Devin was unbelievably amazing. I didn’t even order after our first appetizer dish. He helped us decide that and we just let him take the wheel for the rest of the 6 dishes we ordered. The food was unreal and I can’t wait to come back! Definitely go and if you do, ask for Devin. He’s amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Great bar and bartender. Wonderful menu for sharing amongst a party of 6. Thanks and well done!
This is my fifth time at Proxi. It has not disappointed even once and I could eat there several more times before I tire of it. Delicious every time.
Delicious, creative, satisfying....
We went for my birthday and were thrilled with the cuisine, specialty cocktails and friendly knowledgeable service. Highly recommend!
We absolutely love Proxi! From the manager, Mallory, to the bar manager, Jess, and literally every member of the team - they could not be more welcoming every visit. The food is phenomenal - fabulous flavors, interesting combinations and plenty of variety. Definitely one of the best brunches (and dinners) in the city. Thank you again!
Excellent food as always
We sat at the counter -the best place to sit. Watching all the action in the Kitchen and the servers.
Food, service was above and beyond.
Disappointed- service was disjointed, staff were either confused or brusque. Food was ok - would not recommend.
The serve was the worst we have had at Proxi. We have typically had very good experiences but this server wasn’t careful when it came to my severe dairy allergy (that results in hospitalization) and I had to point things out to him several times that he wasn’t accurate on. Had I not double checked two of the items (after he first told me it was safe) there could have been a very bad result,
In addition he forgot to put food items in we ordered.
We will come back but never want him as our server again. I would like a manager to follow up with me.
Creative, delicious cuisine served by congenial, knowledgeable staff made for a delightful evening.
We live in the far western suburbs and dont get downtown for dinner much, but to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, we decided to splurge. Two of our foodie friends both recommended Proxi and we were not disappointed. We had a truly delightful evening. Our waitress was wonderful and dealt with our noobness with great patience. The food was spectacular, especially the scallops, and the tres leche cake for dessert was to die for. Just thinking about the experience puts a smile on my face!
Yes, but the server seemed like she didn't know the menu. When we asked for a wine list at brunch, she didn't seem to know which wines were white or red (the menu wasn't very clear). There were 3-4 wines on the list, so it seemed odd that she didn't know.
Good value. One of only a few restaurants in the immediate area taking reservations for Saturday brunch. That said, to book a table for any meal, do it early, not on the day you wish to dine, as I tried on Friday evening; they fill up fast. Food (at brunch) seems mainly Far Eastern cuisine, (not Chinese), but a good variety and well prepared. Am from out of town and unfamiliar with the area, but enjoyed it.
Delicious and easy for family dinner.
Enjoyed dinner celebrating an anniversary. Meal was quite good.
One of the best restaurants I have been in Chicago in the last 3 years.
I ended up sorting dinner on short notice for 6 people total on a Thursday night. I was thrilled when Proxi popped up as an option. Every bite was amazing, and the shared plates were great to let people try things, share, interact and discuss!
There wasn’t a dish that I didn’t love! The amount of detail that went into each bite gave each small plate a unique flavor and texture. I enjoyed trying multiple cuisines rather than going to another restaurant and getting one large plate of the same dish. One small but important aspect that I appreciated was the half moon shape tables that allowed our larger group to easily chat with one another. All of these combined made for a wonderful dining experience!
The fried elote is a must! Everything we had was amazing.
Fun dishes, we really liked it! Highlights were the charred oysters, black pepper pork and the whole grilled fish. We sat at the bar which is fun but we were at the end and it took a while for our server to come tend to us. I would definitely go back!
My husband and I went here prior to a play and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The space is amazing. The drinks were superb and the food is slightly overhyped but VERY good. My favorites dishes were the potatoes carbonara and the kalbi beef. Would definitely go back.
The service was phenomenal all around (Steve was our primary server)!
We arrived and were seated in a lovely tan color booth with a great view of the rest of the restaurant. Love the design and the lighting. Immediate service with great drinks both cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks for my teenagers.
As for the food the Elotes were so good ... from here we consistently got served wonderful dishes such as Vietnamese crepe, yellowtail and pomelo salad, pepper chop pork... also had amazing desserts.
Can’t wait to come back and try more
We were loving our night at Proxi. Seated on time for a 5:30 reservation on a Monday night.
The plates were all outstanding. Enough said. Everything.
Drinks were over priced and small. 😞
But, it was the service that was surprising. Our waiter disappeared and three others came at different times and it felt like they were “hustling” us.. we didn’t understand since there were empty tables, PLUS they never said anything to us. We would have stayed longer just to annoy but had trains to catch.
If you need our table, two things to consider:
Tell us and offer to buy us a drink at the bar
Have a time limit posted at reservation time upfront.
If you were considerate to us and talked to us, of course we would have been considerate in return.
Very meat/fish focused. The waiter said there were,"vegetarian options off menu", but there was just one- the crepe that they prepare without the pork belly.... Not super interesting as described. We tried the dumplings, the zucchini, the tempura elote, and the pumpkin- all delicious. We also tried the "potatoes carbonara"prepared without the bacon. Bland and even on their own, didn't taste fresh. My friend had the lamb kabob which she said was like basically gyro meat, she wasn't thrilled. The tiki cocktail was a bit overtly infused with Chile, making it slightly complicated to drink. The summer salt cocktail was much more delicious. The one ingredient that could've elevated our experience was probably our waiter. He was awkwardly unfriendly. Disappointing. Might try this place again with some more veg options and request someone a bit more interested in the guest experience.
Great tasting food and good service but the portion sizes are very small. Despite ordering the recommended 3 dishes per person with dessert in addition, we left hungry so ate elsewhere afterwards. Desserts were correctly portioned.
Food was terrific. Try anything on menu and you will be happy. Server seemed like she’d rather be elsewhere. Okay wines by the glass. Restaurant noisy but you could hear people in your group pretty well.
Food was excellent. As was the service. And we loved the space. Also the drinks are outstanding.
Went with two friends and enjoyed about 10 plates. Everything was full of flavor and server was spot on with the recommendations. Only thing holding back 5 stars on the food was the lack of quality desserts. I wish more attention was paid to the dessert menu as the main menu. Highly recommend.
Service was excellent. Everyone was attentive. Very creative touch to international traditional items.
Amazing food. Sad that they ran out of the drinks I wanted to try. But overall, we had a good time.
Wonderful tastes, great service, a bit pricey for small-ish portions. Great fun’
This is a very nice place to dine. The restaurant is very nice as well as the service. Food is good and the wine list interesting. The noisiness maybe was too high.
Loved it! Food was really good and service was pretty quick.
Found Proxi on a list of up and coming restaurants in Chicago. Was not disappointed. Think upscale, creative tapas. Menu is divided into veggie, fish, and meat; we took a bit from all three. Swordfish was sublime, closely followed by bean dumplings. And there’s a decent wine list. Will put on my list of places to visit again when I return to Chicago.
Terribly slow and inattentive service and extremely overpriced food. The food is fine, not great. The drinks are way too expensive and too our there to be good. Based on what we observed, a ton of people were complaining about the awful service. Two women made a huge scene probably justifiably. 5-person dinner with 2 drinks per person ended up $450 and we were all hungry at the end and extremely unsatisfied with the poor service. Our waiter (Darryl, Darren?) would leave us without water, drinks or any type of check-in for over half an hour on end. Just NO all around.
The hostess and host were less than friendly. We asked to add a person to our reservation and clearly, we were asking for someone's left kidney. We were informed that we had to get out by a certain time, but the wouldn't seat us - even though all of us were there minus the one that was added. We were rushed and reminded 15 times by the server that we had to give up the table - although when we left - on time - there were empty tables through the restaurant.
I have a lot of business dinners - but I won't be going to Proxi again. I don't want to put anyone out and make them actually be kind to customers.
The food is either too salty or too greasy. I did not enjoy the experience. Servers lack experience and did not do a good job.
Went for brunch on Sunday, the atmosphere was lovely. The food was delicious and unique. Not your standard fare and the service was great. Definitely recommend Proxi, looking forward to trying their shares plate dinner menu.
