New name but same great food and service
Consistently great food and service. Did not disappoint. My guests were most impressed and pleased with their meals, too.
For some reason we were charged automatic gratuity on a party of two which I never heard of before. The steak was very rare when asked for medium.
We waited for greater than 5 minutes to be greeted. All the food was bland. I had lamb which was cooked perfectly but tasted like nothing. My woman had the prime NY strip which was also cooked perfectly but was bland. We ordered mushrooms and asparagus as well. It was bland. We had to salt and pepper everything we ordered. All that for a bill greater than $200? Really dissatisfied
We started with escargot, shared prime rib and ended with chocolate mousse pie! Everything was outstanding. The bar is a great place too!
Great Birthday dinner!
What a great experience. My family celebrated my dad 65th birthday and it was amazing. Our waiter was one for the books. He made sure our party of 9 had everything we needed and more. Our food was fresh hot and on time. The drinks was good and worth the money.
We will be back soon.
This is our first time here. The food and drinks were good. Our service was excellent. I’d go again.
Loved my dining experience and food. The waiter was patient, professional and punctual.
Beautiful restaurant inside a hotel. Unfortunately, the Blue cheese wedge not that tasty. I did love the mashed potatoes & Prime Rib. Waitstaff not very attentive. Could use a wider selection of white wines from New Zealand.
Overall the food was excellent, very overpriced, ambiance nice. I would go back to this restaurant and I would recommend it to others.
Great food snd experience, as always.
The food was fair, service was good, atmosphere very dated. I overheard the food server ask the table next to me if it was their first time at the restaurant? The elderly, patron responded, "we've been coming here for years, this is probably our 20th time". Such a basic miss for a returning customer. I felt embarrassed for the establishment. Don't you track your customer's visits?
It was an excellent evening, the food and service was outstanding! It’s so nice to see the restaurant is as good as it has always been! I’ll be back often!
As always this place is a winner for a special occasion. Loved it when it was Prime Rib, and it is still excellent choice for dinner. Everything was perfectly prepared. Made for a great evening.
Surprised they would automatically add a 20% tip for a party of 2....we had to request larger and more appropriate glasses for the bottle of wine we ordered.
After I was taken to the table (I was on my own) after quite a while of waiting I finally had to ask someone for a menu. And then a drink. And it took me 3 attempts to ask for a waiter so I could place my order. Each time I was told that he was coming. (So is Xmas I thought.)
I ordered what I was told was the house speciality which is Prine Rib but if this was their speciality I can't imagine how awful their regular choices must be. I specified medium rare and it came very rare and tepid in temperature. I had a couple of mouthfuls and meantime this was not cooked appropriately. To be fair, they took it back and cooked it some more. But when they brought it back it was 'very well done.' As in, completely dark and overcooked. Not well done!
I gave up that point. I don't like to give negative reviews but this is an expensive restaurant typical of many up0scale steak houses and nobody asked me if I had a good meal, even though the bill was well over $100. Shabby service, poor food and lacking in any atmosphere.
This was my "go-to" restaurant for Prime Rib in Philly when is was The Prime Rib. This restaurant then tried using the name 1701 Locust and then 1701 Steaks and Seafood. I did try it our post "The Prime Rib" and was extremely disappointed in the meat quality. (okay so let's chalk that up to COVID).
They have again changed their name to Rittenhouse Grill. So, in the mood for a great piece of Prime Rib, we went downtown to give it a try. Finding a great piece of Prime Rib (on the bone of course) is not an easy task. So downtown we went. I was not disappointed. The prime rib was excellent.
Steak was not good
Pianist TOM LAWTON'S playing must have had something to do with making this one of the best meals our group of four has ever experienced!
Potato skins appetizer, so delicioso, with a tart and tantalizing horseradish sauce and a sour cream dip. Tuna Tartare was subtle and splendid with the tastiest marinade. Mashed Potatoes, full-bodied with an excellent gravy. Lobster bisque was thick and flavorful. Roast chicken cooked to perfection. Grilled artichoke was a true highlight, oooooeeeeeeee!! String beans were okay, not fantastic. Potatoes au gratin so cheesily yummy.
Desserts were scrumptios:
Creme brulee was the pinnacle, followed by an unforgettably peefect ice cream fudge sundae and raspberry sorbet that hit the spot.
And all this plus Great service.
Exorbitant prices, but that wasn't a surprise.
A truly wonderful meal and music!
I felt judged the entire time I was there. The waiter was really condescending to us the whole time because we are a young couple. We just wanted an entree and drinks and he went on about most people order this and that and constantly trying to upsell. When we said no twice to dessert, he brought it out anyway and said it was "restaurant policy" to eat dessert on your birthday. Which would have been really nice if it was complimentary, but he charged us for it. So we paid for a dessert we didn’t ask for. He ruined the mood which was a shame because we were looking forward to that dinner. Judgy waiters aside, I’m surprised this place is so highly rated; the food was good (my dish was definitely not worth what I paid), but definitely not the best steak in Philly.
We love the outstanding Chilean sea bass and the escargot was also amazing
Derrick our server was amazing. Food was delicious.
So glad to be dining at the now Rittenhouse Grill. Name change aside, all was perfect with dinner and service.
I throwback food, throwback look, makes you feel like you are in the 1940s. The service was amazing the food was excellent and a selection of drinks was great! My favorite part is the space between tables, it feels private while still being around others My only mild criticism is the price, which is a little high compared to all the great restaurants on Rittenhouse Square.
Comfortable seating, there were only four tables of guests during our time there.
We were a party of two and thought that we clearly ordered our 3 courses. I asked for oysters rockefeller, "then" a wedge salad, and prime rib with creamed spinach. My companion asked to start with lobster bisque, then ceasar salad, then prime rib with baked potato. The server brought the bisque, oysters and both salads at the same time. When questioned, he said that they always bring all of the appetizers together. He offered to take something back to hold in the kitchen, but we declined, fortunately the table was large enough for everything. I don't recall ever having a wedge salad anywhere without crumbled bacon on top, but the server said they don't do that! The prime rib was good as was key lime pie for dessert.
Lastly, when the server brought the check he told us that the tip (20%) had already been added, no explanation why for a party of 2, also no mention of this anywhere beforehand. When he returned after processing the credit card, he again made a point of reminding us that the tip had been included so he crossed that section off on the card receipt. I think the added tip issue alone would be a reason not to return.
Love dining here. The experience is always perfect, the meats prepared exactly as requested. Great side dishes, attention to detail on old-school lovely service. Best of all with a partner who has hearing issues, it is always possible to have a conversation and enjoy being able to hear each other! Another perfect birthday celebration ... so glad the quality is maintained from previous ownership!
Food was excellent. The dessert choices could be a little more interesting.
First time and last time
The roasted chicken was dry…The sides are small and not tasty at all…We paid $388 for nasty food….Never again
My husband enjoyed his Father's Day surprise dinner!
We always have an excellent meal with great service at this restaurant!
John was a great server. He was engaging, told jokes, and enhanced our evening!! Thank you! The martinis, oysters, dinners, sides and desserts were great. The Oregon Pinot Noir went with everything. A perfect Fathers Day Eve dinner. Just exceptional!!
Veal chop was below standards and tasteless. Small quantities of several side dishes despite high prices. Bread not very sophisticated
The ambiance was amazing, I really enjoyed the piano player as well. The food was amazing, our server was light-hearted and dealt with all our demands with ease!
Excellent food and service! I recommend: potato skins, shrimp cocktail, and lobster bisque for appetizers. Prime rib and filet mignon for steak. Cheesecake and raspberry sorbet for dessert.
Surprised when waiter said he added tip to our bill, especially without asking and / or telling us why, and how much he tipped himself.
Avoid. The style and music is the only thing this restaurant has going for it. Food wasn't awful, but definitely not a high end restaurant that you would have expected. Add in terrible, slow service that involved us having to ask them to remove dirty plates multiple times and I never need to go back here again.
Wonderful service and food … truly excellent. The room itself was a bit underwhelming… stark, easy way too over lighted…. Like a classroom not evening dining room, old cheap suspended ceiling tiles…. This place could use some monetary investment and a dimmer switch and it would be lovely.
The piano player was good technically and artistically he just needed to slow his tempo by 20% to make it more of an evening dining experience vs a race to the finish
Having critiqued the surroundings … you come for the food and service experience primarily and that was excellent I would certainly return.
Elegant dining ambiance, gourmet food, excellent wine and service and great jazz music at an appropriate background volume level
