What Insiders Are Saying
Tartine Manufactory in the Mission is a huge operation with excellent pastries, coffee, and ice cream, and dinner as well.
Disappointed. We went for dinner and the food was mediocre. We are not coming back.
Food was ok-- overpriced and overhyped. Ordered a few items and the only dish that stood out was the steak tartare appetizer. Also, service wasn't great.
Return visit was disappointing— hits and misses: Burrata on toast great but dinky compared to incomparable and generous wild mushroom/arugula Tartine; gem salad excellent. Asked our server whether $34 chicken entree was good to share and found very little chicken even for one— not even half a chicken breast with a small leg and thigh. Accompanying rice tasty but not crime fraiche-like addition. BE aware that menu on Open Table not necessarily up-to-date.
Great formal dining preparation in a less than formal setting.
Large group of diners create a noisy scene-Bay Area problem
I have been waiting to go to Tartine for years (I live in UT). I was worth it. The staff was wonderful and the food was great. Would definitely go again
Our waitress was dressed in a sloppy sweater like a day in when it’s raining. She stood at the counter a lot and didn’t ask us if we needed more bread. I ordered a glass of wine that never came and as she was hanging out at the counter she didn’t notice. She was rather blah and I have been there 3 other times and always had professional servers. Even my son who never complains said she wasn’t doing her job
Contemporary cuisine & Great wines by the glass selection!
Sooooo good! What a lovely experience. Food is excellent and unpretentious. Service was just lovely. Coming back for sure!
Everything was exceptional. Very responsive waitstaff despite the dinner rush. The appetizers were brought out in a thoughtful manner in courses prior to the mains. All of the food was divine.
Beautiful and delicious. Great service. Big, shareable portions. Pro Tip: GET THE BREAD!
We were new to the restaurant and the waitress didnt walk us through the menu. It wasn't until after we ordered and we would have ordered differently if she had been more helpful
The menu was excellent, the vibe is great can't beat that!
Food was good enough, but total experience was not great. Better for lunch than dinner
Came here on a date. The food was amazing and our waitress recommended some really great items. Was very cold near the door/windows but otherwise, had a great experience!
Bread is excellent but, overall, food is just Ok. The $37 chicken was not dry. The pomegranate that was in the brown rice was a nice twist but the brown rice itself was a tad undercooked.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable about all the food and beverage and eager to be sure everything is to your liking. True hospitality. The dishes are inventive and delicious. My second time here and I’m eager to go back again.
Good food. Fantastic dessert.
The celery/winter squash soup and little gems were excellent starters. The pork chop, Steak and squid ink pasta w Manila Clams were all prepared very well and definitely worth trying.
My favorite place to dine in SF. Each dish is a delicious treat. Can't wait to go back.
Tartine, in an appealing industrial space, has an incredibly creative menu, superb breads, and a happening vibe. I recommend it highly.
Overall, I’d rate my experience a B+. The bread was the clear stand-out item of the meal. The entrees were tasty but overpriced and overworked. The wait staff was pleasant but appeared to be stretched thin. Our meal was 2 days before Christmas so I’ll give them the benefit of the shout they perhaps many of their servers were our out town for the holidays.
SF is a brutally competitive space for restaurants and besides the bread, I don’t think I’d go back.
Great food served by knowledgeable servers within a pleasingly restored industrial environment.
Food was bland. Bread was amazing though.
Eaten here many times - consistently the most unsavory part is inevitably the front of the house/hostess. Despite making a reservation and there being open tables available, for some reason they seem to feel a customer should wait - nearly 20 minutes on this occasion. Pure garbage. An indication to me that they not only don't care about their customers, but feel that they are above them.
Delicious food! Great service and cocktails! Must get dessert!!
Service was fine. Food was nothing special, beans and duck was very light on the duck, crab tagliatelle was very salty.
we had a great meal with seasonal ingredients and fantastic service.
Great, delicious food, calming atmosphere, perfect service.
Cold pasta with raw egg & crab on top
Very slow service
When brought food, dropped and walked away silent
Did not bring main course plate
This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. The food is remarkably good at reasonable prices, menu is very innovative, smart friendly wait staff, just all around a great place with a contemporary vibe. I've been here maybe half a dozen times and never been disappointed.
Dinner at Tartine is always delicious from start to finish. We love ordering family style so we can try lots of dishes.
Friend in town
Unapologetically slow and surprisingly not that delicious!
I have been going to the Tartine bakery for so many years that I had nothing but high expectations for the restaurant, which I only finally just tried. I was so disappointed. The food choices are so strange it makes you wonder if it's just pretentious (that said, the raw sea bass was quite delicious). The portions are small for the high prices. What bothered me the most, though, was that we had told our server that we didn't have a lot of time, and we repeatedly had to search to find her to ask for delayed food, then a dessert menu, then the check. Why was she so hard to find? And their slow pace was 100% unapologetic, even after we had said we had to get going (our reservation was at 8:00 and this was after 10:00pm!)
Birthday dinner for my daughter. It was a different experienced foods.
Service was slow. Food was okay nothing really wowed me
This was my second supper at Tartine Manufactory and it was not nearly as wonderful as my first. One of the outstanding delights on my first visit was the bread which came in small loaf direct from the oven. It was fantastic and we ordered two smears two accompany it which were delicious. On my second visit the bread was cold and pre-sliced and the only smear available was whipped pumpkin humus, which was only ok.
The entrees were interesting but not exceptional. Service was poor, our waiter would tell us he would take care of a simple request right-away, but it would take several reminders and 1/2 hour wait. We really enjoyed our desserts-- Opera Cake and Ice Cream.
Went here for a Friday dinner because they have been here for some time but we never seemed to make it for dinner. Seated quickly but went down hill from there. Server arrived with menus. And then crickets for 40 minutes. No water, no bread, nobody for 40 minutes. We decided to see how long it would take for them to serve us as it was that bad. Server finally came and apologized but it seems this is just poor restaurant management as the server seemed to have half of the tables.
Food, when it finally arrived was good, not great, not impressive enough to take so long. Unfortunately this seems like a restaurant that is living on its reputation for something it used to have, or living on its breakfast/ brunch service.
It’s not worth wasting your time going here for dinner there are too many other places that have good food and actually know how to provide adequate service.
Still seems like they are figuring things out. Some of the dishes were a bit like high-end taqueria flavors. Not sure if that’s a bad thing but that’s what I remember.
Sad there are no baked goods at dinner time.
Great ambiance. Celery soup, salad, bread, and drinks were fantastic — the entree not so much. The chicken was just okay and the side pilaf was not tasty, cold, and extremely underwhelming, especially given the price. They were inflexible about switching sides from another dish, so no way to avoid the disappointing pilaf. This would have been a mediocre dish at half the price.
