Serves fresh, bold and innovative food that reflects the history of New Bedford and celebrates the New Bedford fishermen, their catch and their culture.

Menu focuses on local fishermen’s catch of the day, old school seafood favorites and a sprinkling of modern seafood interpretations. Menu ranges from raw bar, to warm and cold lobster rolls, baked cod, bacon wrapped scallops, bouillabaisse and grilled NY Strip.

Large bar and spectacular views of the artful New Bedford Fishing Fleet. Large covered outside deck overlooking the fishing boats and harbor. Centrally located beside the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Ferries. Large parking lot.

And, of course, the hospitality is second to none. Service is what built the business.

Food was delicious. Waitress was amazing. Her name was Rebecca. It was our anniversary. Dessert was delicious and on the house. Thanks again for the amazing anniversary dinner.

We had a nice view of the harbor, for our dinner. Our waiter was very pleasant, and started us off with a snack, while we went through the menu. All items that we chose were delicious, and the pricing was a good value for the presentation and portion size. I wish we were closer, and could come here more often. There were so many wonderful seafood choices, celebrating this lovely part of Massachusetts!

Kelvin is by far the best.. I have been going to The Black Whale a very long time and must say in all these years Kelvin is great, they didn’t notice us for a while after we were seated, the table that arrived after us received service before us which we thought was going to be a bad experience but NOPE,hoping on our next visit we will request Kelvin in hopes he will be available

Wow! What an incredible experience! Headed to the Black Whale this past Friday evening. Multiple friends have highly recommended it for some time now and this was our first visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the nicest man. He was so welcoming and accommodating, seating us at a beautiful table near a window looking out over the fishing boats. Then, a lovely young lady, Naira, introduced herself as our server. From the moment she said hello we felt her kindness, her gentle, genuine way and her professionalism. We lucked out with her! Who she is, truly made our night so special. The BW is incredibly fortunate to have her facing their customers every day - representing the organization! THANK YOU Naira! The cocktails, wine, and food, all absolutely delicious! There was not one disappointment in our evening! It is no wonder so many friends love this restaurant! And as we ended a most wonderful visit, we ended up chatting with the gentleman who originally seated us and realized he is Rand, the BW’s GM!! Wow, it’s so obvious customer care starts at the top! Thank you, Rand for just a beautiful place to get away, relax, feel so welcome, eat incredible food and drink absolutely delicious cocktails! In an environment and a location at the second to none! We absolutely cannot wait to come back!
