We had the Onion soup (best by far in Warwick area). Potato Pancakes & Amsterdam Authentic Bitterballen
mini croquettes filled with a homemade sirloin bechamel filling as appetizers. The Prime Rib sandwich, which was melt in your mouth perfection. Authentic Swedish meatballs also excellent. The entire experience was reminiscent of the original Jolly Onion restaurant of decades ago! 😀
Food is always good but on Sunday Lobster bisque soup was exceptional compliments to the chef.
The Jolly Onion had a warm welcoming atmosphere and the food is delicious.
Great food. Huge portions. Would recommend.
Very enjoyable! Husband, mom, and sisters also enjoyed!
Great Place, with great food and a nice beer list.
We will be back!
Friendly and attentive staff, country chic décor and superb food.
We started with the German pretzel and wings. Totally worth it. Dipping sauces were mild as to not overpower the pretzel. We got the wings mild too so as not to burn out our palates for what lie ahead.
Next up we had the classic strip steak and the black forest veal cutlet. Washed down with weissbier and Doc's cranberry apple cider.
We closed it out by sharing a NY Cheesecake. Dense and sweet with a caramel drizzle. Everything was truly outstanding.
Everything about the place was outstanding. The food, ambience, service, parking was a breeze. We love it
Food and service excellent . Always enjoy the drinks on their special menu.
Jolly Onion is a favorite of my girlfriend and I, the first visit was for her birthday in September, this time was for a date night. We live in NYC and it’s worth the hour and half drive. The food was delish as always however this time our giant pretzels were slightly burnt and over salted. The socially distanced dining was enjoyable, didn’t feel crowded. Overall I would recommend and the drinks are good as well.
Great food with even better service.
Despite many tables, we were placed by the kitchen so the noise hindered the evening from the start.
Waitress was great but food was bland, lacked taste and we won’t be returning.
Onion soups lacked flavor and lacked in cheese.
Daughters burger was cooked to well done instead of medium rare as requested. Beef patty was thin and looked like it was bought from a store.
Wife’s pierogis were cold coming out of the kitchen and didn’t have much taste of anything inside of them and her wedge salad came with a sauce that was more like a orange thick yoghurt instead of a blue cheese dressing.
My cut of steak was great but cooked to medium well when ordered rare.
We didn’t send any of the food back because table next to us did and faced attitude from the hostess and their food took another 30mins.
Dishes were just bland and it was clear things were rushed with no care.
Have been in the past to mixed experiences and we want to help small businesses as much as possible. This was a horrible experience though and the chef needs some help in a serious way.
Won’t be returning.
We were in the mood for a casual night out, and with few crowds. This was perfect - the room we were put in was almost empty so we felt safe. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Haven’t been there in many years -Enjoyed food , service excellent. I would recommend.
In the middle of the ancient inland sea that is now the Pine Island Black Dirt onion country is the Jolly Onion. The authentic German fare was truly very good. Schnitzel and spaetzle with red cabbage..... perfect and the menu has American food too. The wait staff was attentive and the tables were spaced for social distancing. Overall it was a great evening.
My fiancé and I live close but have never been. This will be our new go to for date night! Loved everything from start to finish. I highly recommend the smoke special!
Brought my family of 7 and there was a food option for everyone. Service was great and everything was well made. Cant wait to come back!
Would not go back. Food was expensive and awful. I do have to say all the staff was extremely efficient, very friendly and the service was fast. We ate inside but I could see outside looked inviting with heaters and lighting. Now get a different chef ! I don’t mind paying for food that is edible
Great food and service, it was our first time but certainly not our last as we are returning tomorrow evening with the whole family
Food was great !
Love German food? Then come on over.
Where are the onions? Why not serve onions in one form or another with each dish?
Side dishes were so tiny! At least put them in small bowls or plates instead of condiment dishes.
Excellent food and service from appetizers through dessert.
Great place, seated right away and service was great all night. Food was very good we will be back for sure!
Pleasant atmosphere and staff. Nice bar and good drinks. Food was fine. We will return
The Jager Schnitzel was delicious and the apple strudel was the best we have ever tasted.
Nice new outdoor seating! Great drink specials, attentive wait staff!
Great food and service,
We had a great dinner at the Jolly Onion. Service was attentive and cheerful and the food was delicious (huge portions). Surprisingly reasonable, considering the high quality.
Food and service were great! We were seated immediately. There was live music when we were there and the preformer was very considerate about the volume. Tables in the bar area were quite close, but it was a fun evening
This was our first visit since the reopening of the restaurant, and it was a great experience! The decor has been spruced up, and they allow you to feel like you are in an intimate setting, even with many people in the dining room. We were seated promptly, given a chance to review the menu, and then we placed our order. Appetizers of the German pretzel and the cheese board, entrees of Jaegerschnitzel and Cordon Bleu, desserts of Cheesecake and Black Forest Cake. The bread served was delicious, and the portions were quite generous and faster wonderful. Already planning our return!
Warwick has many "fine" restaurants with City-quality food. This is not one of those, but it IS fantastic. Sort of an "institution" here, a family-style place with wood panelling and incredible Scandinavian comfort food. It's like eating at your Polish-American friend's house who's Mom is an amazing cook...with 1970's look decor, to boot! It's as kitchy as kitchy gets! Great bar and selection...you will NOT leave hungry. (Swedish meatballs and perogis to DIE for!)
First time back since reopening, disappointed, herding couples to a dingy back wall while dining area virtually empty! Don’t believe the pics on line, dark and dreary. Old painted damaged base board heat. The staff was friendly, inexperience showed, took 1/2 hr for appetizer. Ordered beef Med, got dark red center, Traveled 25 min . Not again!
Sam was a wonderful waitress!
We love the Jolly Onion but sometimes the food is a bit bland and the atmosphere is a bit loud.
This is a cozy spot for excellent German-based food with fantastic beers (although I am not a beer drinker), very friendly service (with the exception of Steve at the desk who for some reason did not want to seat us in main dining room even though it was empty except for one table. We had a reservation but he just said “I have too many reservations coming in”. I insisted because I did not want to sit on a hard piece of wood in the bar area, and lo and behold at 5:30 when we left only one other table had been filled.), and great homemade desserts. Try potato pancakes, jaeger Schnitzle & strudel.
Service was excellent however one of the five entrees at our table was disappointing. The Farmers platter featured excellent smoked sausage, good pierogies and bacon.....but both the mashed potatoes and sliced pork were dry and overcooked. Additionally it would be helpful if the restaurant had better lit signage by the road. Two of our guests drove by twice before locating it.
Excellent Thanksgiving dinner. Food was hot, delicious & plentiful. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Thankful they were open. Will be back to try their regular menu. Highly recommend.
I usually get a dish with home fries but they changed to roasted potatoes. Liked it better with sliced potatoes.
I’m a Chardonnay drinker, they only have one by the glass and it is not drinkable. Otherwise always an enjoyable experience and nice staff.
The tastiest of European flavors served by such a friendly staff that extended great service. I revisit more often if I want an hour away.
