Enjoyed the steak frites. It made me think about days in France. The meat was well-seasoned and served as requested. Frites were natural cut shoestring potatoes. And yes, there is a second serving of steak frites.
Fantastic as always. Love this place. So consistent.
Been to Paris? This is just steak and frites. No menu. You're asked how you want your steak cooked, they write it on the table and that's all you have to do! You get a salad, steak and fries. Their wine list is short, but good. Service is great.
The food at Medium Rare was great. The steak and fries were perfect. All accompanying dishes excellent. However, I went there with a date to relax and chat but the music was played at deafening levels. If I want to go to a club, I'll go to a club. It spoilt what was a great evening. I don't mind some background music but keep the volume level way down.
Excellent value for the price. Not the best cut of steak, but still very tasty. Fries are a bit soggy and could be crisper.
Great concept--just salad, fries, and steak (with sauce). All was delicious, and service was friendly. It's a bit loud, and atmosphere is a little like a warehouse. Wouldn't have minded the ability to sit at a nice quiet table to better enjoy the meal and company.
Just another DateNight out. We walked in and were seated immediately. The server came over quickly and took our drink orders. First course was the bread. Yummy and crusty. 2nd course was the salad. Came pre-dressed, but it was perfect. Ate the whole thing. Then the steak
Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did , GREAT PLACE ,the waiter looked tough but was a really great waiter and funny. I will be back.
Great food as always. Service was nice and quick, but when we got our steak and fries refill, both were really cold and not fresh. It’s obvious it’s been sitting out for a while. Other than that, it was all really good.
The food was ok. The wine wasn’t great, the glassware was terrible (do 1970s/80’s Italian mama restaurant style glasses make the wine taste worse?)
Great atmosphere with a straight forward menu that doesn’t disappoint. Service was good and I could really see it being an easy place for a big group of people
Good meal as usual. The addition of the portobello mushrooms was interesting. We tried them, they were good but tasted like the steak. Maybe they are cooked on the same drill? Good dessert as well (the chocolate cake).
The experience was absolutely terrible. I had a reservation and when I arrived I asked to be seated outside. The hostess said that there's no tables available and we would have to wait but were next on the list. My friends and I sat at the bar waiting for the table to be ready and we watched her seat multiple parties so I asked her if we were still on the list. She had clearly forgotten about us and said oh yes you'll be seated next. Then she rolled her eyes at me and walked away. As if that's what I deserved after waiting for an hour with a reservation and no wait in front of me when I arrived. Next the service was the slowest and least attentive service that I have EVER received. Even to get a glass of water and the bread took over 30 minutes. I had to point out that he didn't even pour water into my glass as he walked away. He was very unapologetic for the slow service. I believe he was drunk because he was very off and seemed to be struggling with everything that he did . Our food didn't come until an hour after being seated and then again our seconds took forever as well. We asked for a dessert menu and then did not see a single wait staff on the patio for almost 20 minutes. It was INSANE how not present the server was. To say the least what was supposed to be a nice meal before going out turned into an angering experience that put everyone to sleep after being there for THREE hours. No meal should ever be this long due to slow service. Would strongly recommend not going to this restaurant.
I have eaten at Medium Rare numerous times. This was not a very good experience – – that the meatwas very chewy and the Cotes du Rhône was off. The chewy meat made me lose my taste for medium rare, I turn down the second helpingp The chewy meat made me lose my taste for medium rare, I turned down the second helping - I did not see a manager or supervisor around And the waitress was stretched
Everything about this place was fine. The service was fine. Food was fine. Drinks were fine. Nothing special. I've been to the other locations and they are better than this one. I would have rather gone into DC to frequent one of those instead. Just not as lively and attentive as the other Medium Rare branches. There were also flies around where we were sitting and one flew into my friend's cocktail.
Food was absolutely amazing. Definitely have to go back soon.
Went to Medium Rare- Arlington for date night on a Friday night, after reading mixed reviews about it. It was not extremely busy when we got there- there were quite a few (7-10) open tables for 2, but for some reason we were seated directly next to another couple that was already eating- not that this was a terrible arrangement, but just seemed odd. Again, it was not very busy when we were there, the waiter gave us water to start off, and didn't come back to take drink orders until about 20 minutes later, after I had been trying to wave him down for 10. He finally took took our order and got us our drinks. The food was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by the 2nd helping of steak and fries.
The meal is well worth the 22.95 it costs, but the wine is prettttty overpriced for the small selection they have. I would've looked past this had the service been up to par for what I was expecting. I would at least try the other locations, which I have seen some more positive reviews about, but will not be returning to the Arlington location anytime soon.
Good value for money, fair offering, descent place and neighborhood
Place was dope. Wish it was all you can eat instead of just two main plates
You don’t have a lot of choice for dinner at Medium Rare - only the temperature of your steak and your dessert. But they really have perfected what they do offer. And the price is right and service excellent. We’ll definitely be back.
I ordered the Dry-aged Sirloin ($30). The first version was done medium instead of medium rare as ordered. I complained. They re-ordered. The second version was done medium rare, but both versions were only 3/4” thick. (I know because I took a portion home and measured it precisely—the first medium done version was no thicker.) No reputable steak house should serve a steak for $30 that is only 3/4” thick. I had to remind the servers to bring my glass of wine.
We took our dog Ollie and sat outside. They took a picture of him for their Instagram! The steak was quite flavorful and their house sauce was quite savory.
I've been to the Medium Rare Arlington location twice now and I really like the food. The two experiences were very different in terms of the service experience.
The first visit was great, typical service and there seemed to be a real team effort as several different servers attended our table. The second experience was not up to par. When my friend and I were sat they gave us a table way off in a corner when there was plenty of tables elsewhere in the restaurant. My friend ordered a cappuccino and they brought it to the wrong table at first. We also had to flag down the server refilling water to get a server for us after about 20+ minutes of waiting. At that point things went smoothly, we got our food timely and were checked-in on regularly. After we finished eating we probably sat for another 30 minutes before having to flag down a busser to get my friend a box and ask for the check, the box came but no check. We again had to flag down a server 10 minutes later that I think was actually a bartender to finally get our check. We were right near the door to the kitchen and it seemed that the servers all assumed that we were being taken care of.
Regardless the service at the restaurant needs to be addressed because that is not an acceptable experience. Not only from checking in on all the tables but seating people at better tables when they are available.
I will say that everyone we interacted with were extremely nice and apologetic once they realized we had been sitting for so long.
Overall I really like the restaurant and recommend you give them a try. If they can't fix the service however, I know I won't be the only person not returning.
The concept is great, good value for the price. Not a huge fan of the “special sauce” on the steak. The steak has good flavor on its own.
We enjoyed our first experience at Medium Rare. We did not fully understand the concept of TWO servins each of steak and fries. I was feeling adequately full when the server approached to provide us with the other half of the meal. My steak was slightly overdone but still delicious. We opted for the rosé sangria which was yummy but we were unaware of the $37 price tag (I don't think knowing the price upfront would have changed us ordering it.)
The ambiance was great until they turned the music up and we could no longer easily hold a conversation at the table. The service was decent, but considering there is only one menu item, that's not too difficult. The steak and fries are good, but not overly special. Since there is only one menu item, this restaurant would probably not be good for groups since there is no choice and everyone must be ready to select the one entre' on the menu. The dessert was initially served without utensils, and the coffee was likewise delivered without spoons, even after we asked for sweetener. It took us some time to get someone's attention before we could enjoy the dessert and coffee, but once we did, the cappuccino was good. Pay attention to the price and the bill. We were surprised to learn that two glasses of wine cost over $45. Yes, it appears that they billed us for more than we drank. My fault for not calling them on it, but we were just happy to get away from the loud music.
I really wanted to like this place, but at the end of the day the steak was mealy and low grade. I don’t go out for steak much and when I do I want it to taste good. It’s unfortunate because the decor and service was top notch.
One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The simplicity is refreshing and delicious.
Great experience, good food and service, everyone was very friendly
Wonderful experience - great ambiance, service and food.
Great value for the price point; average ambiance but tasty / pre-fix meal
Great for quick or slow dining.
Family and friends, or just date night.
Went there on a Saturday night. Plenty of space to sit at the bar. Quick service, good food.
We weren’t impressed. The meat was heavily seasoned with way too much black pepper, in my opinion. Also, it was covered in sauce. It would have been better if the sauce came on the side as I wasn’t a fan of the sauce, but tt was already over all the steak.
I was unaware that the menu was set, however I enjoy a good steak. Unfortunately they could not deliver on the one item they serve. In addition the salad was sad and the crispy fries get ruined with their brown sauce in which they drenched the entire plate.
The food was good, and the prix-fixe only concept is reasonably priced, but they were out of at least two of their wine offerings, and those two were their only options for those varietals. Given that there's a Giant and another wine store within a block or two, I thought it was weird that they had no substitutes available the evening we were there. We enjoyed our meal with our friends anyway, but if wine pairing is important to you, you might want to ask before you are seated.
Great food. Quick service. Only downside was the drinks were very heavy on the OJ.
It is OK but I would rather have a steak that is not already sliced. Frites were not crispy— little limp. Bread is outrageously good
Enjoyable brunch spot, not to loud but busy. I opted for the salad, medium rare steak and poached eggs, and bloody mary. All were enjoyable and flavorful. The sauce on the steak was delicious and I would buy that to use at home if it were an option.
Went for a brunch and had a fantastic medium rare steak medium with eggs and several mimosas and bloody Mary’s. Great place for brunch with friends or significant other!
