New York City restaurateurs Pietro and Kelly Molendini took over the classic St. James farmhouse turned restaurant. The former co-owners of Vite Vinosteria in Astoria, Queens, who had moved from the city to Centerport, spent the summer renovating the dining room to a modern, clean look with neutral tones and contemporary artwork from Pietro Molendini's native Rome. They also expanded the bar from about four to 11 seats. Pietro Molendini has spent 30 years in the food industry, with a decade of that at Cipriani and stints at both Bar Pitti and Da Silvano. Along the way, he met chef Fabian Garcia Manca, who eventually headed the kitchen at Vito Vinosteria and now joins the Molendini’s in St. James. Kelly Molendini said Manca and her husband scour the tristate area and beyond for ingredients. "They are never home," she joked, and said that the pair source some of their meat from the Bronx, burrata from New Jersey and dried pasta from Italy and Sicily.

Owner was very accommodating. Service was extremely slow. Too many guests in the restaurant for the number of servers. Food was excellent.

Everything was great, the only minor complaint I had was the Ribeye steak special was tough. All other food ordered was superb! Staff was great too!

The food was amazing!!! Every bite was delish. Service was off. They seemed too busy for the amount of staff. Took a lot of time in between orders & getting drinks or food. They seemed very disorganized. Wasn't impressed with the ambiance/decor at all. I expected nicer than outdoor grass carpet & metal uncomfortable tables in the enclosed outside section.
Again, the food was unforgettable. The drinks were good as well. I'd go again, but not a Fri/ Sat night. Too much crowd for them to handle.

Beautiful spring Sunday complete with dinner at Pietro!! Our server, Steven was absolutely fantastic! We had tried both of his recommendations, the appetizer scallop special and the veal ziti pasta special and were blown away. We also had the red wine reduction marinated pears and ricotta appetizer and have to say it was perfect for a spring day. Pro tip: Spread the pears and ricotta on the warm crispy bread they provide you in the beginning of the meal! Everything was fantastic thank you for a fantastic Sunday evening ❤️

Food was delicious! Wait staff did not come by after we received a meal to see if we needed more drinks, salt… Cheese for our pasta etc. Sitting outside it was very loud with all the cars revving their engines going by. Overall we will go back but would sit inside

Decided to visit again as our last experience was wonderful. We were seated quickly in what I felt was the best table in the house, a cozy corner table with a view. We were greated instantly and got our wine promptly even though the restaurantwas busy. The warm soft bread started us off of course dipped in the tasty olive oil. I had the beet salad again it was so delicious last time and my husband had the eggplant stack with pistachios and honey. Who knew that combination could produce such harmony! I was able to enjoy and watch the intricate workings of all the skilled wait staff in anticipation of my shrimp over polenta. Tender and flavorful shrimp nestled atop creamy polenta complimented my wine. My husbands selection was a combination of fish and shrimp and the most octopus I have seen in a seafood medley. We engaged in nice conversations with our waiter and even the water person. Such an intimate setting makes you want to keep going back. Tiramisu for dessert and homemade limoncello. What a nice night out with a fascinating menu. Perfect to cure the doldrums of winter!

The food is outstanding. All pastas were freshly made and the appetizers were excellent.
Even with distancing though the inside was so loud conversation was difficult. it seemed much better on their outside enclosed patio. i would opt for a table there next time. and there will be a next time as the food was excellent.

Got there at 550pm for 6pm reservation.. they told me 15-20 min wait to eat inside instead of outside w heat. I chose outside. Those who ate inside looked like got better service...as I observed while using restroom. Opted for outside which was fine temperature wise.. Food was ok...waiter working his butt off but not enough waitstaff. Waited a long time for drinks, dinner and dessert
Filet mignon under cooked. Not in a rush to go back.

Our waiter was so friendly and really made the dinner fantastic. The outdoor patio was a tab bit cold but that was because people coming in kept leaving the door open. Next time I will sit further away from the door. The salad with quinoa and artichoke appetizers were fresh and interesting. My chicken and mushroom dish was good but I would have liked to have it over something other than potato, I was told the chef is very particular so no substitutions. I just had the potato on the side. My husband had the muscles which was a large enough portion to be a meal and the langoustine. Terrific pouring olive oil and bread on the table. Good music and the owner checked on us during the meal. Fun cocktail menu in the spirit of Valentines day!

We had not been to Pietro since the Pandemic began. We were glad to see that they had tables separated both in the inside and and in their out door extension. Food was good, my wife had a pasta dish and I had the branzino which was prepared at the table. We got a big portion of mussels for an appetizer. They were good but on the small side. We would definitely go back.

Nice experience. Owner , Pietro was very endearing and appreciative . He treats his patrons like family. Food was very good - close to hone made. He made the Buccatini with calcio e peppe in the main room from scratch. This made the experience have a homy feel to it. The music was a bit too loud - the genre of music was very upbeat.

The food is excellent. Portions are more than enough which makes me very happy especially when prices are higher than average. Wide range of wine choices for all types and price points. Due to covid-19 an outdoor tent was setup and for January it was a bit cold but not terrible, you may want to bring a sweater in case your seated in the tent area. Back to the food. I ordered a pasta dish which was the special for the evening, Farfalle al Salmone for $28.00, pasta apeared to be homemade, very fresh and so was the salmon. Fish was soft and melted in your mouth, the cream sauce was good too. The portion was big and I had to take the rest home. My wife ordered Pork Saltimbocca, which was a large pork chop cooked to perfection and with all the saltimbocca fixens. Dessert was the panna cotta which we enjoyed together. I highly recommend this spot.

Overpriced based on quality of food. Server was polite and attentive. If I was asked for a recommendation for an Italian restaurant, I would not mention Pietro, but if I was with someone who had their heart set on going there, I would make it work.

We were outside and were told that it would be warm but it was cold and then hot and cold and hot. Originally the waiter was rushing us and then we couldn’t get his attention. The food was amazing and flavorful. The food alone is worth the trip. The service was not so great.

Peitro's has been consistently outstanding in all categories. So popular on the weekends, I am told by many friends, when it can have a higher noise level when packed (what place does not), I dine out typically during the week (I am fortunate that my schedule permits this). I am grateful they are open Mondays as they are without doubt, the best available that day in the St. James wide catchment area- authentic, with an outstanding selection of creative food and wine list and outstanding service. If you think you are beyond this area, it is well worth the trip:) For the remainder of the week, there is some competition that they can match in value!
Enjoy!

This is the second time they kept us waiting 45 minutes past our reservation time for a table. Not to mention they don’t have enough real estate to keep people waiting.....we weren’t the only ones. It was quite annoying to have to stand in a small crowded space for 45 minutes past reservation time waiting to be seated. They clearly over book this place on a regular basis. Not to mention their parking lot isn’t equipped to handle a crowd that size so it’s nearly impossible to park in their lot and there isn’t on street parking available. Due to the large crowd the staff took an excessive amount of time to take our other and serve our food. I brought this to the attention to multiple staff members and the only thing a got was a weak and empty apology. I can’t see myself going here again anytime soon
