We come to DC 2x per year and Oyamel is always tops on our list for lunch or dinner. This was dinner and it was fantastic as always.
Food and service were excellent. Julie was great! Very patient with us--friendly, accommodating and a good sport. A fun place!
The food and atmosphere was very lovely. From the host that called to remind of my reservation and greeted us upon arrival to the team members who waited on our table. I would not recommend this restaurant for a larger groups as it took a long time for everyone to get their various plates. I have been there with a smaller group and didn't experience such a disparity with the meal arrivals and it was great.
Oyamel is becoming one of our favorite restaurants. We always ask for a seat in the back room as
it's much quieter there. All our dishes were delicious, but we really enjoy the beet salad and
the scallop seviche. The service also is terrific. If you can get a reservation, go.
Generally good food with very good service.
Design and layout of the restaurant verges on busy for the sake of distraction; could be quieter.
Dinner at Oyamel was fantastic, as always. The food was fresh and delicious and the service outstanding. Love OYAMEL!
My husband and I have been here a few times and it never disappoints. I absolutely love the decor of the restaurant, it just makes you happy!
Great food, everyone who works there is so nice, highly recommend!
Enjoyed a wonderful night out with my wife. The location is perfect for providing an opportunity for a fantastic meal and drink either before or after an event in the Chinatown area.
Loved everything! Great food, drinks & atmosphere. This is one of my all time favorite restaurants.
Good guacamole, tacos were sub par, drinks were average. Very busy and energetic/social place
Excellent food and very friendly service. The ceviche were delicious, chicken enchiladas very tasty and not as "cheesy" as in other restaurants, which makes things healthier than typical Mexican places. Unfortunately the noise level is very high, even after the private event was over; quite tiring for our ear drums! But again, excellent gastronomical experience. Pricing very reasonable given the high quality of the food. I would rate everything 5 stars if the "acoustic" were more forgiving. If you're used to noisy places, then it's a no brainer :-)
Great time and wonderful meal.
The salads are good but it’s definitely not authentic Mexican food. Even the tortillas taste a bit industrial
Food was really good! We will defiantly return again! Portions were on the bigger side for tapas!!!
Although the food was terrific, the soup was dropped off without utensils. It took over 5 minutes to flag down anyone to get a spoon. By then, well, you know the rest.
A solid and festive choice in Penn Quarter. Food is good, but not mind-blowingly so. Service is frenetic. Pick another place if you’d like a more luxurious ambiance or would like to clearly hear each other speak.
It's a gourmet Mexian restaurant--fabulous, unexpected, pure enjoyment.
Great tapas to share. Lots of interesting food combinations. You don't need 3 per person....too much food.
Fantastic always!! Great service, even better food...it’s why it’s my favorite restaurant!
Amazing food and in a city with expensive menus this placed was great on price.
Would definitely recommend!
Always amazing. Food is outstanding. The cocktails are great. I have never had anything that was bad or I didn't like and I am picky.
Went for my husbands 30th birthday and had an absolutely wonderful time and the whole group raved about the tasting menu. Amazing! Will recommend and be back soon!
Great food but very small portions. Service was pretty good but it was my friend's birthday and they didn't bring her anything-- not obligatory, but would have been nice.
Cute little spot with attentive server andb delicious brunch menu. Guac is excellent!
Oyamel is the only restaurant in DC that offers a variety of Mexican food that has been lightly modified to satisfy the American palate. It also offers a variety of tequila and mezcal drinks, which is great.
Most amazing meal we had in a fantastic week in DC!! Will definitely return every time I make it back to the area! The food, service, and atmosphere were fantastic.
Poor service.delicious guacamole.
For lunch sit at the bar and ask for Chris or Mel. Get the Grasshopper taco!
Chicken soup is always perfect. Caesar with anchovies is amazing.
I always love going to Oyamel when I'm in D.C. The food is both imaginative -- this time, a new dish was a sweet potato "tamale" and it was superb -- and authentic. The restaurant is great for trying a lot of different things. The agua frescas are very refreshing.
Loved our window seat for six before an event at Capital One Arena. The service, food and atmosphere was great for us -- and affordable. We made it out with tip included for much less than most places in DC.
Food is always great. Server (Mel?) was wonderful!!
Delicious dinner and fantastic guacamole! Great service, too!
Excellent food and service!!
Great service even though restaurant was busy. Love their margaritas on the rocks! Am vegetarian and Oyamel has great options for me - the mushroom tacos are amazing. Highly recommend this place for a fun and delicious evening.
Always an incredible experience here! Our waitress, Anya, was amazing. Food is insane! We brought my father, who is a VERY picky eater, and even he loved the menu! The pomegranate marg is the best marg I have ever had. Incredible - thank you!
The tres leches dessert is out of this world, and the small plates are all great!
Can’t recommend because of noise level. Could not even hear waitress.
Easy to love Oyamel. Jose Andres restaurants are always great. The star of the show is the guacamole. It's amazingly fresh. I could eat the whole thing by myself. The chips are also fresh and very spicy. They had what I think is red pepper seasoning to the fresh chips. Perfect with the guacamole. The margaritas are wonderful. I love the sweet potato tamale filled with black beans. It is again light but hearty. I really love it. My husband had the meatballs and loved them. He also had two different types of pork tacos (one crispy and the other pork belly). Oyamel is delicious and I highly recommend it.
The staff was very accommodating despite how busy they always are!
