The hostess told me that my reservation was for 6:30pm, in which I produced 3 emails with confirmation for 6:45. I was then told that they were not accepting walk-ins and after 10 mins, they cancel the reservation if you are not present. I was not made aware of that ten minute time frame, as I arrived at 7:01 for my 6:45 appointment. I received an email 3 minutes before walking in with a “thank you” from open table for using my reservation which I hadn’t arrived for just yet. Me and my family were finally accommodated with a reservation for 7:40 pm. When we arrived for the second time, we were not greeted and the table we were shown was still dirty. Our server provided excellent service and the food and drinks were great. However, the front desk staff were less than inviting and accommodating.
Excellent service and food. It would help if the music would be turned a bit lower since its hard to have a business conversation.
A wonderful time was had by all. Love this location and the food was excellent
we waited about 1 hour and 15 min for our food. the waitress kept apologizing but indicate dit was a common problem with the kitchen
We have to come to Matchbox every time we are in the DC area. It's our favorite pizza. The staff was friendly and fast even with our crowd of 6 being a little overwhelming due to not having seen each other in over 18 months. The experience was all we have come to expect from Matchbox!
Had dinner there with friends. Beer list pretty good. Wine list good but they were out of all Chardonnay. Wife had a pizza kid had a pizza very good. Chimichurri steak is phenomenal. Too bad the staff isn’t more on their game early and get five stars. Pretty much have to make a big deal to get service. Still plan on going back
The food wasn’t that good it’s usually good but at the penn quarter location. Service was ok our server was new so I understand but she was really nice. We got bottomless brunch and the way it worked was extremely confusing and you pay $25 for bottomless mimosas but they charge you a penny for each glass after the first bottle which is weird if you already paid the base price
Nice restaurant- food was good. I did call ahead and ask for a birthday dessert for my mom’s birthday. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
Overall good experience good place to meet with friends
We live Matchbox. Like all restaurants they have been impacted by covid. Staffing is tough for them. Our waiter was very nice and helpful in spite of having difficult customers in her section. She did a great job!!!!!
Great food, Great service would definitely return
We loved the ambiance. Will come again. The waiter Cameron was fantastic. Took care of us and had even to give warm coffee and warm milk which I appreciated.
Father’s Day was the occasion, our server was lacking for sure, she had no apron on, her shirt wasn’t tucked in, she wasn’t attentive, she lacked a sense of urgency. The manager also was the same, we had to flag him down just to pay our check. He also wasn’t attentive.
Team Team meet and great
I will be back. My family and I totally enjoyed the food and the experience. We looking forward to trying their all day brunch.
As I said before, go for the food not the service. Service at this location. Is non-existent.
Good for brunch time, service, ambient and food excellent.
45 minutes to get a basic on-the-menu cocktail.
That said, the host, and server were attentive while I waited, and acted quickly when I ordered my remaining items to go.
I typically love Matchbox at Pentagon City but yesterday the food was off and our waitress appeared to have a hangover.
The food was just ok. The menu has changed a lot of the years some of the favorite things aren't there any more
Everything was great, I’m just not a fan of the new bread they’re using for their French toast it is wayyyy to hard other than that I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and food!!
We had a very nice time at Matchbox. The pizza is the best!
This place was good but super overpriced. They discontinued their happy hour and small cocktails were $14. They also didn’t honor our request from our reservation to be seated outside.
Not good experience - by a long shot.
We arrived on time and were seated promptly, but the service ended there. We were seated in the bar (the restaurant’s choice, not ours); we had reservations through Open Table. We waited at our table for over 20 minutes without anyone coming by. Another table of two had to get up and ask a server to come over. After seeing this, and giving them some time to “notice” us, I had to do the same. When a waiter finally came by, I asked what the problem was and he assured us we would be cared for…so we ordered a bottle of wine. When it was delivered, we ordered our food, and we never saw him again.
Our food, salads to be followed by entrees and side dishes, was delivered all at once by two giggling women who we never saw before or after. I queried them about the sudden delivery of all our food order, but they just left without comment.
We ate our food with NO ONE stopping by to ask anything about the meal, such as if we needed anything (salt, pepper, and extra napkins would have been nice). When we finished, we sat for 20ish minutes before I decided to go get someone. I stood at the host/hostess podium for several minutes before I was “noticed.” I asked that my bill be delivered by the manager.
A male came to our table (presumably the manager) with our bill and explained that a bartender had not shown up for work. Since we did not make reservations at the bar, this make little difference to me.
In short, the only way to get service at this restaurant is if you physically chase down a “server.” The food was passable, but given the grief suffered to get it, I recommend finding another place. COVID-19 was not the issue - this is just a poorly managed restaurant.
Great food, great service.
Menu is limited and took a while for us to get any attention but it wasn’t as terrible as TGIF experience that I had previously
Overall pretty good good beer, had a salad with chicken which was ok
We initially were seated waiting about 15 mins then moved to the bar and were served instantly.
Our server this particular evening was horrible. Love the restaurant, don’t like the server we had. He got an attitude when we pointed out that he kept bringing us the wrong drinks and food. This happened multiple times, mind you.
I go to Matchbox for the food not the service. They are my go to restaurant for pizza (Matchbox Meat). If you go there keeping that in mind you will be happy.
No carbonation for the soft drinks. Ordered a grilled chicken salad received a salad with no chicken.
Was brought out a piece of dry unflavored piece of chicken which I had to cut up my own self
Crab cakes were amazing!
Service and food were excellent. All staff were wearing masks, and customers were seated away from each other. I will definitely go back.
Great place for lunch staff is great!! And the food and cocktails are awesome!
A bit pricey for a casual dining experience with drinks.
Great food and service. Hard to decide what to get!
Tables were not thoroughly sanitized between guests sitting outside. We ended up helping the hostess wipe down table and chairs. We had to submit our order twice due to system issues and then one guest’s food (chicken pasta) came 15 min after all other guests.
Fabulous brunch date.
Matchbox has not updated their menus on Open Table. So when we got to the restaurant thinking we were about to enjoy their traditional brunch menu, we found out they do not do it anymore. The new brunch menu is HORRIBLE compared to the new.
