Fabulous drinks and food and service as always!
I don't think I've ever had a negative experience at David's. We have gone numerous times there for dinner with friends or just as a couple and always had outstanding service and food.
Great service in the Bar area. Food was good and drinks were well prepared.
Sat at the window overlooking monument square. Windows were incredibly dirty with food splatter covering the inside. Not very appetizing.
Still would recommend this spot even though a bit overpriced.
Ian was great!
The food and service was amazing. They went above and beyond to make our dinner special.
Great restaurant, great food, great service. Will definitely go there again.
Everyone was wonderful from greeting us at the door, to wishing us a great night at the end. Our server was so attentive and personable. Food, drink and dessert were a beautiful taste for the senses. We will visit again when in Portland. It will be our first choice! Thank you!
What a great dining experience! They were so thoughtful to my friend and she thoroughly enjoyed her birthday, as a result!!
Many thanks to the whole team.
Ordered one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. Seriously. I got a box for leftovers, and carried it to three bars before finishing it at home. Great service too. Highly recommend this place!
Had a great time! We sat at the counter by the kitchen and it was tight to get in and out but great spot to watch food prep and great server. We loved all the food and drinks - mussels, scallop skewers, salmon, and Oreo cheesecake. Would recommend!
We had been to David’s 388, and wanted to take friends to the original. Good food and service, and certainly quiet enough to enjoy conversation.
Food, service and atmosphere are five stars all the way around!
Our waiter was fantastic and thanks to him we all very much enjoyed our meals which were truly delicious. Great beers, too!
Portland was crazy busy on Nov 2 but they fit us in. Great food, wonderful service and fun ambiance. The brussel sprout appetizer was awesome, along with the spicy shrimp and very interesting flavors of the crab cake. Caesar salad was nice but very peppery. Mushroom ravioli were outstanding. Friendly but not pushy waiter to dealt well with our tapas style requests and brought all the snacks out in a great order. Those garlic knots are sinful! Thanks for a lovely birthday dinner.
Great Food! Really great service(Thanks Alicia)!
David is running a great place!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Kim our server was amazing.
A group of 7 friends traveling out of town for a weds
Food was very good and the service was as well
Every one enjoyed it
Great choice in Portland
Lunch at David's Restaurant in Portland can’t be beat.
They offer a wonderful buffet along with a full menu.
The people are very friendly and service is great.
Great food, service, atmosphere and prices. Check it out for yourself.
Because it is a popular spot I do recommend making a reservation.
Great place. food was delicious.bread is awesome. recommend highly
It is a must stop when we are in the Portland area.
Anniversary dinner. It was perfect. Loved our waiter. No complaints
Great restaurant, open kitchen, nice decor and good menu. Some of the best mussels I’ve had. Very good pot stickers. I really enjoyed the shrimp and scallops skewer with risotto. I don’t love that every dish has an extra sauce or something, but that’s just me. I like things simple. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal. One of the best things was the kids menu. It was full of REAL food which is hard to find. My daughter had steak, mashed potatoes and a large bowl of really nice fruit.
There were six of us and Everything was delicious, the crispy duck was was a little grisly-the other five entrees and two appetizers were excellent !
We were in town for a conference, and David's was recommended as a "trendy foodie paradise." After making a reservation for 10, it was then we were told that there $25 A PERSON charge for cancellation. We only had 8 people in the end because a few attendees were stuck in traffic coming from D.C. Hostess didn't care to hear any of this - and we were charged an additional $50- $25 each for no-shows. Sorry, David's, you food service and ambiance is just not that great!! What a snobby practice. Plenty of other great "foodie" restaurants in a wonderful city! Yours is not one! I spread the word with conference attendees about your poor business practices. (And restaurant made us wait 10 minutes for a table when we got there too... no apologies there either).
Stopped in for dinner before show. Just about everything was delicious. The only small flaw was the crispy duck. The duck was ordered medium rare but was nearly raw on a few of the slices. Didn’t note a skin (which I assumed would be included with a “crispy” duck entree) and the time wasn’t taken to render any of the fat off.
5:00 pm service. Front end/wait staff very good. Price of food vs. quality was about 20-25% too high. My wife enjoyed a ravioli dish. I ordered CRISP duck slices. Arrived tepid, no flavor, barely able to cut, did not finish.
Lobster ravioli was unreal!!!
Food and service were very good, but space is a bit cramped and too noisy. Loved the menu choices.
Wonderful experience, as usual. Cocktail menu is imaginative and fresh. Love the steamed mussels with bacon, it's the best. Duck is no sloucher either. Will be back soon and often.
Very nice dinner and great service. Only recommendation is to choose more robust muscles. Currently they are not much bigger than a pencil eraser.
Overall experience was good. However we ordered mussels as an appetizer and they were not much bigger than my thumb nail. Smallest mussels I have ever seen and should never have been served. So this ruined the value of dining there. The rest of the meal was good quality but will not go back.
With so many wonderful choices in the Old Port we still always end up at David’s. The food is wonderful and consistent, service top notch, and drinks perfect.
We sat at the counter for dinner this time and had a great interaction with the kitchen staff as they prepared the delicious cuisine.
They were professional in all manners and put out incredible looking and smelling foods. It was fun to watch having owned restaurants in past.
David- Bravo!! On a job well done and for a staff fit for any 5star establishment here or abroad!!!
David’s is always a solid choice - warm surroundings, comfortable and a diverse menu - it fights the urge to be trendy.
The food is good and the desserts are better. Service is the best, but it all just can’t overcome the loud, hot, squeezed in feeling. The entire section at the far end of the bar was unused, yet lines formed right near our table the whole time we were there, and couples were turned away.
A great menu, the food was delicious and the service was right on. We sat in the backroom which we expected would feel private and quaint, we were not disappointed. Will definitely visit again.
We love visiting Portland. Every time we go we like to try a new place to eat. This trip was David's turn and it was enjoyable. We both liked what we ordered for food- I had steak tartar first and Mushroom ravioli for my meal. There were too many chips on the plate and they were quite greasy, but the actual steak was great. The the ravioli were heavier than I would have prefered, but tasty. My husband had a filet for his meal and ate the whole thing. Said it was very good and cooked to his liking. It was a friday evening, the place was very full and very loud. If you don't mind a lot of noise to enjoy a good meal, then you will enjoy this place. They have an open kitchen, which is nice to see everyone working and what they are cooking. It is expensive, but if you are going out as a treat it seems worth it. Not a good choice for everyday dining or on a date as it's too pricey and too loud. If you are social person and money isn't a big factor, this is a great spot. The bathroom situation is not ideal, wasn't very well stocked or especially clean, this is an area that could be improved, unlike the noise...
Just fabulous! Will come again. And make this our go to restaurant.
I was skeptical to go here based on the mixed reviews. The service was awful, we waited forever for our entree, and the food was not good. Do not recommend.
Alicia was our server. She made great recommendations which we took advantage of them.. Service was fabulous, food delicious, a bit noisy. This is a place to sit and relax, take you time and enjoy. We had an early reservation so the food was fresh and hot..this place deserves another visit.
