From the beginning through the end AMAZING!!!
The quality of the food is so much better because of the farm to table aspect of the restaurant. Love this place. I'd eat there a lot more if it were less costly.
Food was just delicious.
The table service was awesome! The food selection and quality was outstanding! I am hoping they are working on modernizing their systems for waiting for a table. We will definitely be back when we return to DC!
Came here for a nice dinner out with my little sister while we visit DC for the weekend. Everything was almost perfect, except that our appetizer came after our meals did. It didn’t matter too much because it was cornbread and went well with our food, but it would have been nice to get it first.
Our waitress was great! Really good service. And of course the food tasted delicious.
Waited several minutes after being seated to be acknowledged. Our meal came out less than 2 minutes after the appetizers. Food was excellent but the other issues cancelled it out.
Had a great day in DC followed by a great dinner in Founding Farmers! A reservation is highly recommended as this restaurant is a popular spot. While waiting you can get a drink at the bar (seating is tough) and enjoy one of the flat breads. The Brie, apple and onion jam was delicious! Dinner was mouth watering, not the prime rib and the shrimp and grits leave you wanting more. Portion size was plentiful. Won’t be disappointed!
Love this restaurant! Had the Salmon; it was delicious! This place is always a favorite. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.
I came to Founding Farmers with my family to celebrate residency match Day 2018. While the food was great, the service was poor. Multiple errors with the food which resulted in it being sent back, the waitress took drink orders from half the table only, and she forgot to take a food orders from some of the guests.
Excellent food. Exceptionally busy (like always) but service suffered for it this time. Seemed like there weren't enough servers for the crowd. Food came promptly, but no follow up service and we had to wait forever to get a drink refill - it didn't arrive until they were cleaning off dining plates!
Very good food though, can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Remember to make a reservation! Food was delicious and the staff was friendly.
Very good food, very rushed meal. Yes we will return but now we understand this is NOT a dining experience, quiet or relaxing meal. This is EATING.
Do NOT go without reservations! Food amazing! Service good but because they are so busy all the time expect a little wait time. Not a place to go if you are in a rush. If you want a relaxed date night or dinner with friends this is a great place to go!
Love the food but the noise level is too much for me.
Very, very busy, but the food is worth it! Excellent cornbread.
Notified manager that we were still waiting for our table 25 mi utes after our reservation time. Not much of an appology to hear, " yeah, I don't like seating guests with reservations late...but it hapoens." Finally got seated for our 6:30 pm reservation at 7:05 pm. Was sitting next to a couple who were fighting during 90% of our meal- making it the most uncomfortable meal we've ever had. Next, got our food before appetizer. Rarely was checked in on by server. The food was great but the rest of the restaurant seemed like constant chaos. This places gets great reviews and I wished we'd had the same experience others raved about. Sad that managerial staff didn't step up to do more to make things right. Coming from someone who has worked in food service - more should have been done.
My husband and I visited Washington DC about 2 years and kept returning to the restaurant during our stay. I brought my daughter to Washington for a mother - daughter get away. The food was as delicious as last time. This time we knew to make reservations as the placed was packed even by 5:15 PM on a weeknight, with good reason.
Still had to wait more than 15 minutes even though I made reservation. That's very unusual and not common.
My family was running late that morning (tired from the previous night)... So there was only 2 of us on time for our original reservation. The host and hostess were great in accommodating us to sit even though we were an hour past our reservation. The waiter we had was great!
Excellent service, very clean space, good portions, and most importantly delicious!
A chilly Wednesday night in DC. Arrived at 8:15 for an 8:30 reservation, to a restaurant entrance in complete chaos. People lined up at the host stand, up the stairs, around the bar.
A VERY apologetic host said they were "overwhelmed" (translation: over sold. Airline deja vu, anyone?) and could not set us for at least 45 minutes. I actually felt bad for the host, who was given no way to communicate with guests that were waiting to be seated, observed them taking walk-in names while guests with reservations were left with no seating. Seemed like a wave of tourists had overtaken and maxed out their ability to handle
Hovered, then grabbed an empty stool at the bar. Cocktails, bar service, selection all were great, as were the appetizers we ordered from the kitchen. After waiting 45 minutes, and being told there were "still" no tables, we gave up, walked five minutes to another restaurant, and had a great meal.
Pointless to make a reservation. Despite having a reservation we got seated 45 minutes later.
Great food! The cornbread is worth the trip. It’s a popular place that’s very crowded and noisy. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time, but the food was well worth the wait.
The entire evening was fine except that my party and I had to wait 45 minutes despite having made a reservation. I will not return there again for a week night dinner at peak hours.
The place was packed and the waiter was very busy, but he was friendly and the food was very good. It’s clearly a popular spot...we were almost 20 minutes late being seated for a 6:30 reservation and at times the crowds waiting for a table were a bit overwhelming. But we enjoyed our dinner and would recommend it.
The main problem with Founding Fathers is their waiting area. There is a mass of people around the entrance (which is tiny) that then spreads into the dining and bar area. You can barely edge past them all to get to your table. They need to simply turn people away without reservations and they need to have fewer reservations. While the food was wonderful and at my seat the ambiance was ok, the experience of and then visual in my direct line of sight of the 30 some people hovering around the front turned me off. I doubt I would go back as it felt more like a cattle call then a positive dining experience. Once seated I also waited 21 minutes (yes I timed it based on previous reviews) until I got to order my drink and starters. I also took half of my corn bread to go, but when I got to my hotel I realized I had no butter/honey. So pointless.
My husband and I ate at Founding Farmers on Wednesday evening because we were visiting DC and it had been highly recommended. Not only did we wait 40 minutes to be served our cocktails, but the chicken pot pie was undercooked and the deviled eggs were the most bland I’ve ever been served. The cornbread was good as were the fried green tomatoes but this place is to be avoided ! They seem to be victims of their own success but I suspect they won’t be for long.
Superb service, innovative menu, comfortable setting. We will definitely return and try other items on the menu as the seasons change.
The food was amazing. The drinks were ok. The atmosphere was great. Overall, I can’t wait to come back.
This, was my first time. I have heard,so many great things, and you all exceeded my expectations. great food and great service
Really crowded during lunch rush...but food was really good!
It always takes awhile to be seated, even with a reservation and when we arrive on time, so perhaps not offer so many reservation spots if turnover doesn't happen as fast.
Took a work client here. Thank goodness we had an Open table reservation as the place was PACKED for lunch. It was one of the best meals we had in DC.
The restaurant did not live up to the hype. They were out of the juice I ordered. Not a crisis, but ok. Things went downhill from there...
They dropped off the appetizers but didn’t bring plates. They dropped off the second appetizer, and STILL didn’t come back with plates. In fact, my kids were using their napkins as plates when the meal was delivered. Then the waitress asks if we would like plates.
My scramble was good. My daughter’s came with out the sausage she requested they add. My other kids ordered the stuffed french toast, but wouldn’t eat it because it was too sweet. More like a deep fried piece of bread with donut filling than anything generally recognized as “french toast”. No biggie, just not what we expected. The kids wanted to order something else, but the waitress never came back to check on us. We literally flagged her down after 20+ minutes and asked for the check.
I can’t imagine ever going back. Not exactly sure why people think this place is great.
Great good. Huge portions, great staff!
Food came too quickly. Felt like the goal was to turn over as many tables as possible.
The only reason I didn't give five stars for the food is because the syrup was cold. It was as if it was pulled right from the fridge. Should have been poured in an individual jar and served at minimum, room temperature. But overall, the dish was great!!!!
Had lunch with my sister who is a vegan and there were plenty of delicious options on the menu for both of us
