The service was excellent and it was a wonderful experience overall!
Worst waitress ever, it was 10pm and she was rushing us kitchen gonna close, calamari appetizer was horrible barely any calamari a lot of big jalapeño pieces and whatever else it was mixed with. LITERALLY I COUNTED 7 I complained and she did nothing about it . Not to mention she didn’t give us napkins or tableware I had to get up to get it. I asked for an apple martini on the rocks and she said they don’t have that there… IN NYC ON A SATURDAY.
Don’t waste your time,
It was great for a date night! The server was amazing. She was so attentive of our needs. I will definitely visit again!
Great breakfast! Thank you!
I came here for brunch & the brunch is such a great deal but the security and waitresses just seemed very condescending.
If your looking for a very beautiful well cooked meal while your having drinks and fun this is the exact place to go! It’s very nice inside and outside and filled with people having such a good time at all times! Great place and great food :)
I had a great time enjoying the food and drinks for my birthday here! We were a group of 15 and food and service was great however I was disappointed because they sat us outside towards the end of the block in an area with no decor/music which was the only downside.
Had dinner with Friends on Saturday, and only Restaurant Week menu was available. Food was good, but not great. Recommend the duck and the NY strip.
Service was really good and prices reasonable.
Oysters highly recommended
food for restaurant week was terrific, the meatball with whipped ricotta, the long island duck breast with the blue potatoes and the broccoli rabe, but the service slowed to a crawl as the night wore on the rain picked up and the indoor space became packed, so the charged me for the dessert, the appropriately cold chocolate mousse and tried to get us to leave before serving it, so very good but not great
I had a phenomenal experience. The staff, food and ambiance was pitch perft. The selection of drinks definitely was a plus. The service was great and the music was nice as well. I enjoyed the meatballs, salmon and chocolate mousse.
Essex had an incredible menu for restaurant week! Oysters, octopus, risotto! Amazing! I will definitely return!
Good food, has outdoor dinning. Staffs are friendly. Price is right for restaurant week.
Picked Essex because it was located near Pier 36, and of course, participating in restaurant week.
What an outstanding experience, between the service and wonderful waitresses, and delicious food.
Would definitely return!
Outdoor seating was great. Indoors was very loud, glad we were outdoors.
Good and service were good. Enjoyed the lunch!
Good brunch food with unlimited brunch drinks. Great morning!
very nice except for slow service, but very nice waitress
Great service . Food was solid, everyone has a good time but it was Extremely hot . We were in a corner and everyone was sweating. Couldn’t get any ac.
Great bottomless service. We had to wait over 30 min for our table but it seemed like the fault of other customers and not the restaurant. Good food and good drinks. Would come back!
Outstanding Brunch! Essex certainly lived up to its reputation as a brunch party destination but what surprised us was how good the food was! The "Aristocrat" with house made lox and caviar was unique and beautifully presented. Steak and Eggs was with a thick NY strip and not a skinny breakfast steak like you get in some places. We liked home fries so much we got extra orders. And yes, it certainly was a party--dance music was playing and mimosas were endless. We'll be back!
Extremely disappointed in the service. I booked a table for 15 people to celebrate my boyfriends birthday - we were made to wait an hour past our booking time outside in the heat because staff refused to kick the table before us out, despite them paying the bill prior to our booking. The table wasn’t cleaned properly, and the food was sub-par. We had reservations following our booking which we missed due to the length of time we waited to be seated and for our food to come out. I will not be returning for a large group booking, despite this restaurant being infamous for a ‘vibe’ - the only vibe I felt was disappointment.
Good options for brunch with good food. The service was good and kept us updated on our remaining time for unlimited Mimosas during our 90 minutes.
The steak was not good. It was tough, and cold, and when we sent it back to have it warmed up, it came back over cooked and dry. They did not charge us for it, so that was nice. Even though the manchego mac and cheese and oysters and sorbet were good, this place is overpriced.
For an early dinner, not crowded, lovely outdoor seating, delicious food.
service was slow given that it was NOT crowded. Food was quite good
Restaurant week menu was comprehensive. There was something for everyone. The food was good.
Food and atmosphere was very pleasant, the server wasn’t very attentive or good. I would go back again.
Drinks were horrible. Ordered 4 different cocktails between myself and my best friend. Appetizers were delicious but main course was disappointing. Service was non existent, almost an hour wait between appetizers and main course and then was brought out the wrong desserts. Was checked on twice and had to flag down the waitress the entire meal. Will not be back.
The steak was overcooked. The appetizers were very good, but desserts 🍨 were so-so
Excellent food and service, outstanding value
At first, the service was a bit shaky, but the restaurant self corrected, and a more experienced server took over. The food (all three courses) was excellent. The Bluepoint oysters were first rate, as was the Long Island duck breast, and the salmon was done to perfection. The desserts were excellent, also. Good wine values are available.
Great Restaurant Week Menu--One of the best restaurant week menus I've had. Varied choices including vegan and high end dishes such as NY Strip. The Hamachi Crudo was outstanding. My partner enjoyed his Arctic Char and Veal Meatballs. Small, but well-chosen wine list at reasonable prices. Servers were were very friendly without being too obtrusive. Would highly recommend.
Went here for restaurant week, and their menu was much more varied and bigger than most menus I've seen! It wasn't packed, so my friend and I felt very comfortable eating indoors, and the tables were fairly spread apart. The service was great, the food was delicious, and would love definitely love to come again.
The restaurant week menu had so much variety! The servers were wonderful and accommodating. Will be back again.
Dinner on restaurant week was terrific on a Monday. The choices were very good. Enjoyed the evening with friends.
Came here for brunch (this wasn’t the first time), and while the food was good, the service was lacking. Our server kept checking in every 5 minutes where we felt rushed to place our orders and not enjoy the FULL 1.5 hours of bottomless brunch. Our check came an hour into our reservation, and the server didn’t ask about any last rounds. She asked another server to check in about the bill, but again nothing about drinks. Upon asking about a final round they said no, and i mentioned we still had 15 minutes of the reservation and they came back with our drinks. Really turned us off considering there were tons of empty tables and clearly it wasn’t an issue of someone needing our table.
Always great. Only thing is the noise is crazy but overall always great. Nothing they can do about the noise.
We came here during restaurant week to give it a try and it exceeded expectations. The food came out quickly and was excellent. Everything we tried from appetizers to dessert was prepared perfectly and was delicious. There was a lot of space inside and the wait staff made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. Highly recommend!
Booked at the last minute. Pleasantly surprised. Beautiful outdoor setup. Food and service were really good.
I had veal meatballs appetizer and the duck entree and both were outstanding. A great restaurant week menu. They put their best foot forward for restaurant week (unlike so many now that offer a chicken-salmon-veggie pasta entree that are just cheap and not on their regular manu). Furthermore, they post their restaurant week menu online so you know what you'll be getting. We will be returning to this restaurant. Our waitress was also courteous and attentive.
Great outdoor area, great food, service slow but worth wait.
