The Ox Barn is a 56-seater destination restaurant under the direction of Head Chef, Charlie Hibbert. Rooted in a passion for the local land, food and entertaining, the carefully curated menus are farm-based and plant-inspired. His team and the gardeners at Thyme work together to select and grow the fruits, vegetables and herbs used to create his Modern British Countryside fare.

The nineteenth century former oxen house is the newest addition to the family of meticulously restored farm buildings. A state-of-the-art piece of agricultural architecture at its conception, Caryn Hibbert worked meticulously to preserve the soaring archways and original Cotswold stone rubble walls, to now house a modern, dining destination - including a contemporary bar and seven and a half metre Charvet open kitchen - to allow for an authentic, heritage-rich dining experience, enabled by today’s best culinary technologies.

    James, who served us, was great throughout, very friendly and helpful. My wife's choices (truffle with pasta followed by brilliant Brill) were excellent, mine weren't quite as successful (peach with thin slivers of pig cheek etc followed by lamb) but overall it could simply be wrong choices by me from the relatively limited menu of 5 for each course. Having said all that, we will return as it was a special place and maybe next time will be for lunch and a wander around the 150 acre gardens!

    A pleasant restaurant in a beautiful setting. I don't feel a burning urge to return... The food was good but certainly a little overpriced, as was the wine. We visited on a Friday lunchtime and it was almost empty, however it still had a lovely ambience. The decor, lighting and music were all well considered. Count on a £100+ per head for lunch.

    Food ok, but nothing special. Ordered the chicken for the main course, got half a chicken. Half of an entire chicken. An insane amount of food for one person and I noticed the couple on the next table, who both ordered the chicken, had the same reaction. The staff were really nice, but it felt like an off-day for the kitchen.

    This was our fourth or fifth trip here for lunch and I am afraid it will probably be our last. There was just a lack of any care, which is a shame as it is a lovely space. Despite a half full restaurant it was almost impossible to get staff's attention as they gossiped by the stand. My son's dish arrived when he had no cutlery. My daughter's sausages were different colours - one pink the other looked cooked we were told it was the type of meat, which really didn't ring true. We waited an hour for our mains to arrive (thankfully we had ordered starters). It was just all a bit slap dash and our unsmiling waitress didn't help.

    Location & building is extremely striking and a walk around the ground pre-meal makes for a very special evening. Food was really good too - portions were sizeable & tasty. Everything’s grown on the premises, which is a nice touch. James, the waiter for the evening, was extremely friendly and helpful - he really put a lot of effort into helping my girlfriend’s birthday feel really special. Would recommend and go again!

    We are new to the area and this was our first visit to Thyme. We have just completed on our home in Fairford and it was our 39th wedding anniversary, so a special evening was intended and we were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted on arrival and taken through to the Baa Bar where we preceded dinner with an amazing Tomato Martini and Botanical Oxymel Tonic from the September selection. The new Ox Barn menu selection left us spoilt for choice as we enjoyed roasted grape, ricotta and walnut crustini with roast tomato and basil toast. The combination of fresh and balanced flavours explode on our palette through every course of the evening and our attentive and passionate waiter James adds to the overall gastronomic delights and enjoyment of the whole evening. Each dish is beautifully crafted and presented with indigenous and organic ingredients that are as much a delight to the eye as then on the palette. Delicate and fresh courgette with pecorino and honey, and broad bean with baby gem starters are followed by the freshest of cod loin with samphire potatoes and succulent and tender bavette steak with amazing horseradish slaw, shared with a side of perfection buttered greens. Greengage meringue and roasted peach with fig ice cream complimented our mains to be concluded with a selection of artisan cheeses with crab apple jelly. Thyme is formal without being starchy and casual without being sloppy. The culinary delights are amazing as with Charlie Hibbert and his team behind the scenes as well as those who looked after us. We encountered a menu we would love to explore further and are very fortunate to now be local to savour their seasonal creativity.

    Delicious food, you can really feel and taste the care and attention that has gone into the dishes and their ingredients. This attention to detail is also evident in the environment, interior design, ambience and service. We visited a few years ago and were equally impressed. The quality of the food and service hasn't slipped at all – which seems hard to come by these days.

    We chose the Ox Barn at Thyme for a meal to celebrate my partners birthday and were not disappointed: the food was very fine, it was a truly memorable meal, the wine was also excellent. The service was friendly and welcoming and it is a magnificent venue with the most beautiful garden. We would very much hope to visit again if the opportunity arises.

    Having never been to Thyme before we didn't know what to expect other than the reviews. We were all delighted, it is a beautiful place in a beautiful location. we all really enjoyed our lunch although two of our party like espresso and there are no mini espresso cups so it had to be improvised with shot glasses which seemed strange! The staff were all friendly and helpful however. We would definitely go again preferably when it isn't raining because the gardens are fabulous!

    Such a beautiful place! Gorgeous fresh food, all prepared in sight and delivered by a warm, friendly staff. We had a wonderful family celebration and were extremely well looked after. Drinks in the Baah afterwards - lovely ambience finished off a perfect night. We will definitely be back.

    The food was excellent in every respect. It’s seldom we eat out and enjoy every part of the meal. Well done to the chef and kitchen staff. We would especially like to compliment Elena for her exemplary service. Elena is a real asset to The Ox Barn.
