Come dine in this beautifully restored Uptown restaurant on Magazine Street and enjoy James Beard Award Winning Chef Justin Devillier's contemporary Louisiana Cuisine.

The La Petite Grocery name pays homage to the history of its home, a building that’s stood for more than a century. The original structure was built in the late 1800s and called the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot. In 1908, a fire devastated the space and it was transformed into a full service grocery store. Later it was most notably a fine foods and butcher shop, VonderHaar’s Fine Foods until 1982. When La Petite Grocery opened in March of 2004, they similarly aspired to provide the neighborhood with exotic teas, locally roasted coffee, and fresh produce. By doing this, we hope to provide a dining experience that evokes nostalgia of old New Orleans. Reservations are preferred.

    The food was absolutely delicious. We got the blue crab beignets, ricotta dumplings, fried green tomatoes, turtle bolognese, and apple butter sorbet. Incredible flavors!

    The building and restaurant has a great story. It’s wonderfully restored and has great ambiance. We had beet salad as an appetizer (fresh, clean, light) and shrimp and grits and turtle bolognese as entrees (both were fantastic). The shrimp and grits are so different from any version I’ve had. Amazing. Pasta in the bolognese was perfect al dente and the sauce was outstanding. What brought the meal down was the service. It was poor. From the beginning with the hostess who seemed annoyed at our arrival, to having a switch of waitresses midstream neither of whom seemed to recall where we were. The restaurant looked to be about 60% full. It was not busy (Sunday late). We were just ignored. Perhaps something was going on that we had no reason to know. But it was frustrating and had a significant, negative affect on our dinner. We are from out of state and had really anticipated a great experience. That did not occur and frankly the food, as good as it was, did not overcome that. There are other very nice restaurants in NOLA, so we’ll move on. I truly hope this was just an off night for them. That happens. FWIW, I’m not normally a review writer. Just a reader!

    La Petite Grocery is a MUST visit in NOLA. Search TikTok for videos of their food and restaurant videos. If you go, do not leave without trying the crabmeat beignets!

    Always a stop when we visit. Unfortunately, this time was our last. Biscuits were dry. Had to ask for salt and pepper for non seasoned eggs. They served a dry biscuit and no accompaniments like butter or jam. Service lacked. It was such a disappointment. Not up to par and don’t recommend.

    Everything was wonderful!! They make the absolute best French 75. Had the soup, scallops, fish and beef ribs. Pavlova dessert was excellent as was everything else. Joseph was a marvelous server. Can’t say enough about it as usual. Wonderful way to celebrate our 34th anniversary.

    Food was exquisite. Crab beignets should not be overlooked! Cocktails were delicious. Loved the decor. We shared ten items all which were amazingly prepared. This is a must eat at establishment if you like fine dining in a warm atmosphere.

    Warm and inviting when walking up to the restaurant, hostess staff was so kind immediately even with us being 45 minutes early. Drinks were made exquisitely, service was quick but not rushed and the staff answered all menu questions well. Food was phenomenal. You have to get the blue crab beignets! YOU HAVE TO. A ball of JOY. Turtle bolognese was also very good! My partner and I split it and they were so sweet and put it in two bowl for us. Great experience

    This restaurant was very good. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and he gave us great recommendations. We started with the blue crab beignets, which were fine, nothing outrageously tasty. We also shared the apple salad which was extremely crisp and refreshing, wishing I could have dairy because I ordered it sans blue cheese which I think would have really nicely leveled up the dish. My husband had the rabbit and loved the sauce, very easily cleaned his plate. I had the chicken which was tender and delicious, I did not care for the sides that came with the chicken but my husband loved them. We also ordered the broccoli and white bean cassoulet , I highly recommend both of those, would probably go back just for those two sides.

    This is a wonderful restaurant with incredible food and outstanding service. It was a delightful experience. I also appreciated the organized reservation process. It was reassuring that our party of eight was expected. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    One of my favorite dining experiences ever! Try the crab beignets and do not roll your eyes at the burger! My wife got the burger, I got the rabbit and both were elite dishes… but if we get to go back then I am getting the burger!

    LPG is consistently fantastic. I am so glad I live close by and can go often. Jeff, the bartender, is awesome and often has good suggestions for food as well as drink! The burger is fabulous and the turtle Bolognese is my other favorite dish. You really can't go wrong with any dish though.

    Excellent appetizer (blue crab beignets) and entree (beef tenderloin). The tarte tatin was disappointing. Not cooked as a tarte tatin but rather compilation of separate ingredients. Unfortunately, the waitress did NOT tell us about the daily specials. I would have preferred the daily dessert of apple tarte with cardamom ice cream which we weren’t told about.

    The bad-my martini arrived dirty even though I specified NOT DIRTY. Had to get a do over, which was delicious. My mother’s fish special entree came out room temp. Returned, Re heated & was delicious. The good-crab beignets, burger perfect med rare (one of the best in the city), shellfish stew, mango sorbet & pavlova all standouts.

    Seafood stew was delicious mix of flavors of seafood and fresh greens, The baguette was perfectly crusty and warm. The bourbon mule was perfect. Lastly the beet salad with greens and imitation crab was light and fresh. Did know if I would enjoy sitting g outside, but it was a pleasant cool fall evening.

    Wonderful food. The dumplins are to die for and the beets are incredible. Don’t miss out on an insanely good burger. Fried green tomatoes to beat the band. Service is EXCELLENT. Everyone was so nice, we wanted for nothing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

    We were a group of five friends, all well-traveled and restaurant-savvy. La Petite Grocery was GREAT! It was our best meal of several outstanding meals over the course of a 5-day visit to New Orleans. First, the food...everything was superb, but the blue crab beignets were standouts! Two members of our party ordered the LPG burger, which was also outstanding. The filet and the chicken breast were excellent. Second, the service...top-notch. We had an excellent server / waitress, who was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Finally, the ambience...a beautiful space. The only downside to our experience was the noise level of the room, which was quite high. That being said, everyone in our party would enthusiastically recommend La Petite Grocery! Outstanding!

    We heard great things about this place and decided to try it on our recent trip to New Orleans. This place did not disappoint. Absolutely one of the best meals we had on our trip. Wait staff were friendly and attentive and the food was incredible. We devoured every morsel. Try the rabbit and the pecan tarte! Chefs kiss!!

    This is an amazing place. Have been coming here for years, it is our standard Sunday Brunch place each time we are in New Orleans. Service is amazing, food is out of this world - you MUST order the Blue Crab Beignets with a Big Red Hammer Bloody Mary, brunch is done! I recommend you order more than 1 order of the beignets, you will thank me!
