About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Dog-friendly
  • Good for special occasions
A Historical Coaching Inn with Traditional bar and a formal dining room; both with its own character.

We serve a great selection of pub classics, using as much produce from the nearby Ripley Castle Estate & Gardens as possible. Our chefs are constantly inspired to create special dishes to take advantage of the 2000 acre Estate and extensive Walled gardens produce.

We serve a selection of popular local real ales and have guest beers on a regular basis including some rare gems, so there is always a reason to pop into the bar.

There is a well structured and varied wine list suitable for all levels of wine drinker from affordable afternoon drinking through to more powerful and exquisite wines, which can be matched to our dishes to create a full dining experience.

We cater for any number of guests from couples to larger parties, families and dog friendly tables in the bar.

Please note we are unable to reserve tables outdoors.

We chose the Boars Head to sample the ploughman’s platter which we always have to be told it was no longer available and couldn’t be made even though all the ingredients for it were still on the menu. The waitress took our order for soup and failed to mention that there was soup included with the sandwichesconsequently we were all served with two soups! She doubled the chips ordered and the drinks order was wrong. We had no cutlery or napkins and the food was average. Not a very enjoyable visit
