Peter Luger Las Vegas – A $49.95 March Madness Masterpiece If Las Vegas is the adult Disneyland of excess, Peter Luger at Caesars Palace is the old-school, Brooklyn-born wise guy who doesn’t need neon to stand out. We hit this steakhouse with the kind of hunger that only March Madness and two days of sports betting and cheap beer can bring. Three guys. One appetite. Zero regrets. Let’s talk about the $49.95 “Power Lunch” – possibly the most criminally underpriced meal on the Strip. While Vegas is busy selling you $32 omelets and $60 sushi rolls the size of cough drops, Luger’s steps in like an aging boxer who still knows how to throw a punch. We had the steak for one (aged, perfectly charred, dripping in umami dreams), two of the iconic Luger burgers (dry-aged beef on a soft roll that doesn’t try to upstage the meat), fries, the slab of house-cured bacon thick enough to stop traffic, a Caesar salad like your old man used to eat, and a sundae straight out of 1950s Americana. Our server, Joyce, was a gem – sharp, warm, efficient – the kind of person who makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years. She didn’t oversell or hover, just guided the meal like a pro. Luger’s in Vegas isn’t reinventing itself. It doesn’t need to. It brought the swagger of New York dry-aged beef to Sin City, and we were lucky enough to devour it. One of the best lunch deals in town. Full stop.

The waiter who helped us with ordering and billing was excellent. However the waitress who served drinks and changing plates was extremely rude. I would rate the waiter 5/5 but that particular waitress 0/5 if possible.

Power lunch was very good. French fries were dry. Could replace the French fries with another type of potatoes.

The evening started great at the bar with two wonderful drinks. The wife had a good espresso martini and I had the tequila drink which was excellent. Dinner started well with a very good Ceasars salad but after that it was downhill. The bread basket had stale bread in it. My steak came out 15 minutes before my wife's seafood tower finally came. We had to ask where it was. My steak was overdone (ordered med rare and got something closer to well done). We were billed for a wine we chose but was out of stock. The somm came over with an alternative choice which was a good choice. I'm used to the alternative being priced at the first choice if not in stock but I was ok that it wasn't offered that way. It was not ok that they billed for both bottles. Our sides were not very good (German fried potatoes and the creamed spinach). We could tell our wait staff was disengaged which was a big disappointment. If a couple is going to spend $580 on dinner I expect the staff to care about how and when meals come out and that our bread is not hard and cold. No more NYC restaurants that have Vegas locations. I've learned my lesson.

Overall, I was somewhat disappointed. I have been to the Peter Luger's in Williamsburg and in Great Neck, NY. However, the quality of the food at Vegas location is not nearly as good. I am reminded of the negative reviews by Pete Wells and Frank Bruni Published in The New York Times a while back. The steak was superior as usual. But everything else is "blah" at best and insulting at worst. The dinner rolls which we were served were dry and firm. They were obviously not fresh and were at least "day old". The Tomato and Onion appetizer was pretty bad also. The tomatoes were not ripe and flavorful, but bland, watery and green at the core. I get it......really good tomatoes are hard to come by. But when charging these prices for what is considered a classic Peter Luger dish, you kinda have to make sure that the quality is better than this. The German Fried potatoes were also a major disappointment. They weren't brown and crisp as one would expect, but just a mound of soggy potatoes heavily flavored with Thyme. If this place is going to make it in Vegas, the operators will need to do A LOT to improve the quality of the food. The prices are on the very high end. In terms of value, this place has a lot of work to do. If I ever do go back to this place, I will simply order a steak and skip everything else.

Irritating when restaurants make parties of one sit at the bar. I may have been inclined to stay longer or order more if I had a table. But either way it’s borderline discriminatory.
