Ramen
Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

Very loud, and long delay for table service after being seated. Understand staffing issues so it was fine, but something to be aware of when booking.

Yummy food and great selection of dishes, but must order all extras to each soup. Understaffed and busy, so get ready to wait

The cocktails on tap were gorgeous and the veggie side dish was incredibly flavorful. We had veggie ramen and it hit the spot. Service was a bit lacking but I think this was due to COVID staffing issues. Great vibe.

I can never resist this place. This time, I got a spice bomb with my usual regular spicy shoyu, not super spicy but still flavorful, so would recommend. Also recommend asking for spicy chili oil to add an extra kick.

Delicious and authentic! I'm no ramen expert, but I've had ramen in Japan, and Haikan was the closest I've ever tasted to Japanese ramen in the U.S. 11/10

The restaurant was clean and appeared to observe Covid Protocol. All of the waiters wore mask. It was really unremarkable.

We had the mapo tofu aburamen, the spicy shoyu ramen and the veggie ramen. All of those were fantastic! the three dishes were unique with it's own flavor profiles. The veggie ramen broth was rich and creamy. The tofu was perfectly silky and spicy.

I missed this place so much during the pandemic. I did get outdoor seating here last November and ordered ramen to go one other time, but I used to go about once a month pre-covid. Still the best ramen I've had so far in the city, and I've been to Daikaya, Chaplin's, Jinya, Umaya Izakaya, Bantam King, and a ramen stall at Union Market. The staff was great, everything was clean, and I felt comfortable being back at a restaurant (had outdoor seating again, but with many more people around).

We used to look forward to eating at Haikan. We would drive past numerous ramen locations to eat there. Unfortunately, neither the food, service, nor ambiance match what we experienced there before. It was disappointing.

Really enjoyed the ramen - it was filling and savory and hit the spot. We were seated outside, appropriately distanced from everyone else and felt very safe. The cocktails were also delicious. Would definitely go back.

Some of the best ramen I've had. My only suggestion would be to add some tempura shrimp to the menu. I love to dip tempura into the shio broth.

It was nice to get the in restaurant experience for ramen again! Haikan is still one of the top ramen places in the city. We both had the spicy shoyu and split the crab cheese wontons which were very good.
