Giraffe - Exeter
For us, there’s nothing more exciting than discovering these tastes. It’s our passion. Our obsession. It gets us up in the morning and into the kitchen, never knowing exactly what we’ll come across next.
Lunch menu - all dishes £6.95
From set lunch menu
A Breakfast meal, hot drink, or juice £6.50
From the Happy Brekkie menu
Nice food and service. I would suggest though, that the restaurant provide individual portions of condiments ie. ketchup rather than a bottle all customers are handling given current conditions.
Shame you don’t do draft beer.
Great pity that you didn’t have bananas but your staff went out to buy ONE just for me - and the weather was terrible - so well done to them - but why can’t you supply them properly?
Visited on a Monday. More Deliveroo than dining in and the constant loud notifications were an irritant. It felt as though staff were more focused on these than customers physically present.
Service was fine, but distracted. Menus had to be requested as did extra cutlery for the starter.
Sharing squid starter did not feel good value at £8.
Staff pleasant and doing their best, but focus on fulfilling online orders to time. Unfair pressure on them?
Warm welcome and friendly staff! However, when your breakfast comes out within 3 minutes of ordering, even before your coffee, safe to safe it's not been cooked to order. Very disappointed; my husband ordered the big breaky which was luke warm and most items appeared to be microwaved! I had the eggs royale which even the muffin wasnt warm, nor buttered. Table wasnt cleared after we finished, despite remaining there to chat for a little while. Overall, dissatisfied and wont be returning.
Really lovely food and friendly helpful staff. My only criticism is that it was very noisy and difficult to hear each other at our table.
Book a table for 1pm didn't sit down until 1.15pm and food took 45 mintues to come out no apologises. Order dessert for the kids and never come out in the end got up and left.
Just need to get there early. We went at a busy weekend and they run out of literally half of the menu and essentially had no beef. The duck noodle dish was nice though!
Valentines night. Waited ages for food. Had wobbly table but we couldn’t move to another. We ordered the set meal at 1295 each and the waiter tried to charge us 35 pounds for the two meals. Pleasant young man as a waiter though.
Very good food. Small portions but very tasty. Would definitely go back
1) the menu has changed for the worse
2) my food was served luke warm
3) I was given a free pudding as an apology which wasn't even served as stated on the menu
Very sad as this WAS one of the best places to eat in Exeter.. Not any more!!
241 gin and tonic was a good start, but the food was disappointing. Average chain restaurant quality food, not fresh but ok for a quick bite though over priced for the quality of food received.
The service was absolutely fine. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
The Katsu Jack Fruit Curry was really good. However, the Jack Fruit (normal) Curry was a bit bland and the portion size was very small.
I used my Taste Card so we felt we did have value for money.
The reason I would not recommend Giraffe to a friend was due to the temperature of the restaurant. it was extremely cold and we left without having a desert and hurried off to warmth and a hot coffee!
I don't know if there was a problem with the heating but we did feel uncomfortable.
Cosy and lovely place to have a dinner with the friends
Service was ok, not good. Food was quite quick but burger was still pink and cold. Not a good experience especially as it was quiet anyway.
We were left waiting for 20 minutes outside for our pre-booked table. Manager was great at communicating and gave us menus to pre-choose. However once seated we were ignored for 15 minutes and I had to ask to order. Food was another 25 minutes. Tables booked for 1pm but no food until 2pm didn’t help the children of our party who were cold from the wait and past hungry. They then missed the additional dish so our chips came 15 minutes after we had finished. We had to ask again to order dessert making a lunch stop for 6 people take over 2 hours!!
Sadly we wouldn’t go back which is a shame after dining there for over 5 years on our annual shopping trip :(
We arrived at the restaurant to be told their oven and equipment was not working so turned away, was annoyed we did not get an email before arrival to explain or offered an alternative, disappointing. Wasted journey and poor customer service .
Always great service, great food. Lovely casual dining and great variety on the menu
Not somewhere to go if you want a quiet meal and you do feel like your squashed in. We were asked to move after being seated due to staff forgetting they had a table of 7 to seat and needed our table. Happy to move but would have been a nice gesture to remove the automatic service charge off the bill for the very slight inconvenienceand noisy atmosphere! 😜
A lot of the items were not available and there was little flexibility for my dairy intolerant daughter. It became very apparent as early as 8.30pm that they were preparing to close the restaurant and clearing up around us. We felt hurried. My prawn curry had a mere 4 prawns. My husbands dish was not spicy. But the food was mostly perfectly ok
Sammie was amazing with our table, we had a young boy with us and he was delighted that he could press the button to choose his meal etc, all the extra attention to detail was appreciated by the whole family
I love this place, always yummy food and great atmosphere!!
Had a lovely evening Christmas shopping followed by a great meal at Giraffe. Great value with the three courses for £9.95. I was a bit disappointed that the Jackfruit curry wasn't available, but the chicken malay curry was delicious. Would definitely recommend.
We've always enjoyed our previous visits to Giraffe however this visit was a real disappointment. We booked for a meal for a friend's 50th birthday before going to cinema. There was a Christmas party going on down one end of room, which was fine but the three of us were squashed around a table barely big enough for us all to eat at - my husband had to eat on corner of table - table was right in corridor to serving hatch which meant delivery drivers for Deliveroo kept standing right next to our table and bumped into my friend whilst waiting. The area next to us had random cardboard boxes in and then they proceeded to empty bins beside us as we ate. Food was just okay nothing special - I'm afraid we won't be back!
The restaurant was cold and there was a draft as the door was constantly propped open by customers waiting. The service was slow, we waited over half an hour for our food and when we got it it was cold as it had been sat waiting for staff to bring it to us for a while.
We were the first to have the Xmas deal offered . The starters were excellent, main course good , and desserts poor. We ordered 2 bottles of wine which were not served until near the end of our main course!! We had to remind staff to bring the wine. The dining experience was marred by the fact that it took 3 attempts to get the bill correct!, we would have been overcharged by50% had we not queried the bill.
Cold burger on cold slaw! I didn't want to moan as I had limited time for lunch. Won't bother next time.
We had booked the Christmas party menu which unfortunately was not available however the staff allowed us to have 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for the same price, which was great. Service was excellent and we had a really lovely lunchtime experience.
very enjoyable staff friendly but long queues for toilets not ideal when you have small children but main gripe was toilets are quite dirty really put me off.
Overall the meal and experience was quite good, although one of our party ordered a Burrito and there was a very small amount of meat in the burrito. Just a tiny dollop. This was disappointing, and it might put me off going back.
Had the nachos which were barely covered so quite dry. Haloumi fries were awesome. Beetroot burger pretty bland along with handful of fries. The £3 coke was mainly ice and quite flat.
Overall I want to support somewhere that does lots of good veggie options which giraffe do offer in choice. But the food quality is not what I remember from eating in giraffe years ago. I wouldn’t go again.
I would reccomend them in terms of service and convenience, but would urge them to go on a day when they have offers on because the prices on food is eye watering for what you are getting....3 burgers, 3 Churros and 5 drinks and our bill was nearly £70!!!! 😳 Also the toilets are disgraceful, everyone we talked to said 'you can't drink much anyway or you' ll have to brave the toilets' (this is not a one off, this is based on general standard / smell by late morning over a number of visits.
Our second time eating here, definitely not as good as the first unfortunately. Side salad was just a bowl of leaf and being pregnant, wanted to get the nutrients in. I had flatbread which was nothing special and my partner had steak which again, was nothing special. Now the deserts on the other hand, so yummy. Churros are to absolutely die for. Cocktails are expensive but a good range and good quality. Did not enjoy staring at our dirty plates for so long, extra staff was needed
While the food is fine (not terribly exciting) we realised after we'd left that we'd paid for an item but not actually gotten it (a side). So, I'd say the place lacks organisation and oversight.
My husband and I really enjoyed our dining experience at Giraffe. We do eat out a lot so was nice to have such a variety on the menu, the pudding menu was even better I must admit ! So save room ! Staff were friendly and approachable and a great selection of cocktails and mocktails
Friendly staff and great food. We had delicious veggie burgers and as an added bonus they were half price as it was a Tuesday!
Really gutted as was so excited to eat here but was so dissapointed! First the drink I ordered came out wrong and they were certain it was what I ordered despite being a different colour (the bill even confirmed it was different to what I ordered!) I didn't get an apology and it was me apologising to them for asking?! The food wasn't that impressive and the service wasn't the best as we felt like a burden. My partner also ordered an extra with his main which didn't arrive and no one came to check on the meal so we couldn't tell them - and then we spotted it on the bill!! They did inform us when we arrived that their would be a wait due to a large table which was nice and we did appreciate that.
Pleasant and good service
Service was sloppy we had to ask twice for our drinks before we were served them. Food took a considerable time to come out. Food we ordered came out at the incorrect time. They had to amend the bill twice because of mistakes. Put a service charge on the bill without asking after not great service. Food was below average in terms of quality, I have eaten at Giraffe before and it was great but this was a really bad experience.
Great menu, very child friendly. The puddings are particularly yummy
Lovely place to sit and watch people go by. Menu options looked great but the teriyaki beef salad I had was a little disappointing. Kids meal was good value and it came with a great toy (not a rubbish price of plastic but a quality animal figure) There was only 3 of us and service was automatically added to the bill, personally I would prefer it to not be.
