The Cork & Bottle - Leicester Square
Don’s reputation allowed some of the best growers to invite him in and give him access to some of the world’s most treasured wines – the type of wines that usually only find their way to a few lucky locals.
Cork & Bottle is now run by Will Clayton with just the same philosophies, all under Don’s auspicious eye. An iconic venue for wine lovers around the world, whether you’ve come to our website to indulge yourself, book a table, choose a present for a loved one or select a corporate gift, we’re delighted that you share our passion for great wine.
Don & Will
C&B is an institution that does its job very well - good wine and decent food. Bursting with character and in a prime location to service the West End.
It can get rather busy, and booking at peak times is essential.
The staff are charming and do their best to make it an enjoyable experience.
I used to go to the Cork and Bottle in my 30 to 40 years ago, so nice to see it still going strong.
The legendary ham and cheese pie. So simple, so reliable, so delicious.
Outstanding in all respects. Have been coming for over 20 years whenever the opportunity presents itself and I’m never disappointed. Fantastic food, amazing wine and still the same lovely relaxed vibe I’ve loved since my first visit in 1992!
Very cool spot; spiral staircase into vino heaven. Friendly waitstaff and bartenders; awesome food.
Fabulous as ever, a hidden piece of Paris under the turmoil and chaos of Leicester Square, a fantastic menu, superb wine, wonderful service, a real delight and experience in every way, could never recommend highly enough, an absolute favourite.
Great location for the theatre. Exceptional service and excellent food and wine. Glad we had a table for 4 for the two of us as tables very close together.
Always excellent-food , service and ambience. Fabulous place.
Food good, atmosphere good although very noisy and service is swift. Have been here many times and find it is consistent in quality of food, wine and service.
Good as ever - I’m a regular. But this was actually the first time I’ve tried the famous ham & cheese pie, and I could see what the fuss was about. The advantage of this dish is it will match many different wines both white & red - in this case a splendid Purgatorio 2015 from Torres.
Always a buzzy atmosphere, great food and great service. Such a gem hiding away behind a tiny frontage below ground level in central London. Well worth a visit.
Usually love this place, but on this occasion it really wasn't good enough. My friend and I arrived on time for our booking and were hastily shoved aside to the bar with no mention of how long we'd have to wait. There was no room to sit, so we stood with all our bags, being jostled by anyone walking past. After 40 minutes of waiting and being ignored each time we tried to catch a servers eye, I asked whether we should leave and eat elsewhere, and we were finally seated.
The rest of the meal was lovely as usual, but no acknowledgement of the unacceptably long wait. I would have expected the service charge to be removed at the very least, or a complimentary drink or dessert, but we were offered nothing.
This was such a stressful experience, instead of the treat it was supposed to be at the end of a long working day. This used to be our go-to option, but this experience has definitely left a bad taste.
When we first walked in it looked so nice, we were very impressed.
After standing there for 10 minutes waiting for someone to take our booking we decided to find our own table! When the waitress finally came over she was very short with us (borderline rude).
The food was nice, I had the shepherd's pie. It didn't come with any gravy and I would've asked the waitress for some but she didn't once come to our table to ask if we were ok and it seemed impossible to get her to come over. She just kept saying "give me a minute".
Overall we would have enjoyed it if the waitress had been welcoming!
It was great! Haven’t been here for years and nothing has changed - it’s still as good as ever!
Great atmosphere. Great service. Food was special but not too different. The c&b mess was arguably a coffee ice cream sundae but I forgive them....just.
Really enjoyed this for a drink after work, would not think you are in central London! Lovely atmosphere, a bit pricey but a great range of wines and cheeses so worth it!
I would recommend, but let's try and keep it a secret too
This is our 3rd visit to the Cork & Bottle and it never disappoints. The service was great, our hostess very helpful and happy for us to take our time ordering and left us plenary of time between course even though the restaurant was so very busy. The food selection was amazing making our choices difficult, it was all superb. Looking forward to our next visit just a shame we live so far away!
This is a little gem hidden in the middle of prime tourist London.
I've been to London hundreds of times and walked past this place many times and never noticed it.
After reading reviews online my wife and I visited after a trip to London and were so pleased we did. Great atmosphere and would never know we were feet away from Leicester Square and the hoards of people.
Service was great all evening and the food was top class and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back
very good value, great food/ wineif you are going on datetrytobookalcove you will thank me later ,
Love it, in the busiest place is a intimate wonder! Great vibe and great wine
We’ve been coming here for over 40 years and lately we’ve been coming more for the ambience and wine list and less and less for the food.
This is one of my favourite spots in London and I actually don't want anyone else to know about it--it's popular enough as it is.
After more than twenty years of coming here it never fails to impress. This time we chose to spend our new year, excellent wine selection...lovely food and the best service in town. An all time favourite. Thank you
I always have a great time here - fabulous food, wonderful wine, super staff. Staff are attentive but patient when we’re talking too much to choose. Even when it’s lively you can still have a conversation. I think I’ve been coming here for around 25 years and haven’t tired of it.
Let's admit it: the Cork and Bottle's changed since Don Hewitson ran the place himself. It's slicker and more consistent but there's a loss of some of it's eccentric charm relative to the old days. My friend chose Shepherd's Pie and I had Calve's Liver which I thought particularly excellent. Following a glass each of delicious Yalumba Riesling we shared a very good bottle of Chiroubles. I had a Cheese course (Vacherin Mont D'Or in very good condition) and a glass of Malmsey whilst my friend enjoyed Apple Tart Tatin. I would have liked it less noisy but it wasn't a great hardship.
First time here and was not disappointed. Nestled right in the west end this cozy basement is in stark contrast to the usual tourist driven restaurants nearby. Great French bistro food with a huge and high quality wine list. Slow cooked ox cheeks with mash is sublime. Grilled octopus starter is also fantastic. Highly recommend.
Was a great Christmas eve like always. Thank you!!
Took 1.5 hours to get food.
I have been to Leicester Square so many times and never noticed this place. It was great! Perfect atmosphere, great wine and great food!!
Was great for a christmas catch up with an old friend. As expected excellent wine selection
Top people, Top job, we all really enjoy the night can not wait to come back . 😃🍷🍸🍾 merry Christmas to you all see you in the new year 👌
We had a great time! Wine and food were delicious, service wonderful! A lovely little retreat for busy LSQ!!
A last minute booking after several previous visits. Great experience as always , enhanced by the party atmosphere pre- Christmas!
Excellent food, ambience and service. Exciting wine lust
Disappointed this visit. Wife chose a light bite of scallops with a crumb coating on a bed of leeks, think it was £9.50 for two tiny, lukewarm scallops and a bit of leek/sauce - wasn't expecting a huge portion but crikey this was a poor effort!! I had the cheese and ham pie which was good but portion size has definitely decreased since last visit 18 months ago. Also it wasn't on the menu, had to ask if it was available! Bar was full of people having fun and chatting which was a great atmosphere but what we didn't like was the guy and his girlfriend sitting at the bar snogging the faces off each other while people were eating! The guy was absolutely trolled too, he could hardly stand! I know this is a wine bar in the middle of London but £30 for a bottle of wine to go with our "snack" is a rip off. Shame really, won't bother visiting again.
Very pleasantly surprised as at first glance it doesn't have the frontage as you may expect . However we we were very happy with the meal and the staff. Will go again for sure!!
Very good .........,......,,,,,............................,
Generally very good with excellent food and wine, and ambience
Always great. Our waitress, Faye was especially worth a vote of thanks.
