I ordered a $50 bottle of 300 ml sake. When the bill was brought to me I had been charged $110 for the 720 ml version of the same bottle. When I pointed out the error, without a word of apology, the waitress brought me a new bill with the sake bottle now charged at $60. When I reminded her that the price on the menu was $50, she wordlessly brought me a third bill with the correct charge. The restaurant charges 20% for service. I paid $44 for the service of being robbed. And to add insult to injury, the restaurant has a line for tip (they don't even call it additional tip), when you sign the bill. If you want to be robbed blind, this is your place.

Visiting DC for work from Seattle and often travel to Japan where I get great omakase and service (in Seattle too) so maybe my standards are too high. First of all, the omakase chef was not Mr. Ogawa as the website will leave you to believe. The main chef was not even Japanese and neither were any of his staff or team. I wonder if this restaurant has recently been sold by Mr. Ogawa. The omakase was ok but not worth almost $350 for one person with 2 beers. Also there are fruit flies and small gnats all over the restaurant and they attempt to land on the food. This restaurant would not pass basic Japanese standards for quality and cleanliness. I am sorry to write these things but I hope the ownership of this restaurant can take better care of their premises and also be up front about the exorbitant cost of the food. I would expect a near complete remodel and a much better experience for $350 per person.

Way overpriced. After an 800 dollar bill, the waitress told us to “hurry on up” and leave while we were still drinking our 200 bottle of sake. The ambiance was bad; lots of fruit flies. The biggest disparity between quality of food and service I’ve ever seen

The food was delicious! The sushi was so fresh, presentation was beautiful, and compilations were unique. However, the bland, cheap and rundown exterior and interior take a lot away from the experience. There is not one piece of artwork on one wall. I did happen to notice a beautiful mural on the ceiling when leaving. Most problematic were the gnats that attacked our table for a solid hour — falling in my husband’s beer, etc. I can get past the lack of ambience for great food, but the gnats will make it hard for me to want to go back. Maybe in cold weather?

It’s shocking that so much was charged for the level of lack ambiance service and overall food! Disturbing that the server was not educated on the food or sake! The decor was ridiculous. It felt like a nail salon at best and was filthy.

Very good experience with good food. Service is excellent and early dinner is quiet environment. Overall food is good for me, but my wife did not like a kind of seasoning in some sushi. I would recommend here but price tag is pretty high for special event. It is good time to share special date with my wife.

Really special omakase experience with whimsy and elegance served together. Each piece and dish were carefully selected and prepared. Everything tasted right at the peak and out of approx 25 small bites that’s no small feat! Highly recommend Sushi Ogawa 😊

The omakase menu for Valentine’s day was excellent with all the right quantity, variety, freshness and taste. The sushi is outstanding! The service was more lax and after being seated at 8 for a 7:30pm reservation, we had to ask, after 15 minutes of being seated, for someone to serve us water and at least take our drinks order. Waiters were too busy setting up tables for people waiting in line than actually serving those already seated. All in all, we will come back on a regular night but were disappointed after spending $350 for 2 on Valentine’s day.

Unfortunately my experience at Sushi Ogawa was not good at all. We were told “Omakase” (which generally means an experience with the chef wherein they interact and cater your experience) but in this V-Day celebration I ended up making two reservations (one at Sushi Hachi and one here) I gave up the Sushi Hachi one because the time was 9pm and was actual Omakase, but we decided aince we got an earlier time at Ogawa, we’d go there instead. In hind sight I wish I went to Hachi instead, Ogawa’s “Omakase” was sit at a dining table and get served a premade sent of food that was not considered uniquely an “Omakase” experience. Also the owner came to me and asked me to tip more...so yeah not coming back.

Food was okay but well below my expectation with the price charged ($80 per course). Please beware that the $80 course now does not include sashimi, which they charge $100. Service was mediocre. Will not come back.

We did the Omakase at the sushi bar. Everything was amazing! Chef Ogawa lovingly creates tasty morsels of the freshest fish and other treats.

The food was ok, there was a good variety of hot and cold food with the $100 omakase menu. I was comparing to comparable price in Seattle Appetizer - so so Sashimi - above average, not as fresh as I've had Soft shell crab tempura - ok Sushi - a good variety, lots of pieces. Again not as fresh as I might have expected Miso soup - 1 clam? Green tea mochi - Ok I think the quality was comparable to neighborhood sushi places - ok

They went out of their way to make our eleven year anniversary spectacular and memorable. The chef was masterful and charming. The service extraordinary. And the food was so incredible: the sushi melted in my mouth. Absolutely recommend to anyone looking for not just quality food but an experience.

We had heard good things from our native Japanese colleagues, and having lived in Japan for a couple years, we were excited for this meal. The place was empty except for us, which was fine, but given that we were the only people there, the service was excruciatingly slow. Painfully so. We are sushi/sashimi eaters for 20 years, and the fish was, on the whole, chewy and flavorless. We got the omakase, so we didn’t have much say, and it just wasn’t very good. I’m not sure I’ll give them a second chance.

The service was outstanding. But, would not recommend the "chef's choice". Highly recommend ordering off the ala carte menu. We chose to order the "Chef's choice", which was $100 for basically less expensive fish options. Although we had 2 courses of sashimi/sushi, we found that the same type of fish was served to us. We learned our lesson.
