Esquire Drink and Dine
Despite booking almost a week in advance, we were initially paced next to a curtain, despite there being empty seats in much better locations (nobody wants to eat at a table which is pressed up against a thick curtain). It was hot inside and there was nowhere to hang my suit jacket. Oysters had bits of shell throughout which crunched on our teeth. The broccoli was saturated in sauce which did not complement it at all. The schnitzel was very average and the salad that came with it adds nothing. They tried to charge us for 2 bottles of mineral water when we only had 1.
Notwithstanding the above, the salmon was okay. The drinks were great. The waiters were friendly.
Go here for drinks, not food.
Everything was great, service, atmosphere - everything! Only thing I have to say is that when I asked the waitress what one of the meals were she didn’t tell me it would be a) very spicy and b) raw meat dish. But all staff were lovely about it and very helpful!
Dear CoraK, Thank you for your feedback, it really is helpful. Although we are glad you enjoyed your experience, we are disappointed we let you down with our service - we are addressing your comments internally and only hope we have the opportunity to win you back next time. Please do reach out should you visit us again and we will ensure your next experience is flawless. Yours, Maite Restaurant Manager
Good food flavours but small portions. Poor service as the staff had poor attitudes and had to get up and order drinks (4 times) as no one came and asked.
Dear MTTTTT, We are really disappointed to read your comments. We would never want a guest to feel as though we were inhospitable and it's disheartening to hear that's the impression we gave. We would really appreciate the opportunity to discuss your feedback, could you kindly get in touch with our Guest Relations Manager? We'll send her details in a private message. We truly hope to hear from you soon. Yours, Maite Restaurant Manager
Glad that there was a partition between the "after work" crowd and diners as that area was quite noisy. Perhaps as it was a rainy overcast evening a little more light would have been good. Loved the broccoli side with our meal - very tasty.
Dear HelenP, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. While we are glad you enjoyed the dishes, we are disappointed that your experience was marred by the atmosphere. It can certainly becomes boisterous early evening on the weekends. I usually suggest to guests looking for a more relaxed dining experience to join us early week or, for lunch. We truly hope you give us a second chance to impress you. Yours, Maite Restaurant Manager
We were beautifully looked after by three lovely women from the beginning of our luncheon until the end
Dear Jillypilly, Thank you for your kind words, we are so glad you enjoyed your experience with us. We are looking forward to welcoming you back soon. Best, Maite Restaurant Manager
Great dining experience, would come back try other dishes. thank you
Thank you, Angela0206770! We really appreciate your comments and are looking forward to welcoming you back to try more of the menu soon. Best, Maite Restaurant Manager
Amazing service, wonderful food. My go to place in the CBD.
Thank you, CarloS! Great to hear you enjoyed yourself so much. We're looking forward to your next visit. Best, Maite Restaurant Manager
Charming service and attentive, but not in your face, staff that managed to make us feel special (admittedly it was a quiet Tuesday night). The food was divine. Perfect portion sizes, well consider3ed ingredients all cooked to perfection and presented with flair. Wanted to go three courses - but in fact had no room after entrée and main. Will definitely return.
Being our third time to Esquire we are saddened with the lack of service this time, along with the food being served not as requested.
It did pick up but will seriously think about returning.
Great bar food and atmosphere at esquire . Highly recommend for a stylish place to have a drink .
The service was extremely poor in this restaurant. It took them more than 30mins to get our drinks, and another 40mins to get our food. However, the food was decent, despite the wait, and the restaurant had a pretty nice design and ambience.
The lunch special did not represent value for money. Thin cut of steak and had to request sides during as portion wasn’t sufficient. $145 for two steaks and 4 x drinks is overpriced.
Esquire should be Sydney's answer to Melbourne's Supper Club but it still needs to find its feet in terms of the right level of service (currently either too much or too little and all within the same couple of hours). Nicely decorated venue with potential. Just needs more practice.
Had an early 5.30pm booking after attending Saturday Night Fever:)
From the moment we walked we were made very welcome by all staff & more so by our American waiter Patrick who was simply the best in looking after us & fully explaining each course as it arrived.
The whole ambience of the restaurant & bar was lovely.
We had the Chefs Tasting for two which was a whopping seven courses & dessert plus salad & mash - each dish was well presented & very tasty.
Also finished off with two glasses of Giant Steps Pinot Noir thanks to Mr Sommelier Fabio then Espresso Martinis -WOW!
Thank You again for a great experience - we will be back
Loved the moody venue and the food was very tasty. The let down was the outrageously priced wine list.
Chefs menu good value at $65 a head. Nice buzzy atmosphere earlier in the night but after 10pm when the restaurant cleared there was only 1 floor staff & it took us close to 10 minutes to get their attention to pay the bill. Table too small for a group of 4 having the chefs menu with drinks.
All the staff are clearly new to hospitality. The barmen put so much ice in the cocktails they're undrinkable and taste watered down. Whilst the waiters are trying their best they bother you way too much and get order wrong repeatedly. The portions are far too small for the price.
Perhaps in a few months they might have gotten their act together but it still won't worth the price they're charging.
Beautiful spot. Great food. Service was a minor disaster. Wine didn’t turn up which sort of ruined meal and we asked four times to check. If it was my restaurant I would comp’d some drinks and apologised instead it was more sorry we are busy
A nice secluded pocket away from the noise of the shops. Lovely staff too. Only dish we didn’t love was the schnitzel, everything else delicious! Especially the lock and key cocktail. Yum yum. Will definitely be back.
