After several times dining here I can only confirm that this place is one of the best options in the Van Ness and surroundings area. Parking is a blessing and the food is great and reasonably priced. The ambiance outside, on the patio, is quite different to the more intimate inside, and thus you have a choice.
We were a party of 6 on Sunday. Everyone had similiar comements regarding the food. The food was fair to average. The food was bland and uninteresting. Service was slow and needed polish. We were all left with the impression of an establishment that has started a decline, perhaps a rapid decline if Chef Geoff does not correct ASAP.
Good comfort food. Friendly. Outside tables if you can stand the DC humidity. A neighborhood favorite.
The team are Chef Geoff's is consistently excellent!! From fare to service with a smile, we consider this our 'kitchen' and 'back patio' - as much family as it is friends. And special requests are never a bother!
The service was excellent. The staff is friendly and engaged. The food was presented beautifully and tasted great.
I liked the food very much, as always. But wait staff kept interrupting us. They asked how things were before any of us had lifted a fork. Then the server grabbed a plate as soon as someone had finished even though three others were still eating; then kept trying to do it. PLEASE ask servers to stop doing that. It is annoying and rude. It gives the impression that they want us to get out. Restaurant was not at all full so pressure was unnecessary.
Terrifically upbeat staff accompanied by creative food offerings is just a great combination for what for us is basically a local neighborhood restaurant. Probably the restaurant we go to most often in a year and it never disappoints.
Restaurant pretty empty so under circumstances, service slow. That said, server v nice
We were at American University to visit our nephew. Very convenient, within walking distance, was perfect for what we needed. Food was good for some courses and just so-so for others. The Sunset menu was a good value. Caesar salad needs work.
Delicious food and a lovely setting -- inside but especially outside if it's not too hot.
As always, everything about our recent lunch at Chef Geoff's was outstanding. They maintain the highest quality for meals and food variety, and the service always more than outstanding!
The staff was helpful in reducing the very loud volume on the tvs covering a major sports event. One of our party was particularly interested in it, and we sat so he had a good view, but it was so extremely loud when we first arrived that I complained. With the volume lowered, we could hear one another! I've had lunch and dinner at this place many times, but never experienced that volume of noise! Unfortunately, it was too hot and humid to sit outside as a solution to the noise problem.
We had friends visiting in town and needed a brunch place nearby, and this worked well.
I had not tried a brunch at Chef Geoff's but I had been to their lunch and dinner service many times. The brunch menu offered limited choices but the choices were broad enough to meet our tastes. The ala carte menu supplemented the choices.
I had the breakfast burrito, which was well prepared. While the burrito advertised chorizo, it wasn't present in mine but rather it had mildly spicy sausage. The outside dining experience was pleasant for a Sunday brunch.
We were happy to have a place to go to watch the World Cup soccer game
Like to sit outside Food always good Staff really nice
Always great. Brought a friend from Louisiana - loved it! Service and food is always right.
As always, it was great casual dining with gourmet selections.
Chef Geoff's is a neighborhood treasure...great for a perfect burger, outside on the patio. The menu is great for anything you might fancy.
Mixed results. There were 4 at our table; we all tasted all the dishes and had mixed feelings about the execution of the food. The service was great and prices reasonable.
Too cold! Food good
Very pleasant atmosphere and staff and delicious food made it very rewarding to return to Chef Geoff's
Should improve their menu selection...
Best thing is wine by the bottle is 50% off on Wednesday.
Always a great burger spot! Brought our grandson out to CGs for his DC burger tour.
I love my neighborhood restaurant, Chef Geoff's. At lunch, however, I asked for my salad without cheese, and it was brought with cheese. My companion's lunch was hot and served to her, so she went ahead and ate while I waited. You can get this right the first time. Also, our table, located upper tier across from bar near hostess, the wall was dirty with splashed coffee. Not appealing at all! Please get it right, we like you.
We went for Father's Day brunch. Food was very good. Service was a bit subpar.
The five of us totally enjoyed our evening at the Chef Geoff's. We ate outside on a lovely evening, which added to the experience. I don't know about the noise level inside--one of my pet peeves--but outside we could hear each other and really enjoy being together. We had a variety of food and drink. Each person was satisfied. No complaints at all. We'll be back!
We were there about 25 minutes before drinks were delivered. Appetizers and entrees were delivered at the same time and were still missing 2 appetizers.
The drinks and appetizer were great. Entrees and dessert pretty lackluster.
Can't go wrong dining at Chef Geoff's. Son, daughter and I celebrated Fathers Day early on Friday night. Service was friendly and timely, all three entrees were delivered at the same time and at the correct temperature. Drinks were comparatively priced.
We sat outside and it was lovely. The service was excellent, and our entree salads were delicious.
Have been a former "regular" at New Mexico Ave. site but was disappointed this time around. Reservation was handled very well; order was mixed up and one person did not receive his order. Rectified by wait staff and manager but a set back to timing. Rolls had to be ordered twice. Waldorf salad (special of the day) was ordered by both my wife and I. Found the lettuce soft and almost mushy perhaps by to much dressing. Diced chicken bits were hard to find. Suggest using a breast of chicken like other salads at the table. Service person was very attentive throughout the luncheon and deserts were excellent. Compensation was made for the order mix-up was made on the bill.
Chef Geoff's never disappoints. The staff is well trained and the food is always tasty. Noise can be a problem in the evening, but not at lunch.
We are so happy we came to Chef Geoff's for our daughter's graduation dinner celebration with our family from out of town Saturday nite. We had a table of 12 and they were able to tend to us without any problems. The food was great, the service was attentive and everyone had a great time.
Good food but very understaffed on Saturday night, June 9 - and the restaurant was not particularly crowded.
Our overworked waiter forgot our appetizer order. It took repeated efforts to get our water glasses refilled. My friend’s salad was not served with the dressing on the side as she requested. The restaurant was out gazapacho (soup special) and we had a 7 pm reservation. The ladies room was messy and unclean.
Ok food, nice patio but we (longtime dc residents) were very unimpressed by the poor service.
Chef Geoff's is always a great place - their weekend brunches offer lots of choice and the outside patio is lovely.
Food was fine but service was poor. Our drinks were not delivered until 5 minutes after our entrees and only after we complained to a few people. The restaurant apologized for the screw up and didn’t charge for the drinks.
Chef Geoff's on New Mexico Avenue, NW in Wesley Heights has been a popular place from the beginning, and from the looks of it, it still is the go-to place for any number of occasions! The staff is very hospitable, and our waiter, Marcus, was particularly accommodating and wonderful the entire time my friend and I were there; the food was good; and the only "suggestion" I have for management is that when a large group of very "energetic" diners arrives, it would be considerate to seat them in the back of the dining room where they would not disturb others.
5-star professional service. Excellent Caesar salad with sirloin. Yummy cocktails. Nice ambiance. Nice dessert menu.
My cousin and I made reservations for a late dinner at Chef Geoff's. Dinner, dessert and the staff were all amazing. It was worth the trip from NYC just to try this restaurant. We had sautéed Brussels sprouts with bacon and honey (made special for me because of my shellfish allergy), pizzas and donuts (with 3 dipping sauces) and dark chocolate ganache cake.
Excellent in all respects. We always come when in DC
