Occidental Grill & Seafood
We both completely enjoyed our Occidental experience. We began with drinks upstairs, and then continued to enjoy the fine service and great ambience during our meal downstairs. Our meals, which included oysters, halibut, beet salad and crab cake, were delicious, as well as being beautifully presented. We both loved the walls that are wallpapered with photographs - so uniquely Washington! Handicapped access was excellent, too. If we didn’t live in Connecticut, we’d definitely be Occidental regulars!
Classically great food and service. Just a heck of a lot of white guys on the walls and a hideous portrait of Trump to endure.
The worst dinner that I have ever had in Washington D.C. The food was not fresh and tasted terrible. My wife got sick when we got home. It was expensive and not worth the money. Even the desserts were bad. Do waste your money on this place.
The food was fantastic, but the soup was warm at best.
Service was good. Swordfish sandwich was excellent.
My filet was perfect, perhaps the best I have had. My Manhattan was first rate as well. Service as good.
Great food and staff!!!
It was a nice restaurant. The ambiance was pleasant and our waiter was very attentive.
We experienced a friendly reception upon our arrival. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. It was fun to see all of the old, and some new, photos and paintings on the walls. When we ask about the photographs they brought out a book identifying every photo in the building. Very impressive.
The warm beet salad was not particularly tasty and the bib lettuce salad had too much dressing. The cornbread was fabulous and a nice surprise. The scallops were outstanding and the fillet was pretty good.
All in all, a nice meal.
The atmosphere is much too bright for an intimate dining experience. There is much history and that is a point of interest, so a trade off. We found the service to be good, with a pleasant, attentive wait staff, however we found the service overall to be slow. The food, when delivered, was very good.
Food and atmosphere were great. We were one of three tables being used in the entire restaurant at the time. Service was extremely slow considering that everybody had salads.
Our server was outstanding.
Awesome food, service and atmosphere. Always an enjoyable event at the Occidental.
The food was delicious and the location historic.
We went for restaurant week, and it was very impressive! Great selection for restaurant week (included steak!) but every course we touched was delicious, and the staff were very courteous. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Overpriced, small portions.
We had a reservation way in advance of Restaurant Week, but the deal was too good to pass up. Had a delicious cocktail called the Senators (after the Washington Senators) which was served “up” in beautiful cut glass. Food was very good, so go there even if it isn’t Restaurant Week. The ambience is formal, yet comfortable. Pictures of famous people adorn the high walls. The host offered us access to a reference book to assist in identifying any/all. Fun to guess while waiting for dinner.
My husband and I were really delighted with our dinner considering it’s the restaurabt week the menu was superb
Excellent service, good food, easy reservation, nice décor. Great experience.
Way too bright inside for elegant dinner. Decor was wonderful. The server was very good but one very awkward moment was when one of the staff took the unused butter knife from my guests setting after first course and placed on my side (since I had used mine) it just looked and was very strange. The food was excellent! Menu could use just a few more entree choices but that’s just my opinion
Cocktails were expensive but used choppy ice cubes that melted quickly.
Service was not very attentive
Todo bien aunque los hongos que tenia el ribeye estaban viejos.
Tambien la salsa del tiramisu estaba agria...
We were in Washington DC visiting our daughter. The food was amazing. The wine recommendation was fabulous and our server Rene was exceptional!!
We had a terrific lunch there. Fantastic salads and superb service!
Prices are rising above the competition
An excellent place for special moments, excellent food just like the service. they are always taking care of you. I love the restaurant.
Took the wife here for new years eve. Really want to like this place more and had high expectations based on prices and ambiance. The first wine (cheapest) choice was not drinkable so had to get a different bottle. Best food was the cornbead (excellent!). The Caesar salad was unexceptional. My french onion soup was very good. However, our main entrees (Swordfish & Halibut) were just so so - kinda bland and not that hot. We had better & cheaper seafood at a sports bar chain the night before.
We were visiting DC for the second time and had to go back!
This place has great food and the atmosphere is very cool. Tons of political figure pictures on the walls.
Just a great place to have a nice dinner with the family in a historical restaurant next to the White House.
Would highly recommend!
A wonderful anniversary dinner post theatre and historic gem. The staff made room for us much earlier than our reservation and the wait staff was attentive and informative. We were seated at a table that witnessed significant history. The food was incredible and delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We highly recommend this gem in our capital, perfect for a theatre /dinner date.
We went for my wife’s birthday dinner and the Occidental made it perfect. The ambiance was classy, the food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. Also, just 2 blocks from our show reservations in the Ronald Reagan building.
Longtime fan. It did not disappoint. Service and food were outstanding. A bit pricy, but pretty much worth it. I would recommend.
The service was by far the best part of our experience. It’s surprising what a difference just the right amount of attention makes. The food was well prepared, but there were not good vegetarian choices.
Customer service and food was excellent. Look forward to returning.
Too many children running around the second floor- no appropriate for a pleasant adult dining experience.
The food was fantastic and service was great. Would definitely go back. Only complaint and wasn’t really a complaint would be it was noisy. If your looking for a quiet and cozy place this restaurant would not be a good choice . The way structure is built it funnels the noise right down to the bottom level.
Would definitely recommend restaurant for food and service. Also great location especially if your seeing a show at the Warner theater .
Food was very good but unimaginative. Less expensive than I was expecting.
Wonderful for a Christmas season dinner with family after enjoying the decorations at the Willard. Excellent food....highly recommend the trout stuffed with crab.
