   Lovina never disappoints. The food changes seasonally and is always fresh and full of flavor. Sitting outside on the patio creates a lovely atmosphere. Service is always top notch. Can’t wait to return again!

   GOOD: lasagna, beef bolognese, polenta bites, beet tartar All of these were very good or excellent. The polenta bites were the surprise standout for us. The beet tartar was more interesting than expected and the pastas were both very enjoyable. OK: fresh ricotta with crostinis, gazpacho The ricotta itself was quite tasty but we nearly broke our teeth on the crostinis. They were ridiculously crunchy. We should have asked for replacements in hindsight. The gazpacho tasted quite nice and it was a larger than expected serving but it was exactly the color of Pepto Bismol. That was quite a turn off. BAD: seating options, service, meal pacing, goat mac & cheese. We requested outside seating for 6 and got seated right next to the (awful) band playing at the restaurant next door. My chair was 2 ft from the drummer. The management of the two restaurants really ought to negotiate a better arrangement/location for the band. It was too loud to talk to our table mates and we asked to be moved. We were moved to the only other table that could accommodate 6 people…their private dining room. It has to be the worst table in the restaurant. No view, terrible ambiance, and stuffy since the windows wouldnt open. I’d rather sit in the parking lot out back to be honest. Our waiter seemed to be *very* inexperienced and not a good communicator about the menu items. He checked on us very infrequently even though the were there more than 2.5 hrs. I’m sure the awkward table location played a role here…out of sight, out of mind. The pacing was way off. Our meal was more than 2.5 hrs and that was only 2 courses (apps and main)! We started with apps for the table. Then half of us ordered soups/salads and main and the others just had mains. They brought the soup with the main course! Now we had to decide if we eat the cold soup while the mains got cold or hot pasta while the soup got warm. Overall, too many things were off to consider this an enjoyable meal with our friends.

   Way overpriced mediocre food. Our server was amazing but that was about it. We took my boyfriend here for his 50th birthday. They didn’t do anything special despite knowing about it. His “tenderloin” was 2 small medallions and the gnocchi was cold and bland. I had the cod, which was dripping in rib bones. When asked why they don’t debone their fish, they said “all fish have bones”. His choice of dessert was chocolate flan cake…not flan, not good. All in all, our server and the company were the only good things about what should have been a special birthday dinner.

   We had a lovely dinner on the patio. The polenta was especially delicious….also the arugula salad, veggie lasagna, gazpacho etc! Serious was great and our dog was welcome too!

   One hopes for a great meal when the Open Table reviews show a restaurant as "exceptional" but the food was anything but. Our party of four found it to be expensive and bland, across the table. More of an Italian restaurant than a California cuisine restaurant.

    In a big city, this would be a "neighborhood gem." Small with local influence, great ingredients and featuring wines from not far away. Nice folks too. Have been going there for years now; always nice to drop back in. low key quality.

    My husband and I come here for breakfast every Sunday & we love it. The week prior we even went to the Calistoga Pioneer Cemetery & found the grave site for Lovina. She had been in the Donner party as a child & survived.

    During a heat wave (103*) there was a power outage in Calistoga. Lovina was one of few places which wisely had a generator! Thank you air conditioning! Great service. Interesting menu. Prices fitting the location. Cute restaurant.

    Went for brunch on Saturday and it was great! The food was delicious (I had the duckie benedict, which I highly recommend). I also got a refreshing cocktail (don't remember what the name of it was anymore). The patio was really nice, minus the occasional loud motorcyclist (which isn't their fault).

    This place doesn’t have a large menu but OMG !!! The food they do have is amazing. Went here for anniversary dinner and was blown away by the strawberry salad and pasta. The bread as an appetizer is a must. Piece of heaven. Don’t come to Calistoga without stopping here for dinner. Great staff as well!

    The salad was super salty, specially the pickled onions. The vegan pasta was salty, portion was small for the price & the risotto was bland w 3 scallops at $42. My husband only ate the scallops cooked rice risotto had no flavor. Not worth the money. I was shocked they charged us $40 to open a magnum wine when they use the same wine glasses. The host was very nice though. That was the only positive.

    The service at Lovina was outstanding. They have plenty of vegetarian options and a wonderful wine list. The patio was the perfect place to sit and have dinner. I can’t wait to go back!

    Our 40th anniversary, looking for vegan and/or vegetarian options. The food was good but a bit too pricey for the value. I also believe we were overcharged by $18 but didn’t realize until we were back at our motel.

    We had dinner here in a Saturday evening and our server was great! Food was 50-50. Drunken Mac and cheese was delicious. Roasted chicken was ok but the risotto was cold. Steak was good but very small portion. Gluten free lasagna was returned and we do not recommend that dish.

    Food was sooo good and the manager was super friendly. The outside patio is DARLING... unfortunately for me, I made our rez for inside. Totally fine but cannot compare with the patio charm. VERY ALLERGY FRIENDLY... gluten-free and vegan options-- scallop risotto, gluten-free mushroom lasagna and vegan cheesecake were fantastic!!! Thank you, Lovina! We will highly recommend!

    The food was good, but the Sunday Brunch menu didn't offer too many selections. The mixed greens served was literally just that and it was the only side dish offered. The jalepano bloody mary was also good but served in the smallest glass I have ever seen one served in and not near as spicy as the name would suggest. It is a lovely restaurant and the service was great but it wouldn't be my first choice, at least not for Brunch.

    I have never had a bad meal here. The staff is amazing, great wine list, incredible food. Try the beet tartar they just added for the summer, absolutely delicious! I eat here all the time, the chicken is one of my favorite meals. Go, you won’t be disappointed. Yum!
