Great food and great service. The uni that they serve are the best that I have EVER had. Three different varieties and each tastes different. A special place for sure. Each item that they served were delicious and fresh. You are there to experience the taste of the fresh fish and ingredients rather than 'soy sauce' over fish.
One of the best experience and wonderful Omakase. Came here to celebrate a very special friends birthday and was blowed away. An intimate setting with a long beautiful wood table with subtle ceramics imported in the back wall where all the chefs were standing. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and very helpful. I was afraid it may be a bit stuffy being so high end but, I was wrong and my expectations were pleasantly surpassed. Everyone that worked with one another seemed genuinely happy and treated each other with respect. It was very interactive and informative, each course the service staff came by to carefully explain or show a picture of the fish that was imported from Japan from an I pad. The Executive Chef Yohei Matsuki and his team were so harmonious and wonderful. We were really lucky that night because also a A special Executive Chef Sakagami Akifumi from Japan’s Ginza Onodera was there as well. He was so funny and charming and made great light hearted jokes throughout the night with everyone which made the experience so pleasant and so warm. They were so sweet to even send out a really good dessert for my friends birthday and made her feel special. The Chef and service staff personally greets and thanks everyone as they leave. I usually don’t write any reviews but this restaurant was so special I wanted to share.
Ginza Onodera definitely deserves there 2 Star Michelin and everyone should try this place once in their life. From the the atmosphere, to the ambience, to the attention to detail of service and warm hearted talented Chefs, and of course the amazing food. Truly a great memorable experience that I won’t ever forget.
Amazing experience! Thank you!
Hands down one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to (including Ginza in Tokyo). Everything about the meal was perfect. If you are looking for a true sushi dinner this is your place.
Everything was perfect down to the last detail. A true Michelin restaurant. The staff is waiting on each guest hand and foot and do not even allow the slightest detail to be out of place. Very friendly and knowledgeable sushi chefs that were happy to guide us through each of the omakase courses. Fish was superb flown in from Japan. Very pricey but you pay for what you get. Thanks to the whole team at Ginza Onodera.
Great experience! The staff is very friendly - they show the pictures of fish and uni that we have. Very fresh food.
The sushi here are just incredible 😋 Best sushi place I've ever been to and that's the only reason I drive 1 hr to here. Love it sooooo much.
Sushi chefs and staff made very special dinner for my husband's birthday. We appreciate every dishes prepared with care and love for seafood. Thank you very much.
Wow wow wow. I thought I would have had every kind of sushi at this point in my illustrious food traveling career. This place taught me otherwise. Insane preparations and flavors. Wow wow wow. Chiharu! She was amaze!
Superb fish from Japan. Perhaps the best I ever tasted and I have been to great places .
Most amazing dining experience in LA!
They made a change on the menu and add some dishes!! Super fun & good:D
A -- MAAAA -- ZING !! First time, here; defiinitely coming back. Had about 24 dishes served to us all told. Other than the miso soup, (nothing special and too salty), loved all that was served to us.
Went to this fabulous sushi place for celebrating me and my boyfriend's birthday today~ They gave us two pairs of chopsticks for birthday gifts and wrote a sweet note on my dish!!! (we've been there for couple times)
That's just soooo sweet and I strongly recommend this place for people who are interested in sushi!!
They definitely deserves that price!
Beat Japanese meal ever. Freshest fish, perfect execution and friendliest and most efficient service.
We are going back again, hopefully soon. The service and food reminded me of Japan, particularly Ginza in Tokyo. The service is very Japanese - no tips required, courtesy is top notched, decor, plates and cups are hand crafted and original, unique to each customer. Food is subtle which is what I like. At least that night, all the food was imported from Japan. After we are done, the chefs walked us out. Chatted with them a bit and they are all from Japan rotating all 5 locations (LA, NYC, Tokyo, Hawaii, Shanghai) which I personally like because it keeps the authenticity and culture of serving and food. It will be hard to find a restaurant this Japanese.
True mastery and artisanship in omakase
The top quality and the freshest seafood prepared so meticulously, each piece is a memorable taste.
Most amazing service and quality of food! Would definitely come back again.
It is a little pricey choice of Omakase course but well worth it!!!
Outstanding dinner at this Michelin star restaurant! They were actually getting flower arrangements delivered during our dinner congratulating them on their 2nd star!
Excellent service, amazing omakase edomae sushi! We’ve now been to Onodera in Tokyo, Shanghai and now LA. Excellent at every turn.
One of the best omakase I’ve had in LA. We were served by Chef Yohei himself, he did a good job explaining all the different seafood from Japan. Overall a great dining experience for us!
One of the best sushi restaurants in Los Angeles.
This is the most extraordinary Japanese restaurant in this country. Virtually all the fish is Japanese, specially and specifically ordered by Chef Yohei. In terms of quality and freshness, variety, presentation and sheer imagination, Onodera has no peer.
Great ingridients but the chef is pretty bad. Never in my life have eaten sushi that was that loosely made. I could not pick up the sushi with my chopstick because then the sushi would fall apart, so I could only pick up the sushi with my hand so that the sushi doesn’t fall apart. Been to many omakase places and this one is certainly the worst one.
Food is great! Very fresh, special fish and uni. Service is perfect! It’ll leave us a sweet memory of our anniversary.
Such a nice experience!
The presentation and food is outstanding. The best sushi in America.
I have heard great things about Sushi Ginza from friends and had high hopes for it. I choose this restaurant to celebrate my husbands birthday. And I had to say it didn’t live up to the hypes.
The restaurant is overall easy to find and valet parking is validated which is great. The only serve Omakase meal. It is $300 person for total about 23 dishes. 4 sashimi, 4 hot dishes, 13 nigiri, egg, dessert and soup. They serve edo style which is the old Tokyo style, part of the raw fishes are marinated for smoother taste and texture.
The highlight for me is the sushi rice. I believe the rice is the soul of the nigiri. And sushi Ginza nailed it. The rice is the right temperature, texture, sweetened and sourness. They porptioned appropriately with sushi and really just melted in your mouth. I could have a bowl of it !! Another favorite is the fish liver- hot dish. It’s creamy but the favor is light and refreshing. Some of the nigiri courses are great but not all. The edo style can make some of the sushi too salty.
The reason this restaurant , in my opinion, its not worth the price -
1. The Toro tastes too greasy- I know it’s a funny description because Toro is basically a piece of fat. But the way they prepare the it made it taste too heavy and loose the fragrance and freshness.
2. the atmosphere - the waitress are really friendly. The space is big and bright. But through out the process unlike other fine dining experience we didn’t get to have many interactions with the chief. When a dish was served they don’t bother to introduced the ingredient more. I need to ask them for more information. The waitress will then bring out a tablet with the picture of the fishes they took to show us what kind of the fishes they use. I wish they show us the actual fish or prepare them on a paper form that will look more elegant. When I pay $300 I’m looking for an overall experience. The food, the environment and the atmosphere. And sushi ginza didn’t deliver that for me.
Most authentic omakase experience in Los Angeles. Hefty price tag but worth it if you’re into this kind of thing. BYOB is a good idea.
If you can speak Japanese, the dining experience will be better. But in all it's a good place to hang out with family and close friends.
Amazing experience every time!
Amazing place amazing team!
Outstanding Japanese food and chef. Highly recommend
The experience is good. We had a good meal overall and the service is better than 99% of American restaurants
Great service and food!
Simply stated...The epitome of Japanese cuisine
The food was the best I’ve had anywhere. But for $300 pp, one expects better than a strip mall and fluorescent lights on a sushi bar. My only complaint is to go either way—either enhance the ambiance and keep the prices as is or lower the prices so that you feel the experience was fair to all sides.
Everything was exquisite and the experience, service, and atmosphere was like being transported to Japan for an evening. Chef Yohei was super nice and his knife skills are a show in itself to watch while eating dinner. I cannot remember everything we ate, but it was phenomenal and some of the best sushi I've ever eaten.
