Matchbox - Penn Quarter
Very good, really enjoyed, would definitely come back
Great food and service. Parking not so easy, (but that's DC).
Great brunch
Delicious and satisfying burger and fries.
Great Pizza and Sandwiches, it was not busy, but that may be because of Covid restrictions.
We had a nice meal. I would recommend to a friend.
The staff is always so friendly and helpful at Matchbox and our young server was no exception. They seemed a bit understaffed so she was very busy! The only downsides were that I chose the table near the door, forgetting that last night I chose that spot, it was summertime and this time, it was pretty cold out so it was freezing whenever people went in and out, but that was my fault! The place was lively, so was pretty loud at the tables by the bar area - and it was St. Patrick's Day after all. But that's good - at least things are opening up again in DC and we were safe with the tables very far apart and ventilation is great!
It was my first time to eat at Matchbox and it was great! My friend and I had a wonderful experience. The weather was really good so we chose the outdoor seating. The food tastes really great and we enjoyed people watching at the patio too. The level of noise is just right. The only thing that I can complain of is that because we are outside, maybe the waiter cannot see us right away and it takes some time for us to get attended to and we have to wait for someone to go out first. But over all, we loved it!
Good was great, limited brunch menu though! Crab soup wasn't all that!
Good time with friends
Matchbox servers and staff were EXCELLENT - our server (female) was great, very attentive and checked on us numerous times. The only issues I had (but did not complain about) were that the music was really loud (the place was empty, but conversation was difficult due to having to yell over the music), and the air conditioning was cold - but I can understand that since we were inside (due to the rainstorm) - and adequate ventilation is essential with the pandemic.
Took myself out to brunch on election day. Peaceful, good food and drinks.
The menu seemed limited and they didn’t have a stocked bar. Kind of disappointed.
Great food in a convenient location. Love the 3-6-9 burgers! I will be back for sure.
Our overall experience was great. Our waitress Damiana was wonderful and took very good care of us. Our food was ok, but not great. The fries that came with the steak frites were a little undercooked and my friend’s brussels and quinoa bowl had very little brussels and quinoa and way too much onion. However, our cocktails and dessert were great!
The food was wonderful. The service was okay. Could have been a bit better. But all in all a good experience
Love trying a new cuisine
I was surprised by how poor the service was this time as they’re usually great. Maybe it was an off night?
Lunch. Obviously not fully staffed. Took a while to get our food but it was hot and fresh
The restaurant was severely understaffed. We were never served. We didn’t even get drinks after 50 minutes, decided to patronize another establishment.
Good food! The waiter messed up my order and brought the wrong items, but once it was corrected it was a good meal. Good service, nice outdoor seating. Worth it for good food at a good price with hearty portions.
Stick to what they are known for... mini burgers and pizza. Its best thing on the menu and wont disappoint.
Even in these trying times, Matchbox was outstanding. They took very good care in making sure that everything was clean and sanitary. The sliders and the Porky Fig pizza was just what was needed for lunch for 2. I can't wait to return!
Service was excellent, as always. The mini burgers were a little undercooked, red/pink when asked for medium-well, and a bit skimpy in the onion straws but other than that, everything was great!
Matchbox is usually a great place to go - other than the occasional loud group of diners nearby, or the music being turned up to loud for quiet conversation, you can't go wrong. The servers are so friendly and provide great service and the food and drinks are tops! Prices in Penn Quarter are high but that's just DC. They are keeping the place very clean and socially distancing inside and offer outside dining as well. Reservations required for contact tracing but it's never a problem because people are still very nervous about going out at all. I feel safe though.
Matchbox is always a good spot to hang and catch up with friends - great drinks and love their pizza, sliders, etc. It is a big pricey for such a casual place. I treated my friend and $120 for us to have a couple drinks, 1 sandwich and an appetizer ... but then again, this is DC.
We live in challenging times. But what I witnessed while I was dining here was a bit shocking. First let me say our server was great. What was so troubling was that the host didn't wear their facemask over their mouth and nose. It limply hung just over their mouth. Other guests were allowed to roam around the restaurant with absolutely no facemask and front of house staff kept removing their mask to speak to the kitchen over the expo line.
I probably won't be back sadly. This pandemic is not over.
Hands down best pizza in DC and the Caesar salad is the best I’ve ever tasted. Fresh ingredients that burst with flavor in every bite.
We came here after plans falling through at another restaurant. We made reservations but arrived before the reservation time and were seated immediately. We were greeted right away by the general manager and the server. The food was absolutely amazing and the unlimited mimosas tasted great as well! I would highly recommend their brunch. I was so impressed!
The food and service are excellent! Great spot after a show!
Good. A little more “chainy” feeling than I expected. Food was good though!
This is my second time giving this new location a try. I ordered a small pepperoni pizza....for $19, unfortunately, the taste and size was REALLY NOT worth the price. The crust was thin, which I like, but, gives off too much of the burnt crust taste...and it was somewhat dry, don't know if there wasn't enough sauce. I do remember, and LOVED, Matchbox when it was on H Street. Again, unfortunately, the menu and quality of food has changed. ....compared to the whole pepperoni thin crust pizza, that I purchased from Fuel, last week....for the SAME price - the value and quality was better.
Just overall disappointing. We usually love matchbox, but service was awful, food was cold, and just a bad experience overall
Nice options for lunch with colleagues and they are able to accommodate large groups which is nice. Moderately priced so you will stay in budget and service was fine.
The food is good, but I hate the new “brunchbox.” Items need to be able to be ordered a la carte, like in the past. It is difficult for many to eat enough to justify a $31.50 flat fee for brunch.
First time there ! Server was nice and host was very accommodating ! But the food wasn’t that good don’t order the paSta it had a bland taste ! Wasn’t tasty at all ! My husband ordered the shrimp which was good .
Fantastic unlimited brunch deal!
This was my first time at this restaurant. The service was slow. My cocktail tasted like it was all sugar water with no alcohol. It was so intensely sweet I could barely drink it. I had a fried chicken sandwich. It tasted like it was cooked in oil past it’s prime. Tasted stale. The fries were also uninspiring. We were going to a concert at Capital One Arena after dinner. My son who isn’t even close to being a foodie commented the food was no better than what we could have had at the arena. Unfortunately I didn’t disagree with him.
Average, very noisy
Terrific night with the wife, the food and service was terrific. Got seated on time which is a plus. Will return.
