About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Great for live music
  • Good for groups
The Bleeding Horse is a historically significant public house located in Upper Camden Street, Dublin, Ireland. It dates at least back to the 17th century, and was located on St. Kevin’s Port (now Camden St.) at the junction of two important highways leading out of the city.
On one side was Charlotte St., leading to Ranelagh and Donnybrook; on the other side was Old Camden St., which joined Richmond St. and led to Rathmines and Cullenswood. Both of these old streets disappeared during the renovations in the 1990s. The present building dates from 1871; the interior was renovated in 1992.
There are (at least) two explanations for the name. One is that when a horse got the “staggers” it was bled by a farrier at the inn. Another is that the name of the pub comes from an incident during the Battle of Rathmines in 1649, when a wounded horse fled from the battle.

Took my friend for first trip to a pub for dinner. Being a Saturday night it was busy but drinks and food delivered fairly quickly. Had a great time.

A fantastic experience from start to finish. Barbara initially took care of me and took me through the options for my 50th birthday party. We went through food and spaces and she was so lovely. On the night itself I was looked after by Noel and Anto and I couldn’t have asked for a better team of servers too. My birthday was brilliant, as was the food and service! Thanks so much everyone 🫶🏼

Lovely place for a group drink, we were given a big table in a room on the other side of the main bar, with access to the bar within a meter, was basically like having a function room while enjoying the lovely live music being played :)

We ate there twice. Some food came out quick while others in our party had to wait a very long time. So loud we couldn’t hear each other nor could servers hear us. Food average in taste but expensive.

I recently dined at The Bleeding Horse with a group of seven. Despite booking a table in advance, we were seated at a small table for four in a very cramped area, with another group of two guests seated awkwardly beside us. Throughout the meal, the waiter repeatedly treated us as a group of nine rather than seven, which led to confusion with our orders. We had to ask multiple times for drinks, and one person’s food order was completely missed. Initially, we were told that the kitchen was extremely busy and under pressure. However, while the rest of our group had received and finished their meals, one member of our party was still waiting for theirs. When we raised our concerns, the waiter responded by saying, “I don’t care, the money doesn’t go into my pocket.” This was an incredibly unprofessional response and only added to our frustration. We later discovered that the missing meal had never been written down in the first place, despite being ordered. After some time, the manager stepped in and was absolutely lovely. He listened to our concerns, took responsibility for the situation, ensured the missing dish was expedited, and genuinely made us feel valued as customers. His professionalism and attitude were the highlight of an otherwise disappointing experience. The food itself was delicious once it arrived, but unfortunately the poor service and lack of communication significantly disrupted our evening. There is clearly potential here, but improvements in staff training, communication, and customer service are needed. Sadly, based on this experience, the standard of service we received was far below what should be expected.

The staff were great here. They accommodated us at short notice on a busy Friday night. We got the platter for two which was generous and we were unable to eat it all. Ambience was top notch and live music very good. We would definitely recommend.

Authentic pub in Dublin a appreciate the history - the slanted floors the multiple stairwells, the crooked/wobbly chair - it was all part of the character of the place. Staff was very accommodating and helpful to get us served between 2 different wait staff. Cl an restrooms too - which is always appreciated. Live music and great energy.
