Tavern at the Sun Inn
Taverns were a center of daily life in colonial times. They were the local, social and political hubs that spawned the thinking that led to the American Revolution. Tavern at the Sun Inn continues in this tradition offering a Colonial-inspired Seasonal food and beverage menu in a truly unique gathering spot.
Tavern’s culinary team is led by Billy Gruenewald. He offers a casual tavern-style menu that changes to match what is seasonally available and features some ingredients that would have been available to Bethlehem’s founders. Dinner is served on the Sun Inn’s second floor and light fare and drinks outdoors on the beautiful North Green when the weather permits. Outdoor seating is first come first serve.

Delicious food! Unique setting.
Love it there!
Wonderful night at Tavern @ The Sun Inn! Scotty, our server, was fantastic. He made great suggestions & the food did not disappoint! We can't wait to go back!
Took advantage of eating outside and enjoying the music. Fantastic service from Scotty! Efficient outdoor dining operation.
Wonderful feel .... great outdoor environment. Staff amazing ... from greeting to serving. Highest quality at very reasonable prices. Wine very good for great prices. And I am a former winemaker and wine lover.
Overall: Wonderful!!
If you want to dine outside without the passersby crowd, try this location.
They only serve pre-batched liquor drinks on the patios with a very modified dinner menu I was not impressed....
Outdoor seating is in the adjoining courtyard. The weather was perfect when we were there. Nice casual menu choices. Very accommodating waitstaff.
Had to wait outside, some people left the line to go elsewhere. Menu was tiny, had to ask for silverware, had to ask for a napkin, and the prices were high
We were only allowed to sit outside which was disappointing because we had come for the history of the place. There were so many arbitrary rules by the Pennsylvania Governor that were strictly enforced that it did not make for a relaxing evening. The lobster roll was very good.
food was okay - had lobster roll - drinks were all ice - server was anxious to leave -
Tavern has done a great job accommodating for the Pandemic. We have always enjoyed our dinners at the Tavern before and during Covid-19
Wonderful experience. Lovely courtyard to dine in . Tables were placed perfectly
Amazing as always!
Great place to eat in Bethlehem. Fine outdoor seating with shade. Enjoyable
We went during the Corona restrictions, so obviously it was not crowded. The staff did a great job caring for us despite the masks and the need to be aware of distancing, etc. The menu is not expansive, but there was still plenty of good choices. Everything we ordered was fresh and tasty. We were not rushed but were still served in a timely and friendly manner. We sat outside on the patio, which is right on Main St., yet it was quiet and very relaxing.
Great outdoor experience. For and service excellent.
Great atmosphere, good service, food not very good, not at the standards of other restaurants in the area. Price was good.
Very special to done I such a historic location.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Great experience. Shrimp cocktail Appetizer was a bit light but the main course was delicious.
I was a little worried after I made the reservations because I was not sure what to expect. Well that was silly. The place is historical and you get that feel throughout. The service was as good as it gets. We eat out a lot and this was top 3 service. Our waitress could not have done better. The food was delicious. I highly recommend a visit here. We had the Schnitzel, The Filet, The Goundie soup among other things. All very good with good portion size and we left stuffed.
Valentines dinner. Prefix prices were incredibly fair. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was warm and traditional
Valentine’s Day
Great atmosphere. Good apps. New menu was introduced when we were there so maybe the kitchen was having trouble with the new menu items. Our entrees, pork schnitzel ( not even close to what schnitzel should be) and chicken Madeira ( flavorless mushroom sauce) were glorified diner food. We’ll try it again for lunch or flatbreads, but no more dinner entrees. Many better options for the $$$.
We came for restaurant week. I like their menu choices for the value. I went with the Pork Schnitzel which was excellent. I felt for the price we had decent size portions. I would recommend this restaurant to family and friends.
As always just the best. We come all the time. My favorite is the French onion soup.
Another great item from the restaurant week menu. The usual friendly and welcoming service is always a bonus to the dining experience at the Tavern at Sun Inn.
Fantastic service. Food was underwhelming.
Historical house. Bathrooms are in basement. They do have an elevator.
The food was cold
had to order off restaurant week menu
Shrimp were small and rubbery
Soup was good but not hot
Dessert was good
Service was good courses came out too quick
Wanted to add 2 people on reservation 3 days before was told no but there was plenty of empty tables
You can’t beat the ambiance of an 18th-century inn where you can eat in the same rooms where George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and other Founding Fathers once sat. The dining rooms are a bit crowded and the noise level is a bit above what I expected. Cocktails were just so-so. Food was good, although the courses seemed rushed. An enjoyable, if not memorable dining experience.
The restaurant week menu looks great. I will have to go back again this week to try another dish. Service is always warm and friendly.
New Year's Eve dinner. Good value.
Happy New Year - see you soon again.

We ate at Tavern at the Sun Inn for New Year's Eve. They had a prix-fixe menu with four different courses. For $40.00, the value was excellent especially compared to other restaurants nearby. Our service was a little slow in the beginning and end of the meal, but in between, it was excellent with each course coming out perfectly timed. For food, we each had French Onion soup which was delicious. For our next course, my husband had the shrimp cocktail and I had the butternut squash bruschetta. The portions were small, but was to be expected and both very very tasty. Our main meal we both had the NY Strip steak which we asked for medium. The steak was delicious and cooked to our liking (which we were both pleasantly surprised at because mass cooking in a prix-fixe situation usually doesn't go well). We got our last course, dessert, to go and when we ate it later that night, it was divine. The flourless chocolate cake was so delicious. Overall, the food and service were top-notch especially for New Year's Eve. We've already looked at the regular menu and will be back!
Went for my husband’s birthday dinner on New Year’s Eve. Everything about the place is nice and everything was plated very nicely, however two of the four Entrées were strip steaks. Unfortunately they were very tough and full of gristle. My husband ate very little of it and did not bother to have it wrapped. Shortly before, some type of manager came around and asked how our meals were, and I said that they were fine, but then right afterwards I noticed my husband not eating his meal - I guess he didn’t want to make a fuss. My son also ordered the strip steak and did the best he could to eat the parts that were chewable. My daughter and I had the fillet medallions which were good except instead of medium they were more of the medium rare temperature, so I took the rest home so that I could reheat it and cook it a little more.
The maple chipotle wings (6 in an order) and the homemade bread (4 pieces for $2) are excellent. The rest of the meal was okay - dry, charred pork chops, decent steak. They serve large portions. Servers were nice, especially the bartender (Grace?) in the downstairs bar. The dining area was very loud - I think this is an acoustics issue that can't be helped, so be prepared to miss half your conversation. The Inn is a charming place, so worth stopping by there if you're visiting from out of town.
Outstanding! Food and drinks were great and the staff was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back on our next visit
Great food and nice ambiance.
The restaurant was very accommodating of the two young children in our party. Service was excellent and food was very good. The historical vibes make for a unique ambiance.
