MET Back Bay
The hot chocolate was great, server and staff were nice but the food was just okay. Biscuits came out a little cold and the mains were just average. I think it'd be a cool place to grab a drink but not really somewhere I'd go for dinner again.
Solid Back Bay choice. You really cant go wrong. The food is interesting and the location cant be beat if you are shopping on Newbury St looking to rest up and have a meal or meet up with friends.
The noise level is a little up there but not so loud as to preclude conversation and some parts of the restaurant are better than others.
Great service and really good food
Lovely server, delicious brunch, good value. Highly recommend
I never dined at the Met Back Bay, as I had heard it was touristy and pretentious. I became curious to try it, however, when the reviews of the newly added Bagel Bar feature were positive. BIG MISTAKE. To celebrate my son's birthday, I made a reservation for 7 to have brunch there. We waited 45 minutes for coffee, never were told how the bagel bar menu worked and eventually had to have the manager take our orders. The waiter was completely inept, but the manager was condescending and simply rude. We ordered 4 Bloody Mary's from their "make your own" menu and every one came prepared wrong. We saw table after table receive their orders, as we sat and waited for ours, even though these parties came in much later than we did. When the food finally arrived it was cold and flavorless. I could go on, but it would just be more of the same. In the end, we were in that restaurant for 3 hours with no apology of any type. I should have stuck with my gut instinct and so should you...
Great brunch! Our server was terrific
The menu is wonderful with a variety of choices Everyone at our table was happy with their breakfast The Bloody Mary Bar was just what we wanted. Really fun place for brunch after a busy football weekend
They had a nicely sized table for 6 on time. The food french toast was amazing! All the other food looked great. Got a latte, was ok, nothing special, and was cold. With it being busy, it wasn't loud, which was nice for a larger group.
Our reservation was for 8 pm and we arrived at about 7:55. The hostess told us our table would be ready in “1-2 minutes.” No problem. 20 minutes later we were seated. I completely understand that delays happen, but what I object to is being told it’s a one minute wait if they know they’re running behind. About five minutes into our wait someone approached the host stand and said they were checking how long it would be before their 7:45 pm reservation was ready. Considering people who had reservations for 15 minutes prior had not yet been seated the hostess knew it would be more than a 1-2 minute wait. If she’d been honest from the start it wouldn’t have been a problem at all. Had the tables been turned and I said I was one minute late for my reservation and showed up 20 minute later the table would have been given away. The hostess did nothing to apologise for the wait, and while this is one of my favourite places to bring visitors to in the city it left a sour taste in my mouth.
We spent 24 hours in Boston, visiting as tourists, with 3 generations of our family (teenagers to grandparent). The menu was uncomplicated, varied and food was delicious. The restaurant layout was interesting, creating several intimate dining atmospheres. Vibe was friendly, casual, comfortable and lively without feeling noisy and rushed. Cool restaurant in a lovely Boston neighborhood.
My wife and I have been coming to MET for years. I was our favorite restaurant in all of Boston (the unrolled salmon sushi-style dish with Dyamite sauce was incredible). Unfortunately, we learned that MET got a new head chef maybe ~a year ago, and since then it's been nothing but downhill in our last four or five visits.
In this most recent visit, we waited 30 minutes to be seated past our reservation (at 7pm on a Saturday night), and once we were finally seated we proceeded to deal with no fewer than four different members of the waitstaff, including a waitress-in-training. It took another 30 minutes after being seated before our orders were taken, and one of our drinks didn't appear until another 20 minutes after that, at which point two different members of the waitstaff brought duplicate drinks to our table (seemingly having failed to communicate with each other about who was waiting our table?).
The food at MET remains delicious and a great value for the price, but they removed many of our old favorite dishes and the service has been consistently truly awful in the last year.
It's with a heavy heart that we have decided we won't be coming back to MET. It used to be the go-to spot for my wife and I on special occasions, like Valentine's Day, birthdays, and even once on our anniversary. At least we can hang onto our fond memories of what was once a gem in the Boston dining scene.
The food was good. Service was not. We sat upstairs and it felt like we were forgotten several times. We were an early dinner so felt they should have been able to move us along quicker. The waitress was very very nice but was training and new and unfortunate several others were as well.
We arrived around 2:30 and were told we could order off the bar menu because brunch was about to end..then were told we had to wait over an hour to order off the bar menu..which was fine but our server was incredibly rude and for some reason thought it was appropriate to talk about her underage drinking habits and how she's constantly ill. The restaurant cleared out around 4 pm and the temperate dropped at least 15 degrees, we were shivering and waited about 15 minutes for the check to be brought to us so we could finally leave.. food was okay but bad service all around, would not recommend
Our server was lovely - but the pros end there. My salad was WET - and of course when greens/produce have not been dried, the dressings just dribble off and it becomes exceptionally bland. It was also very expensive for a salad with no cheese, meat, or fancy ingredients - just greens, nuts, and dried fruit.
We also arrived and were the only other party in the room, but they sat us directly next to a small child. I understand families and children have to eat too, but in all that space, I wish they had given us a little more distance. It's also just awkward to be right up next to someone (literally sharing a booth) when there's an empty restaurant around you - it's a bit like picking the urinal next to the only other person in the bathroom. Just, why?
Great brunch menu! Nice atmosphere and so well located in the heart of Back Bay.
Friendly reception, very attentive service, excellent food. Admittedly, we were there for an early dinner; might be more hectic at a later hour.
No I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend. We ate in the bar area. Our server was no where to be found when my guest needed replacement silverware so we had to take from another table. Also she asked for salad dressing on the side and it never appeared. Sorry.
Loved the food and atmosphere-went 2x when in Boston for a week. Highly recommend
The service was a bit slow for a Sunday Bruch which seems to be their specialty. Some items were forgotten in our orders as well, but overall good food and fun atmosphere.
The waitress brought the check without asking for coffee or dessert. Although we wanted both, our appetite was promptly lost.
Wonderful service, very patient and quick about my friend’s numerous allergies, delicious food and my favorite avocado toast in town!
Honestly, the food was the only redeeming thing for this visit. We were seated in “the library” near the bar and the service was terrible. Our waiter was also the bar tender, and while the bar was not busy, he paid no attention to us. When we did get his attention, he didn’t bother to write anything down and had to keep coming back for us to confirm (how we wanted our steak cooked, what kind of pizza, drink orders). When it came time for the check, we asked him for it (after being there 2 hours) and then waited 30 minutes. He was busy cleaning the bar and we tried to motion to him multiple times but he did not pay attention. We finally walked up to the bar to ask him. We originally asked for separate checks and he said okay, however he didn’t remember who got what so we ourselves had to split the checks. He also didn’t bring them back to the table for the rest of us to sign, the person helping him at the bar had to do it for him. I’ve been to Met multiple times, but am not sure I would go back after this poor experience.
Very disappointing. Been here a few times but won't be back. Mixed drinks barely had any alcohol and when the bill came I was surprised how expensive they were. Oysters were six for $18, which is typical of other restaurants. However, the oysters were the small variety that one would normally get at other restaurants for a dollar each. Only positive was the server was very attentive.
Amazing Avocado Toast; best in Boston!
Great Fries too (Truffle)
Perhaps it was an off night, but the service was incredibly lacking for a restaurant of this type. We stood for several minutes at the front door before being greeted, then left to stand there even longer while the hostess checked on our table. That was surprising, as there were only two tables in the entire dinning room LOL
The jumbo shrimp were fantastic, the cheese selections delicious and the fillet was cooked perfectly. As good as the food was, the service was opposite. Our server was seemingly unable to refill drinks & was testy when asked 3 times for the same forgotten side item.
Terrible attention to service, but delicious food. Would definitely give it a second chance, in hopes that the service was a fluke.
10-14 dollar draft beers seem crazy! Food is great and bartender very friendly.
Went for lunch with some coworkers. They were very quick and efficient. Food was decent, but nothing overwhelming special.
The food was bad, the service was very slow. We were very disappointed.
Service was slow and inattentive in a nearly empty room, but otherwise the experience was quite acceptable.
I could not have been more disappointed with our experience at this restaurant.
We sat down for lunch for a party of 4 outside on the patio. After waiting 10 minutes our server finally came to our table. Except, instead of greet us, he put down the tray he was holding down on our table. The tray four water glasses and an espresso. Without saying a word to us, he picked up the espresso and dropped it on the the table behind us. He then picked up two water glasses and put them on the table next to us, which had just been sat 45 second before. Again, we waited 10 minutes for him to even show up, and he still hasn’t said anything to us. He then placed the remaining two water glasses on our table and said “I’ll be back to take your drink order”. When he finally returned another 5 minutes later, he took the food order of the table next to us (that sat down after us), put their order into the computer. He then returned with the two glasses of water that he didn’t bring when he greeted us. As he reached over the table to put the glass down, he burped loudly and blew it out into my friends face. Now, I don’t think the blowing out was intentional, more absent minded, but completely rude and disgusting and he didn’t apologize or excuse himself. It was if he didn’t even know what he did. This is when we noticed that he REAKED of body odor. This was like 2- days of no shower or deodorant odor. He finally took our food order.
The menu was strange, no burger at 2:00 p.m., except for either a breakfast burger served on an english muffin or a 1-lb. burger. That’s right a 1-POUND burger! Do I even need to explain how absurd that it? After being denied a regular sized burger, we got our food, it was fine, no major complaints, but certainly nothing that we loved. Our server did return several times to ask us how the food was, but at an annoying rate, probably every 5-10 minutes of our meal.
Between the poor service, body odor, burps and subpar food, we will not be returning.
Jaynonymous, This is clearly not the service standard that we strive for. We addressed the particular server that tended to your table that day, and who was apparently the root of all of your dissatisfaction. We have used this as a training moment with the remainder of our team, and are confident there will be no similar issue in the future. Please accept apologies, and invitation to join us again to experience truly what we offer. I hope to hear back from you soon. Sincerely, Matt Dix GM
Food quality and taste were really underwhelming for a pricey restaurant in back bay. Would not recommend it.
AMAZING. The garlicky breadcrumb Mac and cheese was to die for.
Amazing food and amazing wine. However, the server was pretty inexperienced. Not only my table but several other tables really wanted to pay so we tried to get the server’s attention but maybe he didn’t want to get paid. It took us forever to get his attention. Nice young man but inexperienced. Perhaps should be trained more.
Also would not recommend for birthdays, they just give you three scoops of vanilla ice cream with one candle and that’s all.
Had a great time at Met as always. The food was delicious. It a fun scene here and we enjoy going.
Bad lighting, mediocre food and generally disappointing. Not what it used to be.
Sit outside on the patio
3 out of 4 of us ordered steak tips for dinner. For all three of us, the mashed potato for our steak tips was almost cold when we got it, and it didn’t come with any spinach as the menu described. When we asked about it, we were then told that they ran out of spinach. Running out of spinach is fine, but shouldn’t the server at least inform us and provide alternative options before serving us three half empty plates? Eventually we were provided kale or salad as an alternative, and we asked the server to heat up the dish. When we got the plates back again, we were SHOOK the mashed potato was STILL almost cold even though we asked to heat it up. The kale and steak tips taste ok though. Overall it was a very disappointing dining experience for all of us, and the food and service was definitely not worth the value.
Hello Cindyloohoo. I am very sorry that this was your experience. It is certainly not our standard of service and communication that we expect in this environment. I appreciate the information, and will make this a priority to understand what happened here. Meanwhile, I would very much like the opportunity to make this up to you. If you would, please reply back and it would be my pleasure to present some ideas to right this wrong. Sincerley, Matt Dix, GM
We were very satisfied. Levon took good care of us.
We booked for 830 on a Sunday night - unfortunately upon arrival we were seated upstairs by the front of house - only to be ushered downstairs by one of the servers who advised that the upstairs was shutting shortly. When we walked in downstairs and the servers there saw we were trying to be seated - the look of horror that we wanted a meal was incredibly unpleasant. After such a horrible welcome we decided the rest of the experience would be very frosty so we said we would find another restaurant that may want our business. The only positive was that the manager did try to convince us to return via phone a few minutes later - but all too awkward for a family who travelled from Delaware that day with young children
We chose this establishment based on the menu we viewed online. When we arrived, the hostess felt the need to educate us on the brunch patio seating availability and how it isn’t guaranteed, which was a bit patronizing and annoying. “THE MORE YOU KNOW!”, she exclaimed. We were less than pleased to find that the menu was completely different from what we viewed online. What a let down! Maybe if the hostess spent more time advising customers that the menu is different from what is viewed online versus currently being offered at the restaurant instead of being an arrogant child who belittles others, we wouldn’t have such a bad taste in our mouths. Way to fall short, MET Back Bay...THE MORE YOU KNOW.
