We started with the bread and butter, which is amazing on its own, and added the beet hummus which took it to new levels! Then we had the five spice duck which had so many tiers of flavor that I could have been happy to eat the whole thing by myself. It was followed by the pork chop, best I have ever had with delicious greens and the grilled octopus, meaty and tender with a spicy sauce to accompany them. We ended on a sweet note with a lovely cheesecake with blueberry compote. All was cooked perfectly and more than the sum of its parts, just wonderful. The service was friendly and efficient, and the industrial space is quite charming. Highly recommend!

The Gem salad was amazing. I LOVED the sardine lemon dressing. Tops. The smoked pork chop entree was tasty but not especially tender. And the penne with cauliflower so so. The cheesecake with black currants was divine. The grapefruit gin cocktail was outstanding, as was the service. I would have been happy with just the salad, bread and cocktail. And it goes without saying that the fresh bread (I can’t remember which one we had) but it was a dark brown bread slathered with sesame seeds.

The host was incredibly rude. We arrived at 8:45 for an 8:30p reservation and were told to wait until “they had a table for us”. I guess they don’t know how to manage their restaurant and keep reservation times. Unfortunately this place has gone downhill since first opening and small things like this combined with the disgusting restroom will keep us from ever returning.

The food and ambience at Tartine Manufactory are terrific. The menu is extremely creative and everything is delicious. My one complaint is that the place is just too noisy. Nice energy from all the many diners but that in combination with music being pumped from somewhere is just too much. Makes having a simple conversation a real challenge.

One always forgets just what a gem this is. With something new and hip opening daily, this continues to produce not just amazing quality, but inspired cuisine. And of equal importance, incredibly interesting cocktails. Such a great spot. Wish I could have a meal plan.

The beet hummus is quite literally to die for. I realistically could've just eaten that + the sourdough and been the happiest little clam in the deep blue sea.

The food was excellent. The ambience was excellent. The waitress was the worst I’ve ever seen... she let the runners and bus staff tend to her tables while she went MIA for 45 minutes. After asking someone else for the check, she literally slung it at us and disappeared again. After getting the bus person to give our check with the credit card to he to run, she took an obscene amount of time with my Amex just to find out she ran it for the wrong check and then tried to blame it on the bus person which was super tacky. Other than that, we loved everything about it.

Drinks were over the top delicious, and the bread is reason alone to come here. I took my parents to dinner and it was quite loud, but we tried to talk over the noise and had a wonderful time. Very young and hip vibes!

Great bread of course! Octopus was too salty, and the beet hummus was a bad value given that it doesn’t come with bread. Cocktails were great!

The food and cocktails were excellent. I recommend dinner over brunch, only because I think the brunch is overrated (imho) and I don't like long waits. Make a reservation and there's no wait! And get the steak tartare because it's amazing!

As a note, don't bother putting in whether you're dining for a special occasion–they don't do anything with that info. I was there for my birthday, but there was zero acknowledgment of it.

They were not able to honor the reservation time inspite of us being prompt. We had to go check after 15 mins and ask and only then we were seated. Service was spotty, the hostess wasn’t particularly friendly nor helpful and the food was mediocre. Not sure what the hype about this place is all about.

Very salty?
Halibut fritters were really salty but just thought maybe they had inadvertently salted twice?
Then lentil soup came and same thing...
Maybe I’m missing something, is extra salty food a new thing, like the level of salt that makes your taste buds burn??
Maybe a hipster thing?
Disappointing

Food was excellent , and we are critical re: food! Great preparation and execution. Each dish was exceptionally creative. They hit it out of the park from start to finish. Highly recommend. I wouldn’t get the shrub again. It was $7 for a so-so beverage that was 50% ice cube. One more negative: knives desperately need sharpening and plates for sharing need to be larger.
Service was excellent!! Our server was gracious, efficient and personable. We will definitely go back.

Sadly, this restaurant was a disappointment for one listed on the Chronicle Top 100. The space is wonderful, open, pleasing to the eye and welcoming. The food, however, was mediocre on the evening we were there. A chicory salad was mounded with chicory--and little else to set it off. A small spoonful of diced beets and 4 or 5 mandarin slices with a small scoop of what seemed like a pistachio puree and just a hint of dressing. A 3/4" diameter base of the chicory should never have found its way into the bowl. The dish looked lovely but tasted unrelievedly bitter and monotonous. A pork chop was tough and overcooked. Though the accompanying roasted green onions and chopped snap peas were tasty in themselves, again the flavors never melded. The bread, which is not complimentary, was delicious and was the best part of the meal. The service was good to adequate. I don't expect to see this on the top 100 next year.

Anniversary trip to San Fran for 5 days. This was our farewell to San Fran dinner our last night. The food was pretty good - very foodie like we like it. Service was a little lacking... host was superb but waitress just lacked any personality. Ambiance was amazing. Location was great with accessible parking.

We had a wonderful dinner. The halibut small plate was full of flavor which didn’t overwhelm the taste of the fish. The asparagus was so sweet and fresh it tasted like spears of deliciousness. The beet humus was the perfect creaminess. For our main course we ordered steak which was cooked to perfection. It was surrounded by roasted potatoes with rosemary that were crunchy on the outside and buttery on the inside. All of the sauces were exquisite. We ordered extra bread to sop up every last bit. The bread, oh my goodness, was delicious.
The service was excellent as well. Attentive but not intrusive, friendly, kind and accommodating. Thank you

The food was good but not amazing. One of the dishes we ordered - spiced lentils, coconut-makrut lime sambal, soft egg - had too much going on. I love Indian food and make it all the time. We didn't finish it.
The grilled octopus, nduja, potato, salsa vasca was good - the salsa was particularly delicious.

The tres leches cake was delicious!!

The hostess was warm and engaging, our table great, the waitstaff knowledgable about all cocktails, wine and food. We chose bread with honey comb and cheese to start, a real no brainer, delish! The little gems salad was fresh and perfectly flavored. The goat cheese cheesecake stole the show, perfectly creamy and balanced with the strawberry orange compote on top.

It was less than ideal dinner experience. The food took over an hour to come after ordering and they forgot about the drink order and we never got it. They seemed unorganized and terribly coordinated with the kitchen and bar. The food was okay-halibut crudo was chewy as the steak and we were all disappointed with the overall quality of service and food. I don’t think we’ll be returning any time soon.

The little gem ceasar was sublime--so incredibly light and citrusy. We also had the signature bread and butter, the fermented vegetables, and the halibut crudo. For dessert, the semifreddo was fantastic. Split between two people it was the perfect amount of food--we both felt satisfied and not overly full. It was an absolutely lovely evening.

I came here for dinner and had their pork chop. It was a generous portion but the flavor was only okay and there was nothing special about it. It came with a slice of spoon bread which also was only okay and a dollop of tart applesauce. The very crispy Brussels sprouts were good but a bit oversalted. You have to pay an extra $6 for bread, which was an outrage, but the sesame bread and butter we got were excellent. I was especially disappointed with their selection of desserts. There were no pastries on the menu so we just skipped it. Perhaps brunch or lunch is better but I wouldn't recommend coming here for dinner.

We were so surprised by the lack of customer service. Our waiter Jacob & manager on that night could not care one bit about the customers.

One of our guests had to send her meal back because it was so hot. Nothing on the menu stated that it was spicey. Took 20 minutes to get him to address it, then another 20 to bring her a side of veggies to replace her meal.

No apologies, nothing... Good luck Tartine. There were a lot of empty tables for a Saturday night. I guess there is a reason.

Great ambiance. Not so great service or food. Not a dealbreaker in regard to the service as it was adequate. Yea we waited a while after being seated. And yea the server spent most of her time gazing out the window. But she was funny. The food though. Really salty. That's all I remember.
