Loved the food. My husband had duck with cherries which was excellent--not very sweet. I didn't get it because I'm not fond of sweet entrees, but I tasted his and it was excellent. Our friend and I had the striped bass which was nicely cooked--very crispy skin and moist meat. The chocolate dessert was also very good. By our standards, the place was expensive but it was a special occasion so we splurged.
Excellent food, quite delicious. I would have expected some vegetarian options on the a la carte menu. However, at least two pasta entrees were modified to make them vegetarian--and they were delicious.
We had a fantastic birthday dinner at Fat Hen. We tried the chef's tasting. They happily and expertly accommodated a vegetarian. The food was delicious, especially the agnolotti with peas and the foraged porcini mushrooms. Service was great, and the wines we had were consistently delicious.
We ordered the chef's tasting menu and all 6 courses plus desserts are excellent. The service is warm and professional. We had a great time and highly recommended the restaurant. I am planning to find an excuse to go back already!
Although the surrounding area isn’t fancy this place is a gem. Excellent foodie quality food with a VERY knowledgeable server. The four course meal + wine pairing was more than enough food. The scallops were divine.
Did the chef's tasting menu - really fantastic. Great service, great wine, every item was well presented, interesting and delicious. Third time to Fat Hen, every visit has been amazing. Very rare to find a restaurant that is consistently this great.
This is our new favorite place to eat in Boston. Fantastic food, with great service and great care. This is a neighborhood gem of the highest order.
The Chef's Counter is the best place for a date night! My fiance and I highly recommend the Chef's Whim tasting menu. Brian always creates the most beautiful, delicious, creative plates. I also brought my family here for Father's Day, and they had an amazing time. It's all about the experience! Brian, Jamie, and the rest of their team do a wonderful job of making you feel at home.
This was overall a good experience. However, the server spilt water on the table two occasions, and olive oil on one of the party members while serving it. Don’t think he noticed that, but did apologize for spilling water.
Enjoyed an amazing six course meal thanks to Chef
Brian Miller! Each course was a creative masterpiece.
Excellent use of many local products to create this tremendous dining experience. My preferred dining experience is the chef’s choice tasting menu where you leave the choices up to the chef. The Chef’s Whim Six Course Menu at Fat Hen is the best tasting menu experience I have had for the quality of the food and preparation, great guest experience and value.
Our server Jake also added to the great dining experience.
It was wonderful and the wine pairings with the food put it over the top. 10/10 one of the best restaurants in Boston.
Delicious and awesome vibe! The gemelli pasta we had was super rich and a little to oily but everything was amazing
Outstanding restaurant. The menu changes frequently, but every item I've tried is terrific. The chef's sense of flavor and texture is second to none. Friendly and smart service. Simple, neat atmosphere. Don't miss a change to eat there -- one of Boston's very best.
Great dinner. Attentive service.
Our favorite restaurant in Boston
If you are in Somerville you have to try eating at Fat Hen! I have never been disappointed with their food or service. Make sure to reserve before you go. If are willing to get adventurous I would recommend trying the Chef's Menu.
Fantastic and memorable! Will be back! Birthday dinner could not have been more perfect!
the food was really remarkable. The four course prix fixe with wine pairing is very reasonable especially given the high quality of the food and service.
The food was delicious! Excellent service ! We will be back!
We love this restaurant and thinks it's one of the best in the entire Boston/Cambridge area.
Excellent experimental food with wonderful service and good natural light!
Food was phenomenal! We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and everything was inventive and very well done. The wine was well chosen and excellent. The service was fantastic and was not stuffy as some 6 course tasting menu experiences can be. We loved it, fantastic date night.
Food was delicious and the service was excellent. I will definitely be going back and bringing all of our out-of-town visitors!
Four of use ordered the chef's tasting menu. It was one of the better meals I have had recently; very creative flavors and preparations. It was nice having the chef stop by the table several times to serve and to explain the dishes.
The food at the Fat Hen is generally wonderful. Incredibly high end gourmet. I had the scallops which were cooked to perfection. My husband had the duck breast which he thought was good, not great. But the dishes come with no sides so basically you are just eating protein. One slice of delicious bread was provided. It would have been lovely to have sone grains and vegetables along with the main dish.
The wine prices were very high.
Amazing experience unlike anything you can find anywhere in Somerville. Every single dish was outstanding and our server was super friendly and chose exquisit wine pairings. Will definitely go again.
This could have totally been a personal taste thing, but the crudo was only ok. I normally love all kinds of crudo, but with the one on your menu the flavors just didn't quite seem to match up. If I had to liken the taste to something it would be like a bitter creamsicle. Everything else was fantastic though! Jake, I believe, was the name of our server and he did an excellent job with pairing wine with our meal, making suggestions, and overall providing great service with his attention. Also, the pasta was phenomenal! My date and I plan to return.
Overall terrific experience! Looking forward to our next meal at Fat Hen. Delightful service, delicious food. Limited menu could be challenging for some but we loved it.
I took my girlfriend of three years here for our anniversary dinner. The restaurant itself was very nice and the table we sat at was great. The service and food were top notch. We got the quattro piatti special and everything we ordered tasted flavorful and fresh.
We have been twice and chef Brian has served up two incredibly different menus, both loaded with talented and delicious options. On top of that, they have one of the best curated wine pairings we have had.
Fat Hen was so delicious! My husband and I went for his birthday and it did not disappoint. It was pricey, but the food was outstanding. The service and food running (by chef!) added to the experience as well. Will definitely return!
Great food, service and ambiance. Small intimate setting for a special night out.
Excellent food and excellent service. Definitely will back.
The prixe fixe option is definitely the way to go when ordering at this restaurant. This was hands down one of the best meals of my life, and the chef and management here focus on excellently executed locally sourced meals. Highly recommend.
We did the chefs tasting menu and it was delicious. The portions are much larger than what we are used to when doing tasting menus at other places and you definitely get your money’s worth and leave full. The chef serves you the food with a description of what each item is. They were also very accommodating with my dairy allergy. Highly recommend - especially the roasted cod which was amazing.
Place was cute. The service was good and appetizers were amazing (we got the crudo and burrata). The pasta dishes were very underwhelming though. We got the gnocchi and risotto, both of which did not have the right texture. The gnocchi was quite chewy and overworked. Flavor of the risotto was good, a bit smoky. The gnocchi was bland though. Would recommend people try the place in general though.
The food was fabulous but I came away hungry. I had the crudo app and cod main dish and shared a dessert. What I really wanted was a bread basket. That would have made it perfect.
Everything tasted good, service was relatively slow, especially on cocktails. Expensive
Piedmontese wine dinner was extremely delicious and beautiful with very nice wine pairings. Our first time at Fat Hen, this was a lovely discovery.
