What Insiders Are Saying
Momotaro is like a Japanese Discovery Zone. You may need to sample the menu a bit, but hit your stride and it's a great meal.
Our experience was outstanding! We were celebrating a birthday and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive. And, we received delicious extras. Beautiful. Delicious. Excellent service.
We ordered about 8-9 dishes including the beef.
We felt like only 2 of them were good, the others were just average and the beef was a disappointment.
It was chewy instead of soft.
Compared with other places with the same price, this is not worth the price. I would never go there again.
Amazing! The food was exquisite and the ambiance was perfect for a romantic date
We did the chefs choice tasting and the food was amazing. The highlights were the chicken liver mousse and 1,000 year cypress smoked fish. The restaurant is beautiful and the services is excellent but the food is off the charts good!
Wonderful restaurant with great service. Amazing ambience and decor tol
Very popular and very busy on a Friday night. Small reception area, so went downstairs to the bar to wait for table. Unfortunately, dining also at bar tables, so had to stand around bar with drinks. Once seated at table, service and food outstanding!
Very small portions for the cost. All food came out at different times so one would be done with their little bite of food before the others got their food.
Service was good.
Best dining experience I’ve ever had, the staff is knowledgeable and courteous and food was absolutely delicious!
There are more quality options for a way better value around the city. What we experienced and ate was not at all worth the price. Dietary restrictions are not unusual, however the staff seemed to be completely confused about how to accommodate a gluten free, vegetarian individual. From our experience, this place was not worth the price.
Danya is the bomb. Great service and excellent food.
Hospitality is not only an industry, but it is a concept. Everyone might have a slightly different idea of what hospitality should look like, but we all know what it feels like to feel welcomed and valued. Momotaro made me feel welcomed and valued from the moment I entered the doors. I had the Chef’s Nigiri Selection - a tasting of various proteins over rice that the Chef chooses for the evening. I started out with a glass of Prosecco and also had a glass of “pearls of simplicity” Junmai Ginjo sake with my sushi. The ambience was romantic and electric. Although I dined by myself, I will be back to dine with more people. 5/5 stars
service was terrible
Best sushi i have had! I think it was a little bit noisier than normal because of it being new year's eve but even that wasnt that bad! Would definitely come back again!
My family and I came to Momotaro for NYE dinner and we were very excited to try it as I heard great reviews. While the sushi was not bad, it certainly wasn’t as good as I thought it would be and definitely not worth the hefty price. All the fish was extremely fishy and did not taste fresh. At almost $120/person, I would not say that our meal was worth it at all. Very disappointed.
Great ambiance & service
Food a little disappointing. Yaki shouldve knocked it out of the park and didn't.
Shrimp yaki not good
Thigh teriyaki average
Toro was not very fatty
Vegetarian sashimi was good.
Steak very good.
Deserts too small.
3 people $300?
PORTION SIZES ARE BARELY ENOUGH! WE WERE NOT SATIATED
Excellent sushi and some unexpected delights...try the spaghetti and don’t sleep on the dessert menu!
While the food was tasty and the ambiance is lovely, we were quite disheartened by the service and the expectation of allotted time per table. We had arrived on time for our reservation however the hostess refused to seat us until our entire party arrived. Understanding the need to reserve seating for full parties, we went to the bar. About 10 minutes later we were approached to let us know that we only have the table for two hours and would be asked to vacate 2 hours from the time of the original reservation. It seems that this type of standard should be communicated effectively upon reservation and we did not appreciate the feeling of being rushed or inconvenienced by the overall management style of the restaurant. Something to keep in mind when making a reservation, it’s delicious but make sure everyone arrives at the same time - they will kick you out of your table.
Great service in an attractive space, and some of the best sushi we’ve ever had.
I had a great time at Momotaro! The food and service was excellent :)
Easily one of the best meals of our lives, filled with amazing meals all over the world
Very elegant and classy, definite recommend!
Celebrated a Birthday and well worth the money. The staff was amazing at taking care of us. Such good food too. A unique take on Japanese cuisine. Though, if you’re looking for authentic Japanese, this may not me the spot.
We love Momotaro -- it has become our family's favorite restaurant. We look forward to ordering our favorite items and trying all the inventive cocktails.
It was our first time. Our waiter was extravagant! He recommended all our dinner and drink choices and made the evening so pleasant. What I really enjoyed is how lively the atmosphere was and compliments to the chefs for the great flavors of quality in each dish. Thank you all!
Best Sushi in Chicago; it's not even close! I've been to Tokyo and Momo is the only sushi restaurant to rival.
Good food. Fun ambience. Difficult menu. Needed more guidance from staff. Parking and traffic terrible
Such great food! The service is outstanding too. Consistent in presentation and taste. Cocktails are great too!
Amazing sushi, innovative dishes, and quality ingredients all around
Food was amazing.. a bit expensive for the full menu omakase, but, in a big city, this is what you expect. Quality was where it needed to be.
Fantastic experience ! Keep up the good work
I recommend letting the wait staff steer you towards several of the items on the menu
That’s so great to spend birthday dinner at momotaro. Momotaro will give you a special birthday menu and a special birthday dessert. Thanks momotaro give us a unforgettable birthday time. By the way, the foods are also very great.
truly the best sushi dining experience in chicago
I made a reservation at Momotaro a few weeks ago for mine and my spouse's anniversary. I designated in the reservation that the dinner was a celebration. Then again when someone called to confirm the reservation, I reminded her that it was to celebrate an anniversary. But the occasion went unnoticed. Also, although there were no reservations before 9:00pm, more than half of the restaurant was empty. The sushi was excellent, and our waitress was great, but the service was otherwise subpar for the caliber of restaurant.
Jordan did a great job curating a meal and sake service for us. This is s place you cannot go wrong if you enjoy upscale authentic Japanese cuisine
My cousins and I had a terrific time. Service along with the food was excellent, the best sushi I have had in the Midwest by far. Thank you for the great experience.
Good just expensive
Second time we have been here for our anniversary and outstanding again!
My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience at Momotaro. Each bite of food was to be savored and discussed for some time after. It was a meal that we will be talking about for months. The ambience of the restaurant is really beautiful, it’s different from anything else in Chicago. As soon as you walk in the experience feels special. Our service added another layer of greatness to the experience. Knowledgeable, genuine staff can make all the difference. Although we spent a large some of money (for us 20-somethings), we walked away feeling no guilt. The place is highway recommended.
Some of our favorites were the Waygu beef served in daikon wrapping, the “bacon and eggs” and whole chef’s specialty nigiri section of the menu.
We will surely be back.
