“Le Cavalier” (pronounced: luh-KAH-vuhl-YAY) honors the deep equestrian tradition in the Brandywine River Valley.
Le Cavalier (Le Cav) is a French brasserie from Chef-Partner Tyler Akin that takes the brasserie out of Paris and transports it to Wilmington's iconic HOTEL DU PONT. Provençal fare meets North African and Middle Eastern influences in the dining room that once housed the historic Green Room. Le Cav is open for dinner Tuesdays through Saturdays with indoor and seasonal outdoor dining. Brunch available for Sundays.

I would highly recommend Le Cavalier Sunday's brunch it was delightful, service, food and ambiance was exceptional. My friends and I drove from NJ just to have brunch there and was not disappointed. Jack, Meg and Sean were very welcoming and provided excellent service. Hope to be back soon.
We are so happy you enjoyed our Brunch and our family . Hope to see you again soon at Brunch and maybe for dinner as well!!!
Beautiful venue, high ceilings, good spacing - about as good an indoor environment as one can hope for in these Covid times. Oh, and the brunch and service were excellent.
Jeffery, Thank you for taking the time to send us your wonderful review. The Team loves the positive food back, and thank you for joining us!!!
The food was excellent as well as the service. Ambiance sets this restaurant apart from others in the area. The only criticism the menu was limited but it’s understandable because of Covid.
Allan, Your feed back is so appreciated. We will be expanding the menu as things progress in a positive way with Covid. Looking forward to Spring ,and seating outside...
Our dinner this week was once again delicious, and the ambience was perfect for the three of us to dine and talk. We tried the Soupe A 'Oignon which was cheesy golden melted perfection. The Little Gem Caesar salad with the avocado had a nice hint of lemon. The cheeseburger and order of frites was perfectly cooked an had a generous helping of the "fries". The Branzino was the whole fish with a delicious pistachio chile accompaniment. Half price wine night makes getting a refreshing bottle of natural wine such a great bargain. Our server was efficient and courteous. The bartender was knowledgable and friendly. The chef did an outstanding job as always. Actually everyone you meet at Le Cavalier was professional, and they make the dining experience memorable. We can't wait to dine there again.
Wow!! Thank you!!!! Thanks for giving such a glowing review. The Le Cav Team thanks you!!
The atmosphere and food were excellent. I would have few complaints about the service and management. We had the reservation for Valentine’s Day dinner 7:30 pm, booked it few weeks in advance, got there around 7:40. We were told that we have to wait for our table which was no problem at all. Got the drinks and waited in the lobby for around 30 minutes. After we finally sat on our table around 8:20 we were told that few things are out of menu which was pretty limited (it was prefix menu). Ok, no biggie. Then it came the time to order. From the first course I ordered shrimp cocktail because they were out of oysters. The server told me that they are out of the shrimps as well which left me with only on option ( with no extra charge because it was prepaid already) - Salad. We didn’t care if we need to pay extra but that’s not the point. Obviously then we were disappointed and told that to the server. After that magically the server said that they have the shrimps. Which got us even more confused. If the salad would pass through then they would keep the last (if it was last?) portion of shrimp to other people? I completely understand that it’s not servers fault, he was great. But management should be more organized. Despite all of this we enjoyed the food, the drinks, the music. Beautiful place and really worth it.
Thank you for your feed back, The response was overwhelming for the Valentines Prix Fixe, and we appreciate your understanding around items that were sold out , we were pleased to be able to serve you and look forward to seeing you again very soon!
Valentine’s Day! The service was excellent - thank you to Evalina, Long and Erin. It was a great menu and the duck and branzino (thanks to Evalina for the recommendations) were both wonderful. Very attractive space.
The Team thanks you for your positive feed back!! Hope to see you again very soon.
First Time at Le cavalier, won’t be the last! We went for Valentine’s Day and they had a pre fixed menu. Food was delicious, and our waitress was great! Looking forward to going on a regular night to enjoy the regular menu!
Thank you for your feedback and we are so happy you have a wonderful time!
Valentines Date at Le Cav did not disappoint. The prix fixe 3 course dinner was perfect and the specialty cocktails were an extra highlight.
Duck l”orange was crispy on the outside and perfectly perfectly pink and juicy on the inside. Scallops were caramelized on the outside and melted in your mouth.
The vibe was lively and hip as I usual.
Well done all around.
John, thank you for your wonderful note. Come visit us again soon!
They have it down to what service and quality of food is all about. Five Star raising is not high enough to rate them
So glad we were able to serve you during these trying times, and give you a little happiness!
Excellent service. Great food. Beautiful setting and ambiance. 5 stars would recommend
Ambiance - couldn’t be beat. Every square inch was gorgeously photogenic. Couldn’t stop smiling and looking around lol
Before our reservation, sat at the gorgeous bar and had easily the BEST dirty martini I’ve ever had which is saying a lot, and my date had his first (but not last) of two Gibsons. Omg.
My date and I had the Valentine’s Day menu. Every bite was delicious. The service from hostess, to bar staff, to server, and wine connoisseur were top notch! With both service and personality.
Apps: gnocchi Parisienne & oysters Rockefeller.
Entrees: Branzino, duck l’orange.
Both desserts were delicious.
PLUS: the chef sent out an extra slice of cheesecake
The wine expert gave us a sampling of both whites amd an explanation before deciding.
We were extremely impressed by the food, drinks, and ambiance. Sad it took me so long to visit. We cannot wait to go back.
If you want a very nice night, bomb food and cocktails, this must be the place. You cannot be disappointed!
We were honored to serve you on such a day as Valentines. Each dining experience for our guests, especially now is our privilege. Thank you for taking the time to offer such praise!!
Beautiful physical space. Every bite from the Valentine's menu was absolutely delicious. My husband and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants and this was one of the best dining experiences we've had. Even though we live about 2.5 hours away, we will be adding Le Cav to our list of places to visit often.
Thank you for the great note! We are happy you enjoyed your time with us. Looking forward to having you back sometime soon!
This was a great experience. We plan on returning.
Thank you for the 5 stars! Please come back soon and dine with us at Le Cav.
Pricey, but the food and service were both terrific.
Meal, service, atmosphere, the drinks were great. It was a prix fixe meal for Valentines Day and we really enjoyed ourselves! Looking forward to returning.
Thank you for taking a moment to share your experience!! Kaylin was so happy that you enjoyed her service!!
Food was delicious. I ordered gnocchi with lump crab and caviar but they forgot add the caviar. Still was delicious. Dis not complain. Service was great but there were so many servers I felt as if they were patrolling the dining room. Constantly walking up and down. We were there for Valentine’s Day so a pre fix menu which was fine but could have included a salad course in between the apps and entree. Over all nice experience and I would go back but for a more causal meal.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. WE will certainly take your pointers in consideration for future events!! Thank you again, and hope to see you soon.
The Green Room used to be THE fancy place in Wilmington for a fancy celebration. Always a sure thing. A terrible metamorphosis has taken place and now it has become what someone envisions a French bistro to be like. No more elegant spacious dining experience and ambience. Instead one felt like in a better railroad station.
OK. So I accept that change is the thing of the world. But you should also stand behind your aspirations and pretensions and deliver !
Not a crusty piece of French baguette or an olive or a piece of paté was in sight while having a drink waiting for the prix fixe meal............
The oyster Rockefeller were ok, but cool and not juicy, there was not a crisp green salad to behold, the Bavette steak was tasty but tough and sans scallions. My husband could not chew his. White chocolate mousse for dessert was very tasty. Merlot was served chilled and the olive in the martini was the smallest I have seen in a long time. The waiter was very helpful and did his best. The new art deco like ambience and ‘quality' of the food do not warrant the very high prices. One has the feeling that they are really skimping.
Thank you for your feedback. As we always look to expand and elevate our guest experience feedback is an important tool for us. We hope you do come try us again soon.
The onion soup is really great. Cocktails are fabulous too and the ambience is top notch. Well done Le Cav!
Thank you for your feedback! We are happy you have a great time. Looking forward to having you back soon.
Food was good, service was excellent, the room itself is wonderful. Wish people would talk using their inside voices, as everything is a hard surface and prone to echos. Not helped by the bump-da-thump music constantly playing. Anyway, other than the noise level, everything was awesome.
4 diners, one older, one younger, & two middle-aged. We all thought our entrees weren't very good. They were busy & the waitress was so sweet, but she simply forgot several items, i.e. the Parker House rolls, ketchup, beverages. The chocolate mousse for dessert was frozen & served in a soup dish with a large thin cookie. Really unappetizing. The hotel is gorgeous, all renovated & just like walking into the early 20th century.
Our waitress E was very good, charming, attentive without being overly so, and knew her menu well. The large plate menu was small (5 options including the special) but we chalked that up to covid world limits. Drinks and food were well presented and arrived timely and hot. We were celebrating birthdays and had a lovely evening.
Room has been modernized and many features are incompatible to space - not visually pleasing. Severs were very friendly and efficient. Cocktails were excellent. Menu choices are very limited. Colossal shrimp in shrimp cocktail. Steak frites ($37) was good, but not exceptional. Served with ordinary French fries, similar to a McDonalds. A more elegant potato dish would be more compatible. Value for dollar is questionable - I don’t mind paying $12 for drinks or desserts and $20 for shrimp cocktail, but I think paying $6.00 for dinner rolls is ridiculous. Side dishes are $7-9. Dessert was chocolate mousse with raspberry, one of my favorite combinations, but the raspberry was overpowering and the almond cookie served with it was greasy and tasteless. All in all, it was just an average meal and experience.
The room is stunning to look at as most everything is original to its 1913 build. The food was fantastic and our server Vincent was knowledgeable and friendly!
Thank you for joining us at Le Cav. ! Your positive feed back is greatly appreciated!!!
Offering cuisine you can’t find anywhere else in the Wilmington area.
Thank you for joining us at Le Cav. ! Your positive feed back is greatly appreciated!!!
Worth it, the decor and vibe, the punk rock art, worth every second of our drive from Philly.
Alysha, Thank YOU!!! For joining us and taking the time to share your experience at Le Cav.
Lovely dining experience! Service was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Great atmosphere. You definitely get what you pay for!
WOW!!! Can't thank you enough for taking the time to share your feelings around our food, service and the beautiful space we call "Le Cav"
Excellent service. Food was very good except for the burned brioche which accompanied my foie gras mousse and my wife's steak tartare. The waiter remedied this but it should not have been served this way. We were also surprised that there was a charge for bread. We haven't seen this since out trip to Prague. The renovations of this restaurant ( the former Green Room) are nice making it seem warmer. However I miss the table clothes on the tables. Since they are going for a French Bistro vibe, I get it. The clientele were mixed from too casually dressed (T shirts and hoodies) to men with jackets and women dressed elegantly. We will dine here again but with lower expectations.
Thank you for your feed back. The Chef has been made aware of the experience around he Brioche, and has amended processes to ensure this does not impact further guests. We do not have a dress code intentionally, to be more accessible to a wider audience over all. The feeling of approachability , fun with great service and atmosphere ( with a 5 Star cuisine) is our goal. We look forward to seeing you as the days get longer and the weather warmer!!
Absolutely beautiful physical space. Steak frites were delicious! Nice wine selection and very good martinis. Only 'complaint' was that our side salads came out with our Steak frites instead of as a separate course (our server did apologize for this). We can't wait to go back and try some other items from the menu.
The Le Cav team thanks you for sharing your feed back with us. We look forward to see you again soon!
Nice romantic atmosphere and the food was great, highly recommended!
Jeff, So glad you loved our space and food as much as we do!! Looking forward to serving you and yours in the future.
Breakfast was delicious and the room is beautiful in the sunlight.
So nice to see the old Green Room restaurant updated & have a new energetic vibe. Beautiful bar area too. A really special place that is a treasure in Wilmington. Welcome Le Cavalier at The Green Room!
My husband wanted to eat here for his birthday. Since it was a special occasion & it can be very loud with less desirable tables in the middle of the room, I went out of my way *several times* to request and confirm that we were reserved for a particular table along the wall. I literally went into the restaurant a full week before to look at the tables and speak with someone in person who confirmed the specific table. I told them it was my husband’s birthday and she noted that in the reservation. I called again the day before our reservation to confirm the table and spoke to the Maitre d who confirmed the side banquette table, a nicer table where we’d be able to sit close. We were all set!
Never once did they say they would give away that table to another party as they desired/needed.
The Green Room would not have done this nor would other establishments, especially after all the confirming. I was reluctant to chose this dining spot for a special occasion because of the noise level in this tiled floor room. However, I felt good about the specific banquette table allowing us to sit side-by-side to hear well and share food easily.
Items we asked for were not delivered. A wait person is not “assigned” to a table. The staff works together (good & not so good.) Ex: fish entree delivered without the lemon we previously requested. Drinks took a long time to come out. We had to ask several servers for the same item several times.
The waitress, although pleasant, could not describe an appetizer and we selected a dessert based on her vague description... :( What surprised me the MOST, was that no one came over to us during the meal to offer a quick acknowledgement of the table gaff and that they would do their best to make sure that would not happen again. NOTE: We made a reservation here once before for the bar. They verbally confirmed “the bar,” but did not tell us it would be for the narrow table across from the bar, at an odd height near speaker?????
Had an amazing night at Le Cav!! Food is as good as DE has to offer and can rival restaurants in major cities. The service is attentive, but not overbearing, wine list is smart and thought provoking - well priced and not an overwhelming amount of choices (probably due to covid), cocktails were perfectly executed and the room decor is jaw-dropping beautiful.
This was my 2nd time here. The food has been amazing both times and the craft cocktails are even better. Highly recommend!
Really enjoyed this place! The ambiance of this restaurant is fabulous and the food was absolutely delish! Next time I will be returning in a cocktail dress and heels.
The menu is too limited, it requires greater variety. I won’t return based only on the menu. While my entree was delicious, I was sick after I returned home.
The service was outstanding. Our waiter was extremely professional.
The most beautiful atmosphere.. great food
So happy you enjoyed our atmosphere and food, hope to see you very soon!
Tasty Food, Friendly Staff, Great place! Nice to meet with friends for drink and brunch. The only unpleasant thing is to see the strange paintings on the walls which absolutely don't match with the beauty of the restaurant.
One of the most relaxing and enjoyable dinners I have ever had. Our waiter was so polite and respectful. He answered all our questions and recommended some great food. We will be back.....soon!
I really wanted to like the restaurant. It is beautiful inside. The service was poor. They forgot our drink order. They did not know the code to the restrooms. And were not attentive even though the dining room was just about empty. The food was also not very good. The Bronzino was OK, the fish was fine, but to put the heavy butter sauce on it just seems a travesty.
I understand they are trying to do something different with the cuisine, but I suggest it’s not working. I was excited to go here for the first time,But unfortunately I won’t be back. Please change the menu and have someone run the restaurant who can manage and train the wait staff. Thank you.
