Little Sister - Downtown
relaxed social environment that feels more residential than
restaurant, as if you"re being invited into the Chef Tin's home.
Little Sister's menu showcases Chef Tin's take on one of the more
interesting and rich collisions of food and culture that was borne out
of the European colonization of Southeast Asia. Dishes blend and
balance the spices and flavors of Southeast Asia with French
techniques and Dutch and British colonial influences. The menu is
continually and progressively evolving, reflecting inspiration and the
seasons. Scott Young along with Chef Tin curates the restaurant's wine and beverage program
with a focus on intriguing labels, both domestically and from around
the world. Craft beer selection includes special batches from The
Brewery at Abigaile, brewed only for the restaurant.
Never get seated on time as the reservation!!
The food is spotty - the pork was tough in the noodles with pork and shrimp dish. The rice paper shrimp rolls were bland. The orange chicken was delicious - a mixed bag. Much too noisy.
Made reservation for 9.15 and got seated at 9.45. We needed to wait another 30 minutes for our food to come out, including the drinks.
Loved this place! Promptly greeted and seated. We squeezed in to a very tight spot because the space is compact and bustling in a good way. There's a lot to choose from on the menu so the waiter was great about pointing us to the most popular dishes and they weren't all the most expensive - which seems to be the de facto at some restaurants when asking for guidance. The ONLY thing I would change is the food ALL comes out at the same time. They tell you this - that it will come out as it's prepared- but it was EVERYTHING at once and the steak dish and a couple others weren't as good by the time we got to it. The table was also too small to manage everything so we found ourselves stacking plates and having trouble setting our wine and water glasses down. I'd order a few things and ask for the menu for the next phase of your meal. Food was fantastic and the vibe is upbeat and fun. Would def go back.
Service was terrible. First they sat me down on a broken booth seat. They continued to sit people in the broken seat, despite knowing it was broken. Second, we order two appetizer cold dishes which came a good 10-15 minutes after our hot entrees. Packed all the food onto tiny tables.
We had reservation at 12:30pm, and arrived by 12:22pm, but we still had to wait outside of the door for nearly 45mins. The food were very good, but service is very slow, our waiter was very helpful with explaining the menu and gave us suggestions but it took him more than 15mins to bring us anything when we asked.
I love this restaurant so, so much. The food is absolutely delivered. If you like bland food, then this is not your place. I love the rich flavors of this cuisine.
Got there, sat down after being moved from our original table, and ordered our food. After waiting for 45 minutes our server came over and asked if we got our appetizers. We hadn’t gotten anything and our server went to check and see. Apparently they lost our order, so we just left. Terrible service.
I loved the place. The food was very good, great service and the feel is really nice.
My friend and I were also surprised by the price. We expected it to be much more expensive
Delicious Vietnamese. Good service. It wasn’t very busy so noise level was fine. Might be a bit on the expensive side but worth it. All our dishes including dessert were delicious.
The food and service was very good.
The tables are very close and private conversations were held outside the restaurant.
Amazing Amazing!!! Earl was our waiter and he was fantastic! I am Vietnamese American and I have to say the food was fantastic! I love the flavors and the perfect portion and ambience as well.
I will definitely be back.
We have been to Little sister before but this time we tried the Pho and loved it.
We are from Australia and always visit this restaurant when in LA. One of our favorites, great food and location.
I've been there a few times before and LOVED their food...but this time there were too many twiggy herbs in it that I had to keep picking out of my mouthfuls, the service was a bit slow, and one of our noodle entrees arrived when we all pretty much done eating; so I was disappointed this time.
The food we ordered were all pretty flavorful and delicious. Having said that, I’ve had really delicious Vietnamese cuisine at much more reasonable prices. So I can’t say that it was good value for the money.
It does provide a more upscale ambience than your typical Vietnamese restaurant — so it’s an option for dates / client meals / special occasions.
I would eat here everyday is I lived in the neighborhood! Great place!
Had two kids and four adults. Restaurant made us aware that they normally charge $50 per guest (even for kids) for a party of 6 or more (ridiculous). The waiter was kind to waive that rule for us.
We ordered crab congee, 2 shaky beefs, bread platter, 2 lemongrass chicken, and pork and coconut rice (not spicy for kids, which the waiter suggested ).
We only received one lemongrass chicken and the kids entree had spicy chilies in it, so they couldn’t eat it. I was disappointed with the bread platter. The bread was not fresh and hot and the paté butter was not a hot dip like at LSXO.
Overall, the waitress was very nice and had a great personality. I feel the food, staff, and cooks do a better job the original (LSXO).
Very complex flavors -- interesting. Many dishes rather spicy, even when we asked for low spiciness.
Need to park in one of the public parking lots nearby -- $7 on Sunday.
Weird artwork with guns on wall.
Was ok. Below expectations
It was great and enjoyable
Terrific food -- the Banh Mi sandwich with pork was fantastic. Cool atmosphere was a nice respite on a hot LA day. Highly recommended!
My dinner at Little Sister was the best meal out I have had in a very long time. To say the food was delicious is a huge understatement. Everything we ordered was tasty and the portions were perfect for two people.
So flavorful & delicious! Large portions.
We actually arrived 10-15mins past of reservation time, but the host allowed us to get a seat right away even with the crowd building. No waiting. The service was great, very attentive. The quality of the food was great. It was just a bit pricey, but that’s DTLA. Overall very good.
The food is really good, it came out quick, parking is just a block away.
Space is very noisy, but outside of that everything was great.
Service was really really slow.
First time here, loved it, food was amazing, very fresh ingredients and the taste sensation was second to none. Glad I found this hidden gem, will be back 👍👍
We were very happy with our experience at Little Sister, from the ambience to the service to the food, it was a trifecta of goodness! Highlights were the small bites of fried okra as well as the beef tendon salad, super yummy! Definitely coming back here again.
Decided to grab a quick lunch at this cute little spot dtla. The menu had several options; from spring rolls to Ban mi to various noodle dishes. My wife was looking for something with less spice and heat so our server pointed out an option. He also shared the chef was very particular and would not alter a dish to a customers taste #ego. Found that notion a bit ridic. but gave it a shot. The dish still came out to spicy for my wife to enjoy but we had also ordered the dumplings which she then ate as her meal. The server also was nice enough to bring a side of jasmine rice so as to make her a complete meal. I enjoyed my food but won’t return since the chef is not willing to alter his dish to please a customer.
Found the food creative and quality and execution very good...loved the fried chicken dish and the sea bass as well, shaky shaky beef and beef roll was pretty decent too..papaya salad have had better at ruen pair in thai town and at luv2eat on sunset hollywood and wifey does a killer rendition at home!!
I have wanted to try this place for some time, but people wouldn’t go with me because the menu is a little different. DON’T let that stop you!!! The food is amazing and the service was great. Only thing to note is the fried lobster dish seemed to be more presentation than food, but everything else was great.
This a great Vietnamese restaurant! The food was really good and authentic, the food was tasty and the ingredients were fresh. I recommend it!
Came here with my parents on August 25th and we arrived 13 minutes earlier than our reservation and were seated right away. Waitress took a long time to drop menu and take our order. My vietnamese parents said the food was delicious and tasted authentic. It was pretty pricey considering you could get the exact same dishes in Westminster or Alhambra for half the price but the ambiance is nice. More for a date night or hanging out with friends and drinking, not so much for family. Parking is hard to find but that is LA for you. Overall is was pretty good but not sure if I’d come again. Maybe on a special occasion.
Food was amazing. Our server was very nice. Food came out fast. The only complaint i have is that the host asked us to leave rather rude.
My friend and I got carried away in conversation after we paid our bill and the empty dishes were cleared up from the table. I understand, the place is busy and they have reservations and people on the waiting list. So if you are done with your meal, move on. We simply didn’t realized we were taking a long time to empty the table. So we needed that reminder. However, a better approach would have been to ask us if there was anything else we would like. The answer would have been “no” since we already paid. Then the host could have asked if we wouldn’t mind clearing the table since he had people waiting and other reservations coming. As always, is not what you say is how you say it.
Great service, great food! Loved the noodles, beef and snapper!!
Will be back soon
Came with my family to celebrate my cousin going away to college and my aunt birthday ; was expecting to be a good experience but when the server came and half the menu wasn't available it was a disappointment.
Always delicious. The flavors are exceptional. Little sister has perfected their Southeastern Asian fusion.
