Offering a menu of classic bistro favorites with unique and flavorful twists, Marlowe Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio, who earned three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her cooking at Cortez, created a mix of snacks, appetizers, mains and sides made up of the kind of food she loves to eat when she’s not working.
What Insiders Are Saying
We’re still on the lookout for a Soma go-to, near the ballpark. Marlowe is a base hit but not a home run. (Clever, we know.) That's what we're here for.
Good food and friendly neighborhood vibe. Too noisy and a bit more expensive than your average neighborhood joints.
Don’t waste the stomach space, time or calories!!! Service was subpar and only outdone by the mediocre food.
Brought my friend here for a birthday brunch. The food was amazing and love the ambiance
Best fun before a Giants game - we love sitting at the bar deliberately- great food great cocktail heart-starters
Our meals were absolutely delicious and the restaurant was such a good vibe with the decor. I was so excited to eat at Marlowe as I had been recommended several times. However, the host was beyond rude and very short when speaking with me about making a reservation. I figured that was just the bad egg of the group. However, the odd thing was my mother in law ordered the burger without horseradish aoili and requested another aoili be put on. The server said she would check with the chef, but didn't come back for over 10 mins,, which would have been fine if she was busy but we could see her just standing by the restrooms. When she did come back, she notified us that we couldn't switch out the condiment as it would "impact the integrity of the burger". I'm all for picky chefs being particular about their dishes, but then the server us just put mustard and ketchup on it?! Anyways, restaurant was cool and I'd come back, but just an odd experience!
Always a good spot for dinner with great food. Searing is tight and close to each other.
I normally love Marlowe. It's my go-to restaurant for taking out of town friends. But on this occasion it just didn't meet up with expectations. It was incredibly hot - there was no air conditioning or cooling. And the waiters just weren't as attentive or friendly as they normally are (perhaps as they too were suffering in the heat). I wish I'd known in advance there was no air conditioning as I was bringing out of town friends and they were not coping with the heat.
good food, good service, good ambiance and comfort level; however extremely loud and everyone was sweating in the atypical 100 degree weather.
Food was good. Service was good except for water refills. The restaurant was crazy hot. Uncomfortably so that we almost left without dining. No reason for it to be that stuffy and unventilated for a restaurant of this caliber. If you’re going to charge $30 for seared salmon, I shouldn’t be roasting as well.
One of our best meals on our San Fran weekend! Love the decor. Tasty cocktails. Both the chicken and burger were fantastic!! Attentive staff that knew the menu
Great service, food and total experience! We were early and they were able to seat us anyway! Once seated, the server answered questions and gave us a time to settle in and figure out what we wanted. Once food came out, we were checked-in on but not hovered over.
Food was fantastic as usual, as were the beverages!!
Looking forward to the next visit!!
Marlowe always has excellent food and it’s so close to Caltrain
Fantastic steak salad!
That’s about all I can say. It’s ok, not great and cacophonous!!!
Celebrating a new job! Super tasty and great vibe!
The burger and deviled eggs melt in your mouth! Delish!
We enjoyed the food. Hamburger sooo good and the deviled eggs. Love the wine selection by the glass. Service was good, but not intrusive. Cute, comfortable environment.
Super cute and fun food and environment. We went for lunch so I had the open face deviled egg sandwich which is a totally awesome idea and delicious. The food is so pretty and tasty and the restaurant is hip and trendy. Of course it's a little pricey but not unexpected in SF. The brussel sprout chips are a must!
Decent brunch friendly service, weird but tasty Bloody Mary. Definitely get the burger.
Got together this past weekend with some good friends for brunch at Marlowe after a visit to the sfmoma. It was my third visit although the first two were business dinner outings around 6 and 9 months ago. The dinners were great -- super service, nice menu choices and fantastic cocktails. The food was nicely paired and the ingredients were fresh and good quality. Brunch was consistent with this too -- a good selection of choices, consistent modern American style across the board, with interesting but straightforward flavors and combinations. I was a bit surprised, though, when there were just four or so egg dishes, that the one I chose was not available and there was no alternative suggested. I ordered my second choice -- mushroom polenta with a poached egg. It had great flavors and good quality ingredients (what's not to love about truffle oil?), nicely creamy, and plenty of mushroom chunks and fresh arugula, although very rich and bit over salted for my brunch tastes. It would do better for me as a heavier dinner side or vegetarian main.
On the ambience front, it's a beautiful and comfortable space. Expect loud, energetic music that matches the energy of the staff.
Marlowe is a safe choice -- and it seems to be becoming a standby fixture in the soma dining scene for business outings and weekend brunches alike.
delicious as always--sat at the bar and had a great meal and attentive service.
A very high tab for sub par food and service, the only good thing was the dessert. The ribeye was tough and over cooked and the chicken had too much bacon on it. We went to celebrate getting married at city hall but no one acknowledged this and the service didn’t make up for it. Not a memorable place and it was unfortunate for such a special night for us. I’ll never go back.
Way too loud
Remembered it fondly from earlier location. Lived up to our high expectations. Loved everything about it except the noise level. Yikes! Hard to have a conversation, but will still come back.
Came here with 4 coworkers for lunch. I was looking forward to it as I’ve often frequented The Cavalier, one of their sister restaurants. The menu is on the smaller side, which can pose issues if you go with folks who have more restrictive diets, but for what they do have they definitely deliver on. Oysters were fresh and tasty, the burger really is something special, and the cocktails were great. The restaurant is bright with tons of natural light, the compact arrangement makes for a lively atmosphere, but make sure you have a reservation, or you maybe waiting a while.
Fabulous food, atmosphere, service. loved it
Excellent service and the food was delicious! Great drinks too!
Need some sound muffling material in the restaurant. Tables much too close to one another.
Great, had the chicken sandwich and it was a home run, service was attentive without bring overbearing, we were able to have a pleasant conversation the entire time, do while busy at lunchtime, noise level was fine. Will definitely go back.
I loved the Poulet Vert, and I don't normally order chicken. The asparagus and spinach were delicious. The fava bean hummous was a touch underseasoned. Nice wine list. Reasonable prices and selection.
Went on Mother's Day so did feel a little rushed. Servers were helpful but we were told we only had 10 minutes to put our order in since the kitchen was going to close
Celebrated Mother’s Day a bit earlier. Everything was great...food, service, and atmosphere. We all loved the food...a dozen raw oysters, baked oysters all around, Caesar salad, bone marrow, pork chops, salmon and fries/Brussels sprouts on the sides. All so delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server Dave was great and recommended the crepe brûlée and Loretta’s Vacherin. Both did not disappoint. A perfect way to end the night. Thanks again!
Marlowe was a first time experience. The food and drinks were good but pricey. The deafening noise was a turnoff and the tables were so close together; it was difficult to get in and out of the banquet. The appetizers left me cold. A deviled egg and oyster appetizer consisted of just one small portion of each. I will not be coming back again.
Food was good though very few options for main course 5-6?, some of them mainly staples
Tough to say I wouldn’t recommend but that is the reality. I’ve been here several times and the “it” factor is a little less each time. The major problem this time was that my burger bin was stale (very stale...like tough and cardboard like) and the fries were lukewarm. It’s still a fine place but there are others out there with more attention to detail.
Noise level was terrible - tables were very close together and made it impossible to enjoy our meal
Lovely place to enjoy dinner. Food was great and the space is really beautiful.
Our server was GREAT!! He checked on us often, kept our drinks full, was very pleasant! The food was served pretty quick and tasted wonderful.
Perfect spot for a birthday lunch. Menu offered plenty of creative options. Their burger and fries are tops. Nice vibe and excellent service too. ‘This is a place I’ll frequent. Don’t miss the funny gallery wall near the restroom
