Giraffe - Exeter
For us, there’s nothing more exciting than discovering these tastes. It’s our passion. Our obsession. It gets us up in the morning and into the kitchen, never knowing exactly what we’ll come across next.
We were left waiting for 20 minutes outside for our pre-booked table. Manager was great at communicating and gave us menus to pre-choose. However once seated we were ignored for 15 minutes and I had to ask to order. Food was another 25 minutes. Tables booked for 1pm but no food until 2pm didn’t help the children of our party who were cold from the wait and past hungry. They then missed the additional dish so our chips came 15 minutes after we had finished. We had to ask again to order dessert making a lunch stop for 6 people take over 2 hours!!
Sadly we wouldn’t go back which is a shame after dining there for over 5 years on our annual shopping trip :(
We arrived at the restaurant to be told their oven and equipment was not working so turned away, was annoyed we did not get an email before arrival to explain or offered an alternative, disappointing. Wasted journey and poor customer service .
Always great service, great food. Lovely casual dining and great variety on the menu
Not somewhere to go if you want a quiet meal and you do feel like your squashed in. We were asked to move after being seated due to staff forgetting they had a table of 7 to seat and needed our table. Happy to move but would have been a nice gesture to remove the automatic service charge off the bill for the very slight inconvenienceand noisy atmosphere! 😜
A lot of the items were not available and there was little flexibility for my dairy intolerant daughter. It became very apparent as early as 8.30pm that they were preparing to close the restaurant and clearing up around us. We felt hurried. My prawn curry had a mere 4 prawns. My husbands dish was not spicy. But the food was mostly perfectly ok
Sammie was amazing with our table, we had a young boy with us and he was delighted that he could press the button to choose his meal etc, all the extra attention to detail was appreciated by the whole family
I love this place, always yummy food and great atmosphere!!
Had a lovely evening Christmas shopping followed by a great meal at Giraffe. Great value with the three courses for £9.95. I was a bit disappointed that the Jackfruit curry wasn't available, but the chicken malay curry was delicious. Would definitely recommend.
We've always enjoyed our previous visits to Giraffe however this visit was a real disappointment. We booked for a meal for a friend's 50th birthday before going to cinema. There was a Christmas party going on down one end of room, which was fine but the three of us were squashed around a table barely big enough for us all to eat at - my husband had to eat on corner of table - table was right in corridor to serving hatch which meant delivery drivers for Deliveroo kept standing right next to our table and bumped into my friend whilst waiting. The area next to us had random cardboard boxes in and then they proceeded to empty bins beside us as we ate. Food was just okay nothing special - I'm afraid we won't be back!
The restaurant was cold and there was a draft as the door was constantly propped open by customers waiting. The service was slow, we waited over half an hour for our food and when we got it it was cold as it had been sat waiting for staff to bring it to us for a while.
We were the first to have the Xmas deal offered . The starters were excellent, main course good , and desserts poor. We ordered 2 bottles of wine which were not served until near the end of our main course!! We had to remind staff to bring the wine. The dining experience was marred by the fact that it took 3 attempts to get the bill correct!, we would have been overcharged by50% had we not queried the bill.
Cold burger on cold slaw! I didn't want to moan as I had limited time for lunch. Won't bother next time.
We had booked the Christmas party menu which unfortunately was not available however the staff allowed us to have 3 courses and a glass of prosecco for the same price, which was great. Service was excellent and we had a really lovely lunchtime experience.
very enjoyable staff friendly but long queues for toilets not ideal when you have small children but main gripe was toilets are quite dirty really put me off.
Overall the meal and experience was quite good, although one of our party ordered a Burrito and there was a very small amount of meat in the burrito. Just a tiny dollop. This was disappointing, and it might put me off going back.
Had the nachos which were barely covered so quite dry. Haloumi fries were awesome. Beetroot burger pretty bland along with handful of fries. The £3 coke was mainly ice and quite flat.
Overall I want to support somewhere that does lots of good veggie options which giraffe do offer in choice. But the food quality is not what I remember from eating in giraffe years ago. I wouldn’t go again.
I would reccomend them in terms of service and convenience, but would urge them to go on a day when they have offers on because the prices on food is eye watering for what you are getting....3 burgers, 3 Churros and 5 drinks and our bill was nearly £70!!!! 😳 Also the toilets are disgraceful, everyone we talked to said 'you can't drink much anyway or you' ll have to brave the toilets' (this is not a one off, this is based on general standard / smell by late morning over a number of visits.
Our second time eating here, definitely not as good as the first unfortunately. Side salad was just a bowl of leaf and being pregnant, wanted to get the nutrients in. I had flatbread which was nothing special and my partner had steak which again, was nothing special. Now the deserts on the other hand, so yummy. Churros are to absolutely die for. Cocktails are expensive but a good range and good quality. Did not enjoy staring at our dirty plates for so long, extra staff was needed
While the food is fine (not terribly exciting) we realised after we'd left that we'd paid for an item but not actually gotten it (a side). So, I'd say the place lacks organisation and oversight.
My husband and I really enjoyed our dining experience at Giraffe. We do eat out a lot so was nice to have such a variety on the menu, the pudding menu was even better I must admit ! So save room ! Staff were friendly and approachable and a great selection of cocktails and mocktails
Friendly staff and great food. We had delicious veggie burgers and as an added bonus they were half price as it was a Tuesday!
Really gutted as was so excited to eat here but was so dissapointed! First the drink I ordered came out wrong and they were certain it was what I ordered despite being a different colour (the bill even confirmed it was different to what I ordered!) I didn't get an apology and it was me apologising to them for asking?! The food wasn't that impressive and the service wasn't the best as we felt like a burden. My partner also ordered an extra with his main which didn't arrive and no one came to check on the meal so we couldn't tell them - and then we spotted it on the bill!! They did inform us when we arrived that their would be a wait due to a large table which was nice and we did appreciate that.
Pleasant and good service
Service was sloppy we had to ask twice for our drinks before we were served them. Food took a considerable time to come out. Food we ordered came out at the incorrect time. They had to amend the bill twice because of mistakes. Put a service charge on the bill without asking after not great service. Food was below average in terms of quality, I have eaten at Giraffe before and it was great but this was a really bad experience.
Great menu, very child friendly. The puddings are particularly yummy
Lovely place to sit and watch people go by. Menu options looked great but the teriyaki beef salad I had was a little disappointing. Kids meal was good value and it came with a great toy (not a rubbish price of plastic but a quality animal figure) There was only 3 of us and service was automatically added to the bill, personally I would prefer it to not be.
Underwhelming and relatively expensive food, presentation on the dish was messy (salad dressing all up the sides of the bowl for instance); waitress asked us to stack and pass down plates at the end of the meal... Only good point were the drinks, the 'homemade' lemonade was nice.
this restaurant was recommended to me a few weeks ago . I visited it with my daughter and son in law. We were so impressed with the overall service and the food was great, so many different flavours that blended together . We really enjoyed it.
A friend came to stay for a few days last week so I booked for the two of us, like me she really enjoyed the food , it was delicious . We also had the Churros for desert , I wil definitely make it a regular haunt when family and friends visit and I shall dine there on my own as the staff are so friendly and helpful..
I would not hesitate to reccomend Giraffe to all my friends and family as you can be sure of a fab meal and great service.
Food was fantastic. Kids cleared their plates! BOGOF voucher was a huge bonus!
There was a little bit of waiting for a pre-dinner drinks request to be taken, but after that everything went well. Additionally, we were very pleased that Giraffe is one of the few places in Exeter that honoured a TasteCard discount on a Saturday Evening.
The Lovely Olives starters really did live up to their name - deep and soft tasting with a rich oily flavour. After this, the Freekah Salad was 'packed' with chicken and the Malay Tofu Curry was nicely adorned with not too many chillies making it truly exceptional. A nice touch was the fact that as the draught beers were unavailable on the night we were charged the same price for a bottled alternative consisting of the same quantity. Peroni Beers are something to savour and not rush, and this did have a truly emollient effect on the whole experience.
We will search you out on our next trip to Exeter.
First time at Giraffe and it will be the last time. Service was very slow with me asking after a 20 min wait for our drinks order. My table was booked for 6.30 for a partly of 4. I would like to point out the restaurant was dead with only 4 customers sitting down. Main meals basic and looked dried out. To be honest wetherspoons food is better and half the price. I really wished I went next door to Nando's as the atmosphere, service and food would have been better. Oh and the £9 service charge on the bill was a joke also!
The first time we have experienced poor service. Restuarant was very quiet, had to remind staff several times for orders and they were forgetful. They included a service charge on the bill (for only 2 people) on the amount of the bill before discount
Food took too long to come out and was not very hot when it did.
10% service charge added to bill without asking, only 4 diners.
Portion size was very poor
Many thanks to Monica who gave great service. Very professional and extremely pleasant
The food was lovely as always, but the service was very slow considering there were 3 tables in and 2 staff on. The drinks took over 5 minutes to be bought to our table after they were made!
We do not go to Giraffe often but when we do we always enjoy it. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
We’ve had breakfast at giraffe many a time & been pleased. However dinner was poor. We waited at our table for 25mins before anyone even took our order. Our drinks sat on the bar for over 10mins. It would have been quicker just to get them ourselves. The burgers were on special - there was nothing special about them. You could see the brioche buns were past their best & were dry as stale bread. The burgers were mediocre. For a quiet Tuesday night the service was unforgivably poor. And we felt ignored. Certainly wouldn’t recommend based on our experience. A real shame
Lovely food! Service was quite slow though and I also didn’t appreciate the added ‘gratuity’ that was just expected.
I went here for a mothers day meal, which was pleasant. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful but my only niggle was that we we sat down and were expected to know what we wanted to order straight away, so it felt a bit pushy. Other than that, the food was nice and my children enjoyed it too.
Good service, it was quite busy so they were a little slow, but that’s just one of those things! Once ordered, the food came out really quickly. The food more than made up for it though! Super tasty and well worth the wait!
