Modern Love Brooklyn
What Insiders Are Saying
Fancy-ish vegan food in Williamsburg.
Very friendly staff. Food was amazing what's not to like. Nice selection of mixed drinks. I went with 5 non vegans and all live it too. A must try.
Nice vegan restaurant in Brooklyn. Whenever we’re in the city we tend to head to another vegan restaurant in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, that place is so small and popular that we frequently have 60-90 waits for a table. This time we decided to check out Modern Love instead of waiting. We were very pleased. We ate off the Saturday brunch menu and I had the mushroom and grits that were creamy and wonderful. My wife had the seitan and waffles and my niece had their house made veggie burger. Everything was great. The meal was a little pricey but no more than I expected in NYC. The service was also well done.
i got the fondue as my main dish and it was the perfect amount of food for me! the fondue tasted JUST like how i remember cheese tasting and it was the perfect complement to the grilled broccoli and raw carrots and garlic bread (which i do admit could have been less oily). overall it was the perfect dinner! beautiful restaurant too!
Really exceptional service, ambience and food! Would definitely recommend
Great vegan brunch options - best-tasting tofu benedict yet! Can't wait to go back.
Love this place!! Food is amazing- great value and soooooo yummy! Went back to back because it was Soo good!! Recommend the mozzarella sticks, Buffalo tempah wings, chorizo nachos, Cobb salad, any of the burgers, chickpea cutlet; the pecan crusted tofu is really great! Only thing I would have as a critique is this: I really wish they cut their fries thinner- their fries are basically a quartered potato-- too thick for my tastes. If you like that, then recommend the truffle poutine ( the fixings are great, just can't with the huge wedges.) I just get the salad with the burger! Overall, my new favorite place! Meat eaters will enjoy, and I leave with to go plates because it's very filling food!
Good food, super crowded tables that left you uncomfortably close to your fellow diners. I expect that in Manhattan, but not Brookyln.
Food was good, but did not blow me away. Would go there again, but definitely not at a peak time on a weekend!
Outstanding brunch! Pesto tofu scramble and breakfast tacos were exceptional, with large portions and great coffee too. I wholeheartedly recommend for vegans and non-vegans alike!
Modern love was a great take on a romantic outing for vegans. The setting was nice and quaint with very little room except for larger parties. The service was quick, delightful, and knowledgeable willing to answer any questions we had with a smile. The noise level was pretty high, but that seemed to be due to the packed out restaurant. The buffalo wings, and burger were amazingly similar to meat, as my friend has said being the meat eater. The chicken parm fell slightly short with it being greasy and losing the chicken texture that I was looking for, but the other things on the plate were great. If you are ever in Brooklyn and want to try out some vegan food with your significant other, or looking for a plant based restaurant for yourself I definitely would recommend Modern Love.
The food was great but the service was not. There was little to no hospitality. The server did not check on us much despite walking past our table frequently. The food took a really long time to come out and it seems the kitchen was weeded with to-go orders.
Dreaming about going back. No words for the level of food and enjoyment!
Modern Love is an amazing vegan restaurant! The ambiance is rustic, cute, and inviting. The server is very knowledgeable on the menu items and is very helping to answer any question one may have. Specifically, I have a nut allergy and they were able to accommodate me on which items to avoid and which items I could eat. I will 100% be coming back to Modern Love in the near future!
It was an excellent experience and amazing food. We celebrated my brother's birthday.
The staff was really lovely and considerate and the food was very good (especially the dessert - the cookie dough sundae - was stellar), but we both ordered a dish that was not that big of a portion for an entree/a main. However, we actually did see some entrees that were a decent-size portion. Maybe something to consider.
Nonetheless, dinner at Modern Love Brooklyn has been one of the best eating out experiences during our stay in New York :) still big fans!
Meat is murder, MLBK is pretty delicious vegan. Mac and shrews highly recommended
First time there, and I enjoyed the meal.
I decided to take my 5-year-old son here to dinner because we wanted to try the fried tofu, mashed potatoes with gravy, & coleslaw. Can I say, "OMG, it was an amazing dinner!" The staff are friendly & as long as you make a reservation you are seated quickly which I really appreciated. When we left my son asked me when we'll be going back. I told him very soon :-)
As far as vegan restaurants go in NYC, this one is a bit lacking in flavor in regards to the competition. The burger...I took one bite and couldn’t take anymore. Everything else was meh...nothing noteworthy other than the dessert (cookie dough sundae;).
I think it's a good place for vegans in general. The food is rich, very rich, so I left not finishing my food (and I almost always finish my food). I preferred the savory food over the dessert--I took my dessert back to my hotel room and it was just okay. I don't love the space and set up in general, it feels very cavernous and empty. I definitely thought it felt like a gussied up cafe vs a hip restaurant. But it is comfort food so it's up to them on how they envision the right environment for that. Despite not loving the space nor the wine options (I really wanted much nicer wines on the menu), I would go back and try other dishes. Again, food was good just very rich!
I was really disheartened with my experience here. I was expecting Modern Love to bring me new and creative Vegan/Vegetarian dishes but so many of their entrees were unoriginal and lacked great taste. Our server also couldn't describe the special to us and had no idea how to describe the taste of the food. Thumbs down and will not be going back.
Great experience! I spent my birthday there with friends and the food is delicious and portions are surprisingly large, so money was well spent. Drinks were tasty and ambiance was trendy and fun. Would definitely go back!
The food is amazing! Making a reservation and still having to wait over 30 minutes for a table not so amazing.
Food was out of control. One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time. We had our appetizer within 10 minutes of placing our order and our entrees within 20 minutes. Prompt service and insanely delicious food. 10/10
The food was truly a vegan's paradise. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely come back.
I only wish there were more locations!!!! If it was closer to me I would be there all the time!!
It’s true what other reviews say and my experience was not a one time off! The potato wedges were under cooked, the macaroni over cooked and the piccata tasteless (with as good as raw beans). We also had to wait for nearly an hour between starters and mains! For which in all fairness we were compensated. Wine list is also not bad. We had a decent Cote du Rhône. Deserts were good, the Cannoli was the best I have ever had! And I would go back for that if the rest of the experience was not so mediocre.
My absolute favorite place to eat in Brooklyn! The quality of the food is 100% worth the price. Each time I go, I have one of the best meals of my life. I got the seitan chops (for the second time) and my boyfriend got the strogonoff. The depth of flavor in both of these dishes is truly amazing. The service is always friendly and food comes out very quickly! I constantly recommend Modern Love to anyone in the Brooklyn area or visiting!
Absolute perfection. Booked a table as soon as the restaurant opened (5:30pm) as my sister and I had a flight to catch, and we were shown to our table immediately. The waiting staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the food was served incredibly quickly. Plus, the food was so damn tasty! We ordered three starters (mozzarella sticks, poutine and buffalo wings) and two mains (chickpea cutlet and the mac n cheese) and couldn’t fault any of it. (And yes, my sister and I can eat!)
Wish they did something for the birthday. But the food was great!
Favorite restaurant in NYC!
I’m vegan, and my boyfriend is not. He had no clue that everything was vegan. It was so delicious. I had the stroganoff and he had the artichoke Mac and cheese. I asked for a quiet table, because it was our late Valentine’s celebration. They put us in the perfect corner. Loved everything. Went home full, but not stuffed. Perfect for vegans and omnivores alike.
the best vegan comfort food !
Every time we visit Williamsburg we go to Modern Love. Food is consistently good with very good service.
🌈Can’t wait for these fabulous recipes to make it to Isa Chandra’s next vegan cookbook. 🌈
The food was awesome! The atmosphere could've been better - the servers seemed to just want to get the job done and there really wasn't any music.
We had an amazing time. 10/10 would love to dine in again <3 <3 <3
Amazing food. Amazing service. Amazing restaurant.
My husband and I love visiting Modern Love for birthdays, anniversaries, or spur of the moment dates. Our initial dinner plan for this evening didn't work out so we decided to go to Modern Love last minute. It was amazing as always and reminded us why we love to dine here. My top recommendations are the Grilled Caesar and the Hen of the Woods Piccata. It's hard to try new things sometimes because those two dishes are so amazing - best salad I've ever eaten! I tell all of my friends to go here whether they are vegan or not.
The food at Modern Love was close-your-eyes phenomenal.
The Almond Ricotta toast appetizer - recommended by the server - is incredible. The toast is thick but tender with the right amount of pull, the almond ricotta is creamy and rich and the sweetness of the reduction complements the other flavors wonderfully. A little more sweet than savory (could reduce the amount of reduction drizzled by 25%), but looking for imperfections feels like picking out flaws in a stunning piece of art. Why bother? 9/10
The Mushroom Piccata (name?) is perfect. It comes out in a wide bowl, because you quickly realize the ‘gravy’ is the consistency of soup. While this may sound off-putting, the flavor is the opposite.
My first bite of mashed potatoes were distinctly but mildly peppery. The beans were perfectly cooked, and the actual picatta was extraordinary. With each bite, I combined different elements: potato, picatta, beans, gravy in different ratios and enjoyed the meal completely.
I did not have dessert, since I was very full at this point, but I almost regret that looking back.
We often celebrate special occasions at Modern Love, and my birthday dinner this past Sunday was just perfect. Great service, yum food, cute atmosphere!
