Lovely food, lively ambiance. Been here twice so far, it's such a nice place to chill on a Saturday morning.
We sat at high chair table which was great, except it will be nice and more comfortable if the table has some sort of foot rest.
Excellent German food. The trout was especially good. The drinks are reasonably priced.
Lovely restaurant worthy of your Instagram. Fortunate to be in Capitol Hotel. But nothing more than a few photos. Food was terrible and not worth the money. The meatloaf is like luncheon meat but MaLing luncheon meat tastes better. The portions were so small my 11 year old son was hungry thereafter. We had to go for a second lunch. Not worth more than 3 photos. Do not expect this restaurant to last till next year. Will never return. You can take photos just by walking past the restaurant which many did.
We had been looking forward to eating at FRIEDA after seeing Instagram post by DanielFoodDiary. PORK KNUCKLE YAAAAS. I arrived earlier than my party and ordered the cold cut and pork knuckle first. Shortly after, I received a text from my sis telling me my 2-year-old niece had requested for fries. They weren't on the menu but I decided to try my luck anyway. “Hi, I know fries are not on your menu but is it possible to do a special order? It’s for my niece who's 2.”. My request was met with a rather condescending reply accompanied with a wide eye look, “This is a German restaurant, we don’t do fries.” I tried to cajole my way through but Ayumi, our waitress would have none of that, she told me that because it was a German restaurant, one really has to stick to the theme. (Pretty sure many German restaurants actually serve fries)
As Ayumi walked away, it struck me that FRIEDA was one of the many restaurants at the KEMPINSKI HOTEL, surely there were other outlets that served fries? So I walked over to the hotel building and was greeted by Nabil, the bellhop. He was most helpful, walked me to the Lobby Lounge and relayed my request for fries and for it to be served at FRIEDA. He then walked to FRIEDA with me to speak to Ayumi, who repeated the same line on how this was really not good for the restaurant's image and how it would affect the standards of the restaurant. I walked back to my table, leaving the two to talk.
After Nabil left, Ayumi came to my table and tried to tell me how she went to the American Diner next door and asked if they could do the fries and she would allow it to be served at FRIEDA as an exception but if I still want to order from Lobby Lounge, that is fine. This may seem like a reasonable concession but I wished it had come BEFORE she said No. Hospitality should be like good improv, one should always say “YES and…” and not “NO but… YES.”
Finally, the pork knuckle was delicious! However, I will be looking elsewhere to satisfy my craving.
Entrees were excellent - beef consume and sausages with pretzels.
However the pork knuckle for main was terrible. Very dry and with little flavour.
A lot of potential for this restaurant to be great. Long way to go.
Excellent ambience and service. I will definitely come back.
This was a wonderful experience. The food was fresh and outstanding quality. I loved sitting outside in the outside area. The service was excellent. A couple of times, they forgot to bring something but were overly apologetic when they did! I can't wait to come back again.
