   We love Thai food and have a round trip of 30 miles to this pub. We have been many times and seen the prices more than double at lunchtime over some 15 years. This is the first time we have been disappointed. My wife’s chicken green curry had very little chicken in the curry and not worth anything like £16.95. It was pointed out and the response was “I will tell the chef”. I hope the chef takes heed and doesn’t short change customers in future.

   The food was so delicious! We had a group of 10 of us and everyone really enjoyed their food. The service was great and lovely, helpful staff. They even did the birthday candles, carried it through and sang with us. Would definitely recommend, and we are all looking for another excuse to go back. Thanks :)

   It was good to return to the "Blackie Ox", which we used many times when we lived relatively nearby; we were never disappointed. The extensive menu, comprising mainly Thai dishes but with some "traditional" pub options, hadn't changed but service has improved - we were waited on at table instead of having to order at the bar - and didn't have long to wait. This may have been due to the surprisingly low numbers for a Sunday - the barman suggested that people are keeping a wary eye on their bank accounts right now and eating at home more. Fair enough, but with all main courses under £20 you can hardly call the place expensive. The food was just as good as we remembered, with sensible portion sizes. Why not a five star view? Two reasons, nothing to do with the actual food. I'm fussy about music and wish that something could be piped over the PA other than the same old same old lowest-common-denomiator pop. There are many different kinds of music, you know, and it doesn't have to be vocal - there's lounge jazz, ambient, film scores... There doesn't - radical suggestion - have to be any. My wife is confined to a wheelchair. Full marks to the staff for finding us a table on a level with the rear entrance, no steps to negotiate. However there is no wheelchair-accessible toilet and the ladies is round a corner too tight for a wheelchair to cope with. Tricky. A smaller, related point: the entrance door opens outwards and can't pinned back; so wheelchair drivers have to reverse towards the door, pull it open, then keep it back hard against the wall with an elbow to allow sufficient width to get the chair through, while still pulling it inside. It can be done, but it could be made easier. All that said, there's nowhere else we know like the Blackie Ox, and it's likely we'll be back.
