About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
  • Romantic
Located at 699 14th Street on the coveted corner of 14th and G Street NW, La Grande Boucherie is situated on the most high-profile street in Washington D.C., just one block away from the White House. The restaurant is built in elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style, evoking the sense of optimism from the turn of the 20th century. The brasserie’s menu features both classic and modern French dishes, with focus on the meat program, raw bar and extravagant large-format meats, ideal for sharing and celebrating. Mahogany wood and glass partitions divide the gargantuan space to create intimate dining experiences. These pieces are adorned in gilded accents and uniquely curved arches inspired by the 20th-century Art Nouveau movement of Paris. The main dining room highlights a massive curved bar with a metal top imported from Paris, a signature piece of Boucherie.

With a reservation, we waited for more than 40 mins despite there are many empty table available. We were arranged at the second floor table without light or candle, very dark. The area is isolated from the other parts by a wall, so we cannot feel the vibe of the remaining restaurant at all. The service is a mess. We don’t have a cup what we have asked for multiple times. Food is JUST SOSO.

Very disappointed. First off we were served the French onion soup, it was very sweet, I believe too much sherry. The escargot was just okay. Two out of four of our drinks were not how we ordered them. The pork Diane dish was very dry. The filet mignon - au poivre was very good. The fries were greasy and limp. Service was mediocre, surprise a manager did not come to us for returning 3 French soups. Such a beautiful restaurant, but the food was lacking.

This was my second time dining at La Grande Boucherie. I was a bit early for the reservation, and had to wait until the rest of my party got there. As I was waiting, many many people came in and were seated ahead of me. The rest of my party arrived, but rather than being seated, we were told to wait at the bar. Frankly, it would’ve been much more pleasant if I had been seated by myself because then I could’ve ordered a glass of wine while I waited the five minutes for my son and his friend to arrive. We were seated upstairs, which is a lovely dining area, but unfortunately, the service is slower up there. I should have stuck with my original plan of ordering the salade nicoise, but I was intrigued by the pork tenderloin with Diane sauce. Unfortunately, the pork was dry, and there was not enough Diane sauce to remedy that. My son and his friend ordered the steak frites and both of those were delicious. They cleaned their plates! I will definitely return to La Grande Boucherie, but will ask to be seated downstairs and I will not order the pork tenderloin.

La Grande Boucherie in DC is an elegant, visually stunning spot that feels like a true escape to Paris. The ambiance is upscale yet inviting, with beautiful art nouveau details and a lively buzz that makes the whole experience feel special. The food was delicious—classic French fare with a modern touch. I especially enjoyed the steak frites and the buttery escargot. Service was generally attentive, though there were moments where things slowed down a bit, likely due to how busy the restaurant gets. Still, it’s a great place for a date night or celebratory dinner. I’d definitely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a chic dining experience in the city.

My recent visit to La Grande Boucherie offered a mix of delightful highs and noticeable lows. Let's start with the undisputed star of the meal: the French Onion Soup. It was, quite simply, amazing. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, it set a high bar for the rest of the dinner. Unfortunately, the Heirloom Tomato & Fennel Salad fell flat. Despite the promising ingredients, it was surprisingly bland and lacked any discernible flavor. I definitely wouldn't recommend this dish. Moving onto the main courses, the experience improved significantly. The Bone-in NY Strip was pretty good – a solid choice for steak lovers. The Filet Mignon «Au Poivre» was a highlight, perfectly cooked and delicious. The accompanying mashed potatoes were also well-executed and tasty. However, a frustrating point that detracted from the overall experience was the addition of a 3% fee to the bill. While the food had some excellent moments, this unexpected charge definitely brings the overall rating down.

Venue itself is just beautiful - gorgeous large windows, decor, ambience, lighting - this place has it all. Food was extra special - starting with the bread. Had the tomahawk ribeye for 2, that was among the best I’ve ever had. Everything was exquisite. Wait staff was very friendly, knowledgable and pleasant. Overall a very romantic special night, that was an absolute pleasure to discover.
