you for your wonderful food & service!
I’d never been here so when they asked if we wanted to sit outside I thought they only had the street side seating. Come to find out they’ve got a great outdoor alley out back. Ask for those seats. We gave the ginormous guacamole app an A, but the enchiladas and burrito a B-. All in all it’s a great place for a group of 4 to hang out but I prob wouldn’t bring a date to impress there.
Amazing food my only callout is the restaurant never turns the heat in and it’s freezing .
We always have a great meal and drinks at La Calaca!
As a resident of Fairmount, La Calaca Feliz is a top place to go. When you walk in you're welcomed by a bar, then are taken to the back where there is indoor seating and outdoor seating in the back garden. As for COVID guidelines they are doing great - tables are far away and you feel safe. First, the Tropical Margarita is amazing! Not too sweet and a good amount of added flavor from the different fruits. The Chicken Nachos were cheesy and had a lot of extras on it (peppers, onions, beans, sour cream) that made it taste more gourmet than usual. For entree had the Shrimp Tacos with corn slaw that was creamy and added just the right about of taste for the grilled shrimp. Go & try this place out for sure!
I loved this place!!! As someone who is from Phoenix Arizona the Mexican food was was bomb. ❤️
My first time dining at this restaurant. Our server, Lucas was not only very handsome, he was very professional, knowledgeable and good at his job. He recommended the Brussel sprout tacos and they were delicious! He also recommended the Tropical Margarita and I loved it! My friend loved the fish tacos so much, she had to compliment the chefs in the kitchen! The restaurant atmosphere was open, warm and inviting. We ate on the back patio and it was lovely. Overall, I would give my first visit 5 stars. I definitely will be back.
Marvin was the best!! He was a great waiter and the food and drinks were delicious.
Everything was excellent!
The drinks and the food was delicious we had the guacamole , tilapia tacos and shrimp tacos ..
Loved the experience.
