Le Cavalier
“Le Cavalier” (pronounced: luh-KAH-vuhl-YAY) honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley.
Le Cavalier (Le Cav) is a French brasserie from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin that takes the brasserie out of Paris and transports it to Wilmington's iconic HOTEL DU PONT. Provençal fare meets North African and Middle Eastern influences in the dining room that once housed the historic Green Room. Le Cav is open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays with indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. Brunch available for Sundays.
The Le Cav Team is excited for you to share this unforgettable experience.

Service was excellent, food was great and overall the experience was perfect. The atmosphere is a wonderful blend of old and new. Great job to the owners for maintaining the history while updating an inviting people of all ages.
Went for Easter dinner. Small menu but that’s ok. Delicious meal! Service was ok but a few little omissions—did not bring water until we asked for a second time. Hot tea without offer of sugar, etc. Had to ask. Mistake made on bill which had to be rectified. Overall good experience.
This was a Fix Prix, 3 course dinner. Each course was well prepared and well presented. The Crab Cakes were exceptional as they were nicely crisped on the outside with lots of wonderful crab inside. Everyone was knowledgeable, polite and prompt.
Forgot to put in drinks then charged for one of them. Said there were no frites for the burger but a server had fries with her break meal. The crab cakes had so much crab seasoning they were almost inedible. They charged $25 for my granddaughter’s waffle.
I’ve been here for dinner on 3 occasions and enjoyed it immensely. I was embarrassed to keep apologizing for this over the meal.
Automatic 20% gratuity was not earned.
Nothing financially was done to ameliorate the disaster. At least they could have picked up the other nonalcoholic drinks or the valet parking.
Never again for brunch and I warned my friends.
Atmosphere beautiful. Service very slow and food was lukewarm. For Easter Brunch price fixed- they automatically added tip which was not mentioned for a party of 4. Very disappointed.
First-time visit. We met friends for dinner and champagne to celebrate our vaccinated selves. It was an absolutely perfect evening. Attentive service. Lovely, comfortable, socially distanced, yet lively atmosphere. The food was impeccably prepared; particularly the roasted chicken provençal. Wow. ‘Can’t wait to return!
Highly recommend the Parker Rolls.... trust me! I love the history and ambiance of this place. Service was excellent as was the white wine!
After an unfortunate start because they had given our table away, we still had a good meal.
Staff was very accommodating and the food was excellent.
Food was amazing... service not good felt rushed n not attended to for the type of restaurant it is
Although the food was excellent ( especially the beef tartare and the lobster in the small plate section ), The service is very inconsistent. At times we felt ignored. If the service can be improved, this beautiful restaurant would indeed rate four or five stars.
First impression - wow, they totally destroyed the elegance of the Green Room ! Pros: food was fine. Lobster appetizer excellent Service was very good. Cons: 1) they charge for bread $6 and you can only get parker house rolls 2) way overpriced $ 200 for the two of us, ordering two cocktails, one glass of wine, three appetizers and one entree - no desserts or coffee. 3) they no longer validate parking 4) limited entrees included a cheeseburger and a roasted cauliflower[not kidding] - only steak was a flank steak with McDonald's fries. Choice of only two desserts. 5) a giant bar now is IN the restaurant and takes away the Green Room style ambiance and risks loud background noise. Conclusion: this is an example "If it ain't broke, break it"
We had the best dinner on 3/26. The food was just perfect and service super friendly. We had the Parker house rolls, warm citrus olives, lobster tail, salad, steak & burger. Perfection... seriously.
Worth trying.
Delicious Cesar salad and starter courses. Liked the selection of entrees. The chocolate mousse was delicious!!
Great ambience and food. Service was slow but food quality was very good
Someone needs to properly train the staff.
Ambiance is great, was not blown away by the food especially for the prices. Would love to see the food quality improve to be a true fine dining experience.
We have been long time Green Room patrons. Absolutely love Le Cav. Food and drinks were phenomenal! It’s a tragedy however that they no longer have the famous Hotel DuPont macaroons there anymore. You can sometimes get them at the front desk but it’s really a shame that one of the best and most recognizable things about the Green Room is no more. Great experience otherwise.
Enjoyed most of our experience except...no chilled Chardonnay on wine night. Very limited wines to choose from. Will try again.
Food is excellent. Bar service a bit slow. Very expensive.
Great drink, wine, and beer offerings.
Menu offers few selections, but Quality and Service were excellent.
Meal was cooked to perfection. Ambiance leaves a little to be desired.
Eclectic,Gourmet Food
The ambiance is perfect and we love sitting at the bar so we can sample the latest libations from Rob.
Always a pleasure... great food, great staff ... a stunning location
Food is excellent, and the bar staff always serve excellent and creative drinks. Highly recommend.
The Food was very, very good...the lobster dish was superb as was the branzino dish. (only criticism on dinner was the large bowl of plain green beans served as a side). The service was warm and attentive. The ambiance was lovely. Overall excellent experience.
We have been looking forward to going to Le Cavalier since they opened last year. Now that we are fully vaccinated, we could do it and...we were not disappointed. Loved the bar and the bartender. He introduced us to two of his spring cocktails and they were both superb - and terrific old Tom gin concoction and a smoky mezcal libation we just adored! Our dinner no less superb. We split a hen of the woods mushroom dish for an appetizer and it was fantastic. Then, M had the steak frites and I had the house cheeseburger. Wow to both but the steak frites was a showstopper. We can’t wait to return!
There is nothing wrong that could be said about this place! Everything was amazing!
Absolutely wonderful experience! Will be coming back soon!
Morgan, Thank you for the great review, we look forward to seeing you again very soon!
Steak Tartare and Lobster were great starters. Very solid steak frites. Wonderful night out
Steve. Thank you for joining us!! It is always our pleasure to contribute to a great night out!
I always Love going to that restaurant… It is the most beautiful room… Food is great and the waiters and waitresses and all the staff are very friendly
Tina
WE love you joining us at Le Cav.!!
I normally do not leave a bad review but this dinner was horrible!
Services and dinner was bad.
And on to top of the bad service, the waiter tried to charge us two extra drinks from a other table. And don’t ask for heavy cream or whip cream as they don’t have it. French cuisine but they don’t have whip cream or heavy cream? Maybe the chef should travel to Europe.
Appetizers Wine GREAT; Mixed Drinks made to PERFECTION; Desserts FANTASTIC !!
Chicken Tagine very poor, undercooked, needed to send back, although chicken skin was cooked well and there were crispy parts. The flavor was nothing like north African (I expected bold spices; green olives were indeed green in color, but no punch; the red stuff was made from tomatoes, but again, lacking in flavor) very disappointing !!
I had brunch at Le Cavalier on 2/28/2021. The overall experience was bland. The fine dining days of the Green Room and Hotel DuPont are sadly a thing of the past.
The brunch menu is limited and overall expensive. With the gratuity I spent $90 and it was an overpriced experience.
I don’t plan to dine at Le Cavalier in the future.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide feedback.
Seated by the door despite having made a reservation days before.
The bartenders were awesome, what a great we had! Sean was our bartender both both men were awesome
We thank you for sharing time with us at Le Cav. See you soon at the bar!!!
Our second time dining here this winter. A more upscale clientele this time versus our last experience. Our steak tartare was excellent. The French onion soup also very good with a healthy amount of cheese and served at just the right temperature so that it was hot but didn’t burn our mouths. There was a new chicken dish - Chicken Tagine - which was a whole young chicken roasted excellently with a hint of cinnamon and other spices. I hope they make this a regular item.
All in all a nice dining experience. We got our favorite table and enjoyed an unrushed dinner. We will be back soon.
So happy you enjoyed your return visit to Le cav. !!! Hope to see you again in the near future.
The service and food were great. If the server tries to upsell, go for it. It was well worth it and complimented our meals. Will be back again.
Thank you so much for joining us at Le Cav. Our team loves to share their favorites from the bar and food menu, so happy they were able to steer you into a great experience!!!
If you enjoy a craft cocktail this is your spot. While we are enjoying Delaware over NYC through Covid the Bar Duo has managed to quell our insatiable thirst for creative and tasty libations.
So happy we are able to fill the void in your thirst for creative libations!!! See you again soon.
