We were in Old Town Alexandria for Restaurant week and chose to dine here- the location is great with the trolley ride. This place is spacious and seating comfortable. We ordered vegetarian- the lentil soup was savory and delicious- but the two entrees of cauliflower and okra were ordinary to say the least. Service was courteous. We went at a quiet time which was good for conversation. A so-so experience.

We were unimpressed. The appetizer sampler was okay and the Lamb Saagala was good, but my butter chicken was awful. The chicken pieces were weirdly cooked and the sauce was watery and odly sweet. The desert sampler tasted fine but was horrendously presented: blobs of dessert that looked like spit up on a plate with melting ice cream. Would only go back for the Lamb. Service was terrible. Our server didn’t know the dishes on the menu and kept rushing us despite a near empty restaurant.

Truly outstanding Indian food and we have eaten in at least 10 restaurants in the US. We had chicken curry and lamb makhani and both were excellent and onion kulcha was also delicious. The sauces were succulent and provided layers of flavor. Three adults shared the two dishes and with an extra rice they were more than enough with the breads. The manager went out of his way to greet us. I left my credit card there and there was no problem getting it the next day. The food, service and dining room were excellent at this price point. The noise level was normal despite two tables of 8 to 10 people nearby. The restaurant was conducive to large and small groups as well as special dinner celebrations. We will definitely be back next year. My only disappointment was that the waiter did not offer us the happy hour drinks or specials that we saw on the way OUT in the window. He asked if we wanted a drink and we when we said no, he did not offer the excellent small plate specials.

I hate to leave such a low review but we made this reservation for (Tuesday) Valentine's Day and had no problems completing the reservation on OpenTable. When we arrived the restaurant was completely closed, no lights on. Sign on the door said it would've been open, no other signs explaining why it was closed. We were able to eat at another restaurant but I was bummed we never got to enjoy our reservation. Please update your OpenTable hours and ability to book reservations so we don't have to leave reviews like this!

On a different day, the service may have been better, but they were not prepared for Valentine's Day, and it wasn't even that packed. We debated leaving because it was taking so long and the wait staff clearly were overwhelmed, but then the appetizer came out and it was amazing! Then we waited a little more and the entree was even better! We ended up taking some home for a snack the next day.

30 minutes for chips and sauce . 1 hour for appetizer. Entree was pretty small. I understand that it was Valentine’s day but what was the point of making the reservation if we still had to wait that long.

We took our out of town houseguests there as they are big fans of Indian cuisine. They were very impressed by not only the huge amount of options on the menu, but the quality of the food as well. They were particularly excited to see all the dessert choices, something that apparently they rarely see in their local Indian restaurants. We sat in one of the elevated booths, which makes it very private and quiet, allowing us not to scream at each other as in so many restaurants nowadays. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient.

Food was delicious and dining room was unexpectedly very empty. Staff seemed a little confused and we had multiple people coming by to ask us the same thing (eg offering to take a drink order when we were waiting for drinks we'd already ordered). Pretty sure it was a training night. Would definitely come back again if I was in the area and craved this cuisine.

This was the third and final time we’ve been here. We came when it opened and the food and service wasn’t great, but we put that down to opening issues. 6 months later we ate here and while the food was passable, the chicken curry dish my wife ordered had diced chicken bones in it that she choked on. This last time was the final straw. We went when it wasn’t busy, we ordered and then my wife’s tandoori chicken came out incredibly quickly. The chicken was barely warm and dry. It had obviously been cooked many hours before and reheated poorly. The salad it was served I was limp and unappetizing. About 10 minutes later the Indian Salad turned up - a pitiful plate of limp iceberg and chopped tomatoes with one ring of cucumber on it. No mint dip, no onion, no care gone into it at all. My dish hadn’t even appeared. We opted to leave and walked out. The sign outside says ‘Old Towns Best Indian Restaurant’ - technically as it’s the only Indian Restaurant it’s not a lie - but it also makes it the worst, poorest service, and poorest cuisine standards. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

My family and I come here 2-3 times a month, so much so that they know us and give us our regular table, which my daughter loves. The food is spot on, even my Indian mom would approve. They are improving their bar offerings, and we are excited to see where they go with it.

Wir hatten draußen einen Tisch ergattert. Es ist war eine sehr gemütliche Atmosphäre. Wir würden sehr zuvorkommend bedient. Es hat immer jemand gefragt , ob alles o. k. ist, ob das Essen schmeckt und so weiter. Ich war schon mehrmals da und mag die das Restaurant sehr , da Klein gemütlich , essen toll. Und teilweise auch andere Auswahl als bei anderen indischen Restaurants. Sehr lecker. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Lovely space to have a meal with large, arched booths available if you arrive early. We started with samosa chat which were quite good and not too spicy and followed this with the tandoori grill dish. (A nice mix of salmon, chicken, lamb and one shrimp.) Well seasoned and you could order it based on your spice tolerance. The chicken biryani used a longer grain rice and is a darker color than we were used to seeing but was also well prepared and flavorful. We also ordered kasmiri naan (a sweet, fruit stuffed bread) and dal. All good dishes and well seasoned. Attentive service and quiet enough to hear each other talk. Would have liked a little music perhaps. :)
