Waitress was rude, rushed us to order
We came with a party of 11. We all sat together around one grill. They were great, entertaining and delicious. Tons of food, great value.
Thank you Osaka
We were in town for my birthday, we chose to go here for dinner. The atom
Had a sweet 16 birthday party dinner for my daughter and 8 friends. Service was great and prices very reasonable. The girls were allowed to sing Karaoke in the lounge after dinner and had a really fun time. Thanks to Rita for coordinating a fun evening!
Not authentic Japanese cuisine!
Agetofu appetizer was just grilled tofu and teriyaki sauce. Very minimalist.
Pork Tonkatsu was just pieces of sliced pork with a side of sauce. No shredded cabbage or dikon as an accompaniment.
The tempura vegetables were the best entree. Portion was large and good for sharing. Batter was light and sauce was good.
The waitress was rude at times when taking our order. When she asked how many checks and we told her she said no sorry one check. Not sure why she asked. The cooking show was short the chef seemed like he just wanted to be done as soon as possible. It was ok.
Had a wonderful time! They made us feel at home, and were very accommodating to my wife’s dietary restrictions.
We had a group of 8 of us with a friend from out of town. We were celebrating my boyfriends birthday and we were rushed to get our drink orders in, our food and weren’t asked for a second round of drinks. We were half way through our meals when they tried to get us to box our food and give us our receipt. We felt that we were being respectful, we weren’t rude or loud. Food tasted amazing, just poor service.
It was my first time dining at a hibachi restaurant. It was a great experience. The chef really entertained us. The food, for what it's worth, was not the best. Service from the servers was average. The decor was beautiful, great place.
Amazing sushi - unique combos! Highly recommend lychee martinis and Asian pear margaritas!!!
Amazing sushi and hibachi! Great cocktail list! We have been coming for years and it’s by far the best sushi in Brookline!
Love Osaka! Amazing food and fun atmosphere. I go here pretty regularly and always have a great time!
The hibachi style cooking is a fun night out. Kids and teens seem to enjoy it, too. (We were all grownups.) The ginger dressing on the salad is so good. This is your classic American Hibachi experience. I love the vegetables and they had meat for the meat eaters. They have Harpoon IPA along with the Japanese beers. We love it!
Despite being some of the new parties in the entire restaurant, we were rushed through and out after a short meal compared to other hibachi experiences I've had. I was not impressed with the quality of food for the prices and found several large chunks of raw garlic in my food. I was not exceptionally impressed. The maki we received for our appetizer was warmer than room temperature even though it had tuna. I would not use this place for a special occasion again.
The customer service leading up to the actual night was great . The night of , The service was horrible . We were given such attitude upon arrival and was rushed and dismissed by the wait staff. Our waitress was argumentative with majority of things. We were so excited about this place but felt so uncomfortable and not welcomed that we quickly wrapped up the birthday dinner to get out of there. So unfortunate. I would not recommend, especially for a big party
I think the front desk staff here are rude to patrons and the service is slow, but the hibachi chefs make up for this with their fun and engaging personality and delicious food.
Food & experience were great! Nearby diners were all shouting and screaming throughout our meal which was frustrating but not the restaurants’s fault - would definitely go again
Food delicious. Very personable table chef. We did wait 40 minutes after our Open Table time before we were seated
reservation at 8:30, but didn't seat us until after 9pm because didn't start "looking for a table" until whole party of 12 showed up at 8:40. also didn't do fire tower or typical hibachi tricks
There are many choices of restaurants in Brookline. I think Osaka Japanese to be one of the better ones
Our expectations for this place are pretty low. Yet is is a place where everyone in the family can find something they like and the kids enjoy the show at the BBQ table.
That said, our waitress was as unfriendly and unhelpful as I have ever experienced. And when my partner when to complain to management, nothing was done.
Still, we will likely be back as we will ask for other wait staff.
Overall good experience, but the female waitress was less than friendly. She didn’t smile, barely looked at us and seemed mad at times. The male waiters and chef were great though. Friendly and entertaining! Maybe next time we save the balloons for right before we leave restaurant.
it was a good experience. The chef was really quick. it could have been longer
I love Osaka because of the food and the entertaining chefs so I keep coming back. But my last visit was kind of ruined by my server and her poor attitude. I didn’t appreciate the way she talked to my friend, which was her first hibachi experience, so she was a little confused how things worked. She could’ve explained what was included in the hibachi meal instead of just walking away because she was frustrated. I had to then step in and explain to my friend what comes with her hibachi meal. After our meal we went downstairs to the bar to have drinks. My drink was very good and the karaoke DJ was very nice. Later on that night after I had left I checked my bank account and I see that I was charged twice for the ONE scorpion bowl I had. I will be disputing that charge.
Food was great, but our appetizers came out when the hibachi started which was not ideal and we waited forever to eat. When the server did take out order we felt like we were getting in trouble at school. She was very quick and harsh. Food was great and so was the value. Service was not
Went for dine out Boston. Value was awesome, $28 for a three course meal when most other restaurants were doing it for $38. My girlfriends assorted sushi entree was a very healthy portion of very fresh and well prepared sushi and sashimi. I got the filet and lobster tail hibachi. I was expecting them to skimp on the portions but I got the full experience. It was all really good, my only complaint was the lobster tail was cooked WELL done. It was the last item to come off the hibachi and should’ve been the first. Lobster tail is such a delicacy and to cook it well done is a sin. Some of the filet pieces were a little sinewy/chewy like they hadn’t been trimmed properly. That all being said for $28 it was a great meal and value.
I have gone to Osaka in the past and enjoyed myself. This time around no! As soon as we say down the waitress asked us for drink order. We haven't even opened the menu to know what drinks were available. The chef wasn't as entertaining as the others around and he seemed rushed. The food was somewhat bland even with adding sauces.
I love hibachi and have visited many many hibachi places in different areas. Osaka is not one of the best. There's a nice ambience and a little night life downstairs on weekends. This overall experience was not satisfying.
Delicious shrimp tempura, sushi along with hibachi style filet and lobster. Generous food portions and tasty rice and vegetables as side dishes. Mochi ice cream a nice ending. Service was excellent and prices reasonable.
We went for the summer Dine Out Boston for the 3rd year in a row! Sushi and hibachi food was all delicious! The food portions were very generous. We will be back again!
Sashimi and ice-cream are good. The main courses are using the same sauce.
Good experience during the Boston dine out week. Will come again next time.
The whole experience felt very rushed.
Not much to say, a very good Japanese Steakhouse with Sushi.
I came here for Dine Out Boston and it was definitely worth the promotional price! Their presentation is beautiful and the sushi tasted excellent. Their attention to small details such as leaving the sashimi in a bowl of ice to stay fresh was very much appreciated.
We love this place! The food is delicious and you get a lot of it, so it's great to get a meal and some leftovers for tomorrow's lunch. The drinks are pretty good too. I would say the weak point is the service. They gave us water glasses and didn't refill them until we were almost done with the meal. We went long stretches without the waitress checking in on us, I would've liked another drink but didn't get a chance to order one. Definitely a good place if you want a long, leisurely meal and aren't shy about flagging someone down when you need something, but if you're planning to catch a movie and want quick, attentive service, this isn't the place for it.
This is not our first time visiting this place. This time the guy who did for us the show did without any enthusiasm and it's felt like he want to finish quickly and go to the next table. We were a party of 10 with kids and usually it it much more fun.
We like this neighborhood restaurant for casual weeknight dinners because we usually sit on the "sushi side". For a change, and because we had young guests, we tried the "hibachi side". This was a mistake. Service was poor and inattentive, food was mediocre, and several inconsiderately loud groups made conversation practically impossible. I've endorsed this restaurant in previous reviews, and will give them another chance (only on the sushi side), but the last experience was expensive and most disappointing.
The location and atmosphere of the restaurant seemed nice, but the service and quality of the food was very poor. The food had a lot of garlic for seasoning, the chef did not cut up the food, and many other things.
very loud and rushed and not particularly attentive service.
Excellent food and fun atmosphere as always. My daughter loves coming here. They give balloons to thw birthday kids when you let them know you’re celebrating. This timw they took the cake to the back amd cut it for us. In the past we’ve had to do it at the table. That was a nice surprise.
