We always enjoy our time there, service is great, food is good ! The only negative is every time we go there, they have these wicker Booth like chairs and they sink in the middle so you feel like you’re falling into the person next to you! They really should get rid of those !

This is my go to place when I’m in town visiting my mom. Food is always good and service is always good. I don’t mind the little chickens that occasionally run thru the open patio doors. Prices are a tad high so if you are seeking a basic burger/budget kind of place this is not it.

Goen has been our favorite restaurant on the islands since your opening. Our favorite go-to dishes were your fish and chips and your duck breast dish. However, in the last few months the fish in the fish and chip dish is no longer flakey, moist, tender and good sized. It is now so thin, dry and the batter overwhelms the small amount of fish. On one order, I could barely find the fish. Several friends have all agreed that they will no longer order the fish and chips. My other favorite has been your Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast. It was consistently moist, tender and wonderful. I ordered it 2 nights ago and the duck was tough and dry. I didn't finish my meal. I hope our experiences were not a sign of a permanent change in the quality of your ingredients. We love everything else about Goen. Thank you for every dining experience we have had over the years.

I bring my mom here frequently. We ALWAYS have the same dinner entree: mysoyaki butterfish. More fresh Tomatoes please !! Two types of pickled sides ok but maybe only one is better. Maybe a piece of the eggplant instead of a pickled side.

Drinks were great, esp the lychee martini. Amy was so kind to ask the kitchen for a dinner app we were craving but didn't realize it was not a lunch app, thanks Amy so much for that! Food was delicious, don't skip the mushroom fry basket with that creamy herb dip...yumm!

Delicious😋 We tried the Pink Dragon Firecracker Roll and it did not disappoint. Along with that, we had one of our favs, the Beet & Roasted Feta salad, yum! Always greeted with a smile, really sets the mood for a wonderful time.

This is one of our go-to places, and it was the perfect place to celebrate my husband's birthday with our kids and my mom. There's something for everyone and it's all delicious. The only thing I can suggest is that the restaurant may want to invest in some new seating for the booth (non chair) options because the wicker has gotten a bit worn out in places.

I've been coming to Goen since they opened about four years ago and have never had a bad experience. My one issue is that, ever since the changes from Covid, they no longer serve food at the bar. Since it's just me, I used to enjoy sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender while having my meal. Hopefully, they will be able to offer this again, as I prefer not to sit at a table by myself. I just got back from Vegas a week ago and saw they had a couple of new items on their menu and wanted to try them, so I made a rez. I was seated and ordered my usual cocktail, the Nippon 75, while munching on their complimentary spicy edamame. One of the new items was the pork belly katsu. It's an appetizer that is pork belly, cooked "katsu" style, then sliced and placed on a housemade katsu sauce, then topped with dollops of tartar sauce and kaiware sprouts (think wasabi greens). The pork was moist with a crispy crust and skin. The mix of the two sauces went well together, the salty sweet katsu sauce mellowed by the tartar sauce, with the slight tang of the greens. My next dish was the beet salad with panko fried goat cheese. I like beets, and this is a nice refreshing salad whose flavor is enhanced by the crispy, sharp wheel of coat cheese. I ordered the branzino entrée along with a glass of Roy's pinot noir, a great pairing. The saffron butter provides a nice, creamy mouth feel that compliments the crisp skin of the fish and the taste of the potatoes. After dinner, I stopped by the bar area to chat with the bartender and have a dessert cocktail that she knew I liked. I ended up having two before heading home, full and contented. Great food, great service. What more can I ask... other than dining at the bar, lol.

I wish I could like this place, for the price of the food it really isn’t worth it. Brussels sprouts are deep fried and just taste like oil. Sushi was ok, everything was way overpriced for what it is. The ambience is ok, servers were really friendly. I have been to others Roy’s restaurants and feel this needs a facelift and some love. It could be an amazing spot in Kailua with a few tweaks.

Had a great dinner tonight at Goen. My sister has a few allergies and they went out of their way to make sure they didn’t cross contaminate anything. I really appreciated the waiter checking with the kitchen on the items we ordered and offering options. I was really impressed! Thank you!

A dining experience at Roy’s proved very disappointing. Ambience aside as an open eatery, the food was disappointing (bland, nothing stood out except the eggplant appetizer among all the other starters and main entrees). No spectacular eats; nothing to write others to encourage they try GOEN. Service too was very sporadic, not attentive. Sorry. Won’t go back nor tell others it was good.

I’ve been here a couple of times. The food is pretty good, but the service needs work. She was nice, but very occupied. They seem to be short handed and the server is doing multiple things like take orders, make mix drinks, etc.

As usual, the food was outstanding…beautiful presentation, great quality, and of course, absolutely delicious. I assure you that anything you decide on will not disappoint; especially, the butterfish!!! What really deserves mention and comment are Kristine, the Manager, and Dani, our server! Too often one doesn’t give thought or credit to how service can impact one’s dining experience….positively or negatively. I’m truly a believer that service is the dealbreaker, when commenting on an outstanding restaurant (of which Hawaii has many). I’m so impressed with Goen’s service and hospitality! Kristine remembered us from a year ago!!! She and Dani made our dining experience so memorable, and a cut above the rest. MAHALO, KRISTINE & DANI🤙🏻🌺♥️

Happy with the food, service and vibe. Rattan chairs look so cute, but we were sat at one that has been damaged. My husband and I were uncomfortable, fighting the slant of bench that was tilted to the middle. I wish I had mentioned this to the server when I was seated.

Somewhat pricey, but good spot in the heart of Kailua. Portions a bit small (only 3 shrimp in the shrimp scampi), but good. The cocktails were amazing--highly recommended. We only tried it once, so limited exposure to the menu. Would definitely try again.
