South End Buttery
Always enjoy this place. Good vibe, nice staff and good food.
The mushroom ravioli is the beast!!!!
Very good place for lunch/brunch. Great Turkey Burger and Parmesian Fries are fantastic. Great local place in the south end.
the downstairs is cozy but very crowded and loud (especially if there are children there) upstairs is nicer with tall tables. the baked goods are fantastic and unique. food was very good. it was pricey but worth it for a treat
Excellent food. Highly recommend the Buttery if you can get a reservation at a quiet time.
Both of our entrees were mediocre at best. My pasta way over cooked and my wife hamburger bun a soggy mess. The appetizer was very good however.
Great comfy cozy atmosphere!
Everything was fine, but that was kind of it. The food was ok, but not really special for the price. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed by weekend crowds.
The food and wine were very good. Our waitress wasn’t very personable. She got our order wrong as well as the order for the table next to us. Instead of apologizing she said “Oh, I heard .........”. Otherwise it was a nice experience.
I just finished my salmon/lentils/parsnip puree/carrot leftovers from our meal at The Buttery a couple nights ago. It was still delicious (and I must confess to eating it right out of the fridge). So often restaurant salmon is served overcooked, but this was perfect. My husband had the deliciously fiery shrimp fra diavolo. We started with the marinated olives - really good and more plentiful than we were expecting. The friendly, knowledgeable, professional Kassandra was our waiter and every other staff member with whom we interacted was great. We're always happy with our meals at The Buttery ~ definitely give it a try.
The food was fantastic and our server was awesome (the Breakfast Sandwich really hit the spot, and the home fries were some of the best I've had)! The price was great as well, especially for the area. Only concern was that there wasn't much room but even this wasn't that bad. Would definitely come back
I was there for brunch with my husband on my birthday. We were seated downstairs where I’d never been before, but was quickly disappointed when we were placed at a table directly next to the coat closet/extra chairs area. I understand the need to utilize all your floor space in a generally popular restaurant, and it looked like there was a small elevator of some sort in that area too. But then put up a curtain, or some kind of separation screen- the food offered is too expensive to be sitting in view of where a server was changing his sweatshirt.
Food was great and service was good but a little slow. The noise level downstairs was especially difficult sitting in the bench tables.
Solid experience for brunch . Food was fine but not memorable except Riccotta fritters
This has become our go-to place for pre-theater dinner when going to the Calderwood/Boston Center for the Arts. Good food, excellent value, nice atmosphere, friendly and courteous staff.
Excellent place for brunch. I have never been disappointed with a meal there!
Slow service. Mediocre food.
Such a wonderful place!! Black Forrest ham was delicious as was the blueberry scone with clotted cream! Best breakfast on our visit to Boston!
The food was great but the service struggled a bit. I think they must’ve had a crunch on their waitstaff that day. We had a 12:30 reservation and weren’t seated until 12:45. They took a bit to bring our orders out but we had ordered an appetizer so we weren’t pressed about it. But when they finally did bring out our orders, they only brought 3 of the 4 meals we ordered and none of the sides. They took an additional 10 minutes to bring out the sides and *30!!!!* additional minutes to bring the 4th meal out. Would recommend if you have the time but not if you’re in a rush.
Great spot for a weekend or even weeknight dinner. Service and food was great. Extensive wine list. I’ll be back for sure.
Sat outside, it was a beautiful night! Food was delicious.
The South End Buttery has become one of my favorite places to go to in Boston. From the food, to the staff, to all the dogs that walk by I find myself to be very comfortable there and truly fulfilled upon leaving.
This particular night I met a good friend and she was visiting for the first time. She very much enjoyed herself and raves about the food, service, and the overall experience.
The bartender is a master! I recommend the brussel sprout appetizer and homemade chips. The burgers and truffle fries were outstanding.
We enjoyed Sunday brunch today here! I got the Buttery Breakfast which is a nice portion sized breakfast. The Nutella fritters were amazing to start off! Pancakes were wickedly fluffy and sweet. It’s a must try.
our table was basically forgotten by the waitstaff. the food was unimpressive.
It was very loud in the small downstairs room. The service was very very slow (it took ages to get even just water or someone to take our orders). But the waitstaff was friendly and the food was delicious. Not well suited for conversations.
Service and management were great. Appetizers were also phenomenal
Service and food was fairly mediocre. We decided to try the restaurant based on all the great reviews that we had read.
I have to say we were not impressed on both counts. What irked me most was they had to brew fresh tea for my iced tea but 20 minutes later, I was still waiting for it and there was not an ETA for completion . I should have been offered hot tea with a glass of ice.
On the way out, I see my server on her phone. She probably could have spent that time checking on my tea and our table.
I have been brunching here for ten years. Its my favorite place to bring visitors and have a guaranteed delicious meal. Staff was friendly, food was great. Always a pleasure.
I really like this restaurant for both brunch and dinner. the food and service are cute and its a cute place. there's something about the space though that doesn't work well. We moved tables twice. It's also way too noisy for the over 50 crowd.
South End Buttery is my favorite spot for weekend brunch. Because it’s such a popular favorite,I always make a reservation 5-7 days in advance. Today, my confirmed reservation was not showing in their system. The two hostesses seemed baffled and a bit lost on what to do next, given the 90+ min wait. A gentleman server appeared, took over, shifted some tables, and made sure we were seated immediately. I wish I got his name, but we really appreciated his efforts!
Everything was good! Party of six seated at ground level by the window. Good service and food.
Great food, great drinks, good ambiance
Unbelievably bad service. Food was ok. Not great. Booked a table for Saturday brunch. Although the restaurant was *maybe* 1/4 full, had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Waited another ten before we got s glass of water. Eventually the server took our order ... food arrived. No “do you need anything?” Just drop the plates and dash. Not happy.
This was a great little find for a late brunch/lunch after arriving in Boston for a few days stay. We sat inside by the bar in the back , the food came quickly once we ordered and it was delicious. Eggs benedict, yummy salads, and sandwiches. We just discovered this part of Boston and really love the neighborhood and the little cafes. It was a nice day to be walking around, a little hot but inside the restaurant was very pleasant. Didn't get to try the pastries but will return!
Customer service was top-notched! Love the waitress! But I went for the food! And the food did not meet expectations. Pancake was dry; it’s used to be super buttery! My egg Benedict made me very sad. The egg Benedict was served cold. Super disappointed, prob wouldn’t go again.
We loved eating outside! Service was quick and food delicious!
The food was good, and the cocktails were excellent. The server liked to chat about upcoming drinks on the menu. Overall a really nice experience and I look forward to visiting again.
