About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for special occasions
King Tide Fish & Shell is a riverfront seafood restaurant and bar inspired by the laid-back fishing lodges of family vacations gone by. With sparkling waterfront views of the Willamette, a welcoming energy and a menu that ranges from no-fuss to fancy, here at King Tide we serve fresh, inventive seafood dishes with local ingredients that are uniquely Portland.

There aren't many places that command the vantage point we enjoy here at King Tide, so we like to make sure it lives up to Portland. We do that with a blend of the traditional and the non, the comfortable and the slightly twisted, the satisfying food and the swinging drink.

As we like to say, King Tide is where food & drink & people always complement each other, and everything goes with the view.

We had terrible service. They were friendly in the beginning but sort of rude after we had to wait for things and ask for things that hadn’t been provided. Like spoons for soup. And then we discovered we were automatically charged a 20% tip. No wonder the service is bad. They don’t have to provide good service to get good tips.

Very nice setting as it's right on the river. Then you can enjoy the scenery. Food is pretty overpriced and there is an automatic surcharge at 20% for service and an additional 2% for kitchen staff.

Lobster bisque is waste of money; not that tasty, small, no lobster meat and pricey. Good sample of what most of the menu was. I would not return for dinner.

Service was inattentive despite it not being very busy for a very early Saturday dinner. They were late in taking our drink order and when they finally delivered my husband's lager, they just dropped a can at our table. Our waitress wandered off so we had to track her down to ask for a glass. Food was overly salty and totally not worth the price - I think I had 8 mussels in my main entree for $31. The atmosphere was nice an has potential - it's right on the water.

Service is slow, waitress could use more training , she was slow to request, bring dessert without the icecream that should be part Of the order like 10mins later. Bring a pen for signing does not Work…. Really could improve on service .

Food and drinks were great and the ambiance was fantastic overlooking the river at sunset. Staff took care to seat us by the window and were very attentive. A special dessert rounded out the evening and made it a memorable birthday.

Courteous and competent staff at this restaurant with a lovely view of the river. Nice selection of wines by the glass but pricey. The food was lacking in several ways, mainly taste. The $44 sturgeon was overcooked. The best part was the roasted red pepper coulis and giant beans. The fish and chips were disappointing, rock fish tasted old and fishy in a bad way. Came with frozen French fries, pet peeve. If you’re going to claim to be a fish restaurant, you need to do better.

The service was slow and food was mediocre at best. My poached eggs were hard boiled and even the chicken sausage was rubbery and overcooked. The price was ridiculous for the dishes. Much better options in PDX.
