Connubio da Fabio
Our cuisine is a Mediterranean assembly of products and flavours from both Italy and Spain. Many of the dishes are cooked in our very special natural charcoal oven obtaining a typical balanced smoky aroma with perfect texture and flavours. It is an amazing way of cooking meat, fish and vegetables with out having to use extra oil or butter, incredibly healthy and tasty.
Our wine list is a selection of products made from indigenous and peculiar kind of grapes. We like biologic, biodynamic and organic products; we’re happy to propose fantastic wine selections (also by the glass).
We are looking forward to having the pleasure of welcoming you at our place, with the promise of using all our experience to make a memorable moment.
I struggle to think of a better king prawn tagliolini in London. This was top class Italian food, way better than the vast bulk of High street italian restaurants
Lovely food and great service in a local north London setting. Great wine pairings, based on previous experience, but was non-alcoholic on this occasion, leading to me wishing for some of these new non-alcoholic wines or spirits like Seedlip that don’t quite seem to have appeared everywhere yet. The fresh pappardelle with boar ragu was fabulous.
A fabulous meal from start to finish.
Fabio's menu is well curated. Every dish tastes great. Fabio chooses all the wines and is a great sommelier. Trust his choices ...! Oh, and of that wasn't enough, he is a pastry chef and makes all the desserts. Best Tiramisu I've tasted other than my wife's!!
This was our first visit and Fabio was the perfect host and everything was just perfect so highly recommend this restaurant. We will be back for sure.
Most of the restaurants and cafes in Muswell Hill are chains, so Connubio da Fabio stands out. The menu is primarily Italian, but there are a few Spanish dishes as well — a marriage which works well.
The menu is small, which means everything is done to perfection, and there are recommended wine pairings that really work, and are a great incentive to try something new.
The menu is not quite the same as that shown on Open Table, but it gives a good sense of what is on offer. For starters we chose antipasto — an interesting selection of cured meats on a bed of rocket and raviolini stuffed with Italian sausage and marscapone, while for mains we chose liver and the raviolini again.
The antipasto was a generous serve and included a good variety of salamis, bresaola and aged ham. The raviolini, which was a unexpected, and the sauce had just the right balance of tomato acidity and creamy richness. The liver was cooked exactly as ordered and a definite hit.
We didn't have room for puddings, but a small dish of clearly homemade sweet treats arrived with the bill, which provided a small and perfectly formed shot of sugar to cap off a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Service is excellent, and the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. Another big plus is that the acoustics and blues/jazz background music mean you can enjoy a quiet conversation without having to shout.
It's not the cheapest restaurant on the Hill, but it's definitely one of the best — but if you're going at the weekend, be sure to book, it gets v busy.
Connubio means union in Italian and Fabio is the owner who has been there for all our visits. I think it sums up this lovely restaurant perfectly. Italian and Spanish food is brought together and also the menu has wine pairing suggestions. Fabio really knows his wines and has some lovely short stories about some of them. There’s a wide price range and I really get the sense he cares more about you enjoying it than trying to up sell as they do in chains!
The food is good but not complex (deliberately so I think). The cheese board is amazing...especially when they have a pecorino with truffle in...but it changes depending on what the supplier provides so don’t expect this - what I am now calling crack cheese - all of the time. I really love that it’s not pretentious or overly chefy. Although as I’d like to visit often being local, some specials might be nice as I get the sense the menu doesn’t change often.
The service is very friendly and has personality. If you’re nice then I think they go the extra mile to treat you well and engage with you. If you’re rude then I can imagine them not being that bothered if you come back as they have enough regular customers that enjoy it for what it is.
Together, the food, service, slightly 1980s style decor all makes a delicious atmosphere. If you’re local then please keep supporting this independent business at the heart of Muswell Hill.
Great quality Italian food and friendly staff!
The most authentic Italian food I’ve managed to find in London. Delicious food fairly priced and wonderful wine paired with the food. Service was great, we felt very well cared for.
this restaurant has a friendly atmosphere. and good food. the portions for starters and deserts were generous and the food flavoursome.
The ambience was very good and the restaurant, as others have pointed out, had decent acoustics so we were able to talk properly without shouting, one thing that usually puts us off eating out these days. The food was acceptable, but, considering the price of the main courses, it would have been of little effort or cost on their part, to have provided some salad or seasonal vegetables. Unfortunately, we hadn't noticed there weren't any included and were not prompted by the waiter to order any. The main courses were rather dull in consequence. Accompanying wines for each dish is unusual to find these days in the U.K. but it certainly complemented the meal overall.
Food was hugely overpriced, service and ambience good. Staff was very polite and professional. Price was not matching quality (fish reheated/microwaved) and portion very small
The second time I have visited this restaurant
although not cheap one cannot fault the food and service
We will certainly return
Great Italian food cooked with care. I took my wife out for our anniversary. We used to go to family run Italian restaurant for the last 20 years. Unfortunately they have closed down. It was good Italian family cooking done with care and passion. I have been looking for that and may have found in at Connubio. The food was fantastic and the service was ok. It is a little pricy but we are talking proper home made food. The restaurant ambience is not modern and chic but rather slightly old school. Just like my old Italian restaurant. The emphasis is on the food. Everything was home made including the pasta. I will be returning and hopefully it will become our regular.
Really lovely place. Great service, excellent food and a real traditional family run restaurant feel
Very happy with visit to this restaurant. Food was delicious!
We had a lovely family meal here while staying in the area for an event nearby at Alexandra Palace. The food was so fresh, tasty, and I loved the recommendations for the wine to complement the food.
We'll be back when in the area again!
Fantastic all round, food perfect, service perfect atmosphere perfect.
Great neighbourhood place. Lovely food great wine, and a great owner
The perfect Italian restaurant. Warm welcome and great service, delicious food and reasonable prices with a good atmosphere and you could talk - not shout! Will definitely come back.
The best Italian restaurant in the area. Great food and very friendly service. Will be back
Very tasty food and friendly staff. Wide range of food on the menu
After reading all the positive reviews, we had hoped for a warm welcome from Fabio and the team. However, this seemed like a totally different place to what had been written in previous reviews from others..
We had to prompt the staff to take our drinks order and food orders after waiting for an extended amount of time. No mention of the specials for the day. There was no attempt at offering another bottle of wine after the first one was poured out between 6 at the start of the meal. We would of course have ordered another one or two if they had asked, but after having to prompt the staff to place our orders beforehand and their lack of attention, we couldn’t be bothered.
The food was placed on the table in silence. There was no attempt at any friendly chat or interaction. It was really weird!!
The food was itself was good, but not outstanding. It was fairly priced which was a merit.
It’s a real shame we didn’t have the experience that others have mentioned as we love to support the local businesses. Honestly the experience was just a bit strange, no one that worked there seemed to be enjoying themselves and it just felt really awkward.
I hope this was just an “off day” and we were just unlucky, but I don’t know if we will go here again.
We recently had a lovely meal at Connubio da Fabio, it was perfect for catching up with a friend, good food and good wine. There are wines matched to food and I plan to return again soon to try out some more wine!
Great food and good service. Will definitely be back.
A wonderful restaurant. Great service, delicious food paired with amazing wines. I would thoroughly recommend.
Loved it! Great food, cool place and host Fabio is a lovely guy who is clearly passionate about this venture.
The food was good, the wine was great, but other than Fabio himself who was friendly and welcoming, the service from the other two waiters was not as good as hoped. Overall very good and we would definitely come back again.
A great neighbourhood restaurant. Excellent wine list, beautiful cheeses and a well cared for menu. Still getting in to their stride a bit but a great night out. Live music on the last Sunday of each month is a lovely addition. Highly recommend!
Everything about the place is excellent but it is the quality of the food (the ingredients, the cooking and the presentation) that puts it top of the league.
It's always good to patronise a local restaurant run by the owner, with his passion and personal touch everywhere. The food is excellent and we met Fabio, who was charming and enthusiastic.
My only comment is that the lighting could be a little lower in the evening to give it more atmosphere, and the prices for some of the dishes were high for a brasserie - or you need to provide tablecloths and make it a restaurant. But overall it was a lovely experience.
Lovely food, fast and friendly service, will definitely go back and try breakfast !
Great Italian food paired with delicious wines, excellent service, good price. You can tell everything is done with love. Great for couples and small groups. There are food-wine pairing suggestions and even a tapas-wine pairing tasting menu.
The food and service was amazing. Will definitely go back.
Delicious food and very welcoming staff! Will definitely come again.
Very welcoming and helpful staff, delicious food. Tapas, pasta and dessert all very enjoyable. Would definitely go back again!
Such amazing food and staff which work there, lovely place to come for dinner. Will be back soon for sure
Food was beautiful. Spanish and Italian options. We shared starters, mains and deserts. All the food was homemade and authentically prepared with quality ingredients. The restaurant is cosy with soft lighting, rustic feel and gentle music. Service was attentive, but not overbearing. We had a really enjoyable evening. We had the pleasure of meeting Fabio, the owner. He's passionate about his restaurant, the food, the atmosphere. The whole thing is his creation and you can't help but feel touched by the effort and pride he clearly pours into his work. We were particularly impressed with Fabio's incredibly knowledgable of his handpicked wine list and that he makes all the deserts himself (he trained as a pastry chef). A very special little restaurant.
Had a lovely dinner here this week with girlfriends. Feel important to write a review as the food was great (both the Spanish tapas starters and the Italian mains) and service too, but the restaurant was very quiet. It doesn't deserve to be, this is an asset to the neighbourhood. Plus the owner/sommelier looks just like that chap who runs the First Dates place...
Visited on a quiet Sunday eve, and Fabio was a friendly and welcoming host. Food, while OK, didn't quite measure up to the standards implied by previous reviews elsewhere (but portions were large). However, pastry/desserts were exceptionally good. Service was an issue. At any one time, only a max of three tables was occupied, but we struggled to gain attention. I wish them well, but improvements are needed.
This restaurant requires a Gordon Ramsey to come in and show the chef how to cook. The dessert was seriously amateurish.
The restaurant lacks atmosphere. I wouldn’t go there again. Sorry 😐
