What Insiders Are Saying

The Infatuation

We don't use the term "destination restaurant" lightly. But the seafood at Manhattan Beach's Fishing With Dynamite more than fits the bill.

Great and inventive food. The restaurant is exceedingly small, with tables close together. When the restaurant is full, it's very noisy. We were there for lunch at 11:30 when it opened and by 12 noon it was almost totally full. That being said, the food is truly excellent, the service outstanding and the choices very varied. I would definitely recommend it to foodies.

My favorite restaurant in town! Love how the menu is divided into old school and new school seafood dishes.
Don’t skip out on the squash rolls...so good!

We were greeted by great and pleasant service. The decor inside the restaurant fit Manhattan Beach really well. All the food was great - we chose the dineLA tasting menu: raw bar platter, grilled albacore, crab cake, and a key lime parfait at the end. All the flavors were fresh and well spoken for in the dishes. Would definitely come again.

The place is small so it can get pretty loud with folks talking and the music playing. But we go every year during dineLA because the food is great and a good deal for what you get. My favorites are the hamachi crudo, crab cake and the key lime pie. We tried the fried shrimp tacos this time and yum. We went for a late lunch and were full! No need for dinner that night!

We’ve been here several times. Food is always great! Great raw seafood items. Rest of the menu is always inventive and varied and yummy. The bread pudding is to die for. Service is always top notch. Place is so tiny, it’s hard to get a reservation but that’s the only drawback.

If you want to make sure to get a table, go to fishing with dynamite for lunch. We Went for a very late lunch and had the restaurant to ourselves. Crabcake is full of crab. You get a huge amount of french fries with the fish and chips. The fish was very delicately fried and crispy. The absolute best thing that is must have, is the key lime pie!

Not a fan of small plates and "fussy" food, which is what this was. Very expensive for what you get. The grilled octopus was extremely salty. The rice was good, but not worth $27 bucks. Won't be returning.

FWD is another one of Chef David LeFevre's brilliant creations! The food is not only farm fresh local and sustainable, but truly delicious! You can actually find him shopping at SMFarmers Market early Wednesday mornings! AND they are wonderful to help a gluten free gal out! The fish experience, priceless!

Service was not as good as usual—food was delivered slowly and inattentively. Our special occasion fell on Manhattan Beach’s Xmas fireworks festival so parking was (and even walking) was difficult. Also, the pendant lights are not practical—I hit my head every time. Hope things are better next time.

We had a fabulous time at Sunday brunch. The cocktails were well made and fun. The food was full of flavours (scallops!) and the service friendly. We arrived just after noon, lots of seats available but it quickly filled up after us: it's a small room. Would recommend heartily.

The food was great and the location is ideal. It's something like formal food with an informal evironment. Really clever idea.

The only possible qualm is lack of space. If you don't mind being within inadvertent bumping distance of other tables and guests, the "informality" aspect is perfectly fine; it might even add to the charm of this place. If you absolutely need lots of space, maybe consider other options.

love this manhattan beach gem -- it really is perfect if you are making a day trip! however, this time the dining experience was a little less than. We ordered crab legs ($30) and the waitress brought out one measly crab claw, which we promptly asked for different pieces of the crab leg, pointing out how expensive the legs were already for a 1/2 lbs

The food was amazing! I could have eaten 100 of the Peruvian scallops. The food came out quickly and the staff was very attentive. The crab cake had just the right of lemon and was so moist. The waiter suggested this wine from Hungary that was outstanding. Definitely make a reservation because space is at a premium. I wouldn’t recommend this place for parties bigger than 4 people only because the establishment is decently small.

My fiancé and I left happy and satisfied. 10/10 would go again.
